MLB 2K7 is going, going, gone gold

On Friday, 2K Sports announced that upcoming sports game MLB 2K7 has officially gone gold. In their press release, they also confirm the February 27th release date that we reported on earlier. Now discs can be pressed, no more bugs can be fixed, and those signature style animations cannot be tweaked, because baseball is upon us. We know this game has potential, but is anyone buying MLB 2K7 guaranteed? Though, if you're a MLB baseball fan you don't have much of a choice.

1. As long as they reduce the online ranked games from 9 to 5 innings I will be somewhat satisfied but nothing can ever beat MVP 2005!!

2. Yeah. I have no choice as no other XBOX360 Game is coming out. Its a gamble though because of the failed 2k6 release. It looks promising, although no DEMO in sight.

3. What the hell does going Gold mean?

You'd think they would explain these things!

4. I wanted to buy it based on what I'd seen, but then I watched a video with the play-by-play. I don't think I can stand having to listen to Joe Morgan prattle on while I play. He's got to be the single most annoying announcer I've ever heard.

5. going gold means the game is finished and has been reproduced on a master disc, which is usually gold. they then make copies of the master disc for distribution.

6. I will be there on release day for this game. My most anticipated for a long time now.

7. This game looks so good that I pissed lawnmowers. I'm getting a 360 in March, and this will be the first game I own.

Posted at 1:58PM on Feb 25th 2007 by mgroves

8. How many bugs did they leave in the game in order to compete with The Show?

Based on how bad 2k6 was, I won't buy this unless it averages over 85%.

9. It's awesome how the game costs $60 for 360 and only $30 for xbox

Posted at 3:03PM on Feb 25th 2007 by jeff

10. except that the game is not coming out on regular xbox. not to my knowledge atleast.

11. it is coming out on xbox. the official site says so

12. Joe Morgan? Ugh. Pass on that factor alone.

13. I agree, MVP 2005 was one of the greatest games ever. I'm going to give this game a shot, but the preview that IGN gave it was beyond ridiculous. Half the review was about how great the players looked. They spent about 1 paragraph on the actual gameplay. Did they implement online leagues? What about fantasy baseball franchise mode?

I completely passed on last year's version. It was a difficult decision but I'm glad I did since I heard the game blew. My only hope is that since the developer from MVP 2005 came over, it might have a chance.

14. I gave 2K6 a pass as well, as I didn't want to reward 2K with my money for making a mediocre baseball game. This game has gotten pretty good reviews from what I've seen so far, and I'm planning on picking it up this week as I'm a HUGE baseball fan. (Go Cardinals!) It sounds like they fixed a lot of the fielding issues that supposedly made last year's iteration no fun, and the whole thing has gotten a visual upgrade b/c it was made primarily for the 360 and PS3.

MVP 2005 is still the gold standard of licensed baseball games for me, but MLB 2K4 wasn't horrible. This one certainly looks to be all right.

15. thanks jeff. good to know.

16. Give me John Miller, but please no Joe Morgan.

17. I'm gonna pass on this one and step down a level and get the Show for PS2. 2K6 was a terrible followup to an outstanding 2K5. It was so horrible that I decided to give the Show '06 a try and I fell in love with it.

I used to love 2K Sports games across the board, but now all I like is the NBA series. Very much looking forward to All Pro Football though.

18. The first review gives it a 8.5/10.

19. i think everyone's opinions are the same. we are all skeptical about this game due to last year's disaster.

i will give 2K one more shot, sixty more dollars of my hard earned money...but if they screw me over one more time...i wouldn't care if they cloned major league players and put them in a small box to control i will never play a 2K Sports game again.

However, i am hopeful that this developer from the the MVP 05 Game has improved it enough to be bearable.

Two more days and we'll know... way or the other.

Posted at 3:03PM on Feb 25th 2007 by jeff"

No kidding. Know what's even more awesome? This game looks and plays like shit. The first thing I thought when playing the demo was that this is a third rate original Xbox game playing on a 360, and a shitty port at that. Shame on you Take-Two. This is garbage.
