Bungie Weekly Update hints at cool new "thing"

Last night, over at Bungie.net, Frankie posted his semi-famous Bungie Weekly Update. In this week's edition we learn that Halo 2's matchmaking will be revamped next month with Team Swat coming back in an un-ranked state. There are also a few tidbits of info surrounding how the alpha for Halo 3 is progressing, complete with a fully dotted "death map" for Snowbound. But the exciting news is that Frankie dropped a hint that a new feature or "thing" will be included (99% certain) in Halo 3. Frankie goes on to say, "the MLG boys will sweat blood with excitement. They will all still moan at me about how we nerfed the pistol from Halo One, but this new thing will at least cheer 'em up for a few months. Or years. It's that big". Why must you do that to us Frankie? Ok fanboys, time to put on your official speculation hats and get a speculating.

I don't understand why they do things like this. They promise something amazingly great that everyone will love, then everyone doesn't love it, and it seems like they over-promised and under-delivered.

Frankie should just say Halo 3 sucks worse than Halo 2 and when it doesn't, people won't rip them (as much).

Okay, i am sick of this crap. No one specualte a thing!(I mean that in every posible sense!)

Developers can't keep foind this. They wanna hype thier god damn game, give us something real. To show this, I propose a ban on specualting what this thing might be. Talk about Halo 3 as much as you want, just whatever you do, don't mention Frakie's thing!

...That'll show *im'...

*I figured that if 'em short for them then 'im is short for him. Which reminds me, how come them isn;t spelled M in leet?

Yeee well i kinda agree that a low-key approach would work better with hyping halo 3. The beta is coming soon so Frankie should just let the game speak for itself.

I absolutely love Halo but with this one Ima little worried that it wont deliver...

This "MLG will love it" crap worries me. Anything positive for MLG is a negative for me. All those guys care about is a game that involves no strategy and 1 weapon to see whos got the best aim. Talk about taking the fun out of games.

I was so happy when they nerfed the pistol in halo 2. I mean in halo 1, the pistol was more effecient then any gun in the game at close and long range, even the rocket launcher and sniper (unless you were EXTREMLY far away). It was rediculose. They might as well only made 1 weapon in the game.

I liked halo 2 much more on this sense. Then bungie changed all the game types to start you with a battle rifle. Bah. I prefer you having to pick up the battle riffle. use some strategy to get the good guns. People were complaing because once a team picked up battle riffles when you dont spawn with them, they were invincible. this could of been solved by having the BR be a limited weapon on maps (like the sniper rifle) instead of spawning 100 times.

I really hope halo 3 is as anti MLG as possible.

Actually, the default rifle has a chainsaw attachment and you can chainsaw people in half and tag the covenants with grenades by shoving it up their arse

Hey mike,

You have your anti-mlg game. It is called halo 2. Please don't play halo 3, so good people never have to sit through smg spawn for you.

It could be old news to some, but I believe this feature is the recording or gameplay playback feature. It makes sense because it would benefit MLG players because they could review their old games and build up strategies based on what happened during a match.

Also

"Let’s just say that it will make the folks at HighImpactHalo fill their drawers." This feature might also provide an easier way to film Machinima(sp?). Which would cause drawer filling. ha

If you still don't know what I'm talking about read the Halo 3 EGM.

Call me ignorant or whatever you will . . .

But as someone who has NEVER player a single game of any form of Halo ever, I would appreciate the clarification of Halo-centric terms. WTF is MLG?

I too am excited for Halo 3 (how can one not be with the mega-hype that Bungie is constantly shoving down our throats: the intense amount of hype from vehicles to particular weapons is definitely going overboard in the hype department I will add), but I suspect that, like most games which are a franchise, it won't expect that I have any previous knowledge of Halo to enjoy it. I would like my game blog to also understand this and stop expecting that I have lived and breathed Halo since it came out in order to fricking understand any post about Halo 3.

A little explanation and less presumption that because we are 360 owners = we cum for everything Halo isn't too much to ask is it?

OK, everyone is saying "NO SPECULATION" but to that I say nay.

"Let’s just say that it will make the folks at HighImpactHalo fill their drawers. And the MLG boys will sweat blood with excitement."

Think about it: both of those groups would want something related to camera and recording, and they've already announced the recording functions. I'm willing to bet it has something to do with that. HIH wants recording functions to show mods and glitches, MLG players want recordings of tournaments. It's elementary my dear Watson.

Yeah, the Halo 3 hype is getting very, very boring.

This whole pompous attitude Bungie have managed to gain is also getting very irritating. Your games really aren't that good, Bungie, and there are a lot of developers coming up with much better ideas and gameplay techniques.

Frankies always overhypes a lot. When Halo 2 was being developed, he was overhyping every single details of the game. Everything was great and perfect and fantastic and awesome. Then the game came out, and I really loved it, but it wasn't as big as I expected, specially on the campaign.

I won't read his weekly update anymore. I just want the game to come out, avoiding overhyping, waiting for the game to surprise me.

*sighs* I agree with Sherlock. it's probably something to do with the video recording properties. for those who think Frankie's over-hyping the situation, i'd be quiet because it can get a lot worse. as for those who don't know about Halo, I suggest you do what I did, and go and find out about Halo until you are content with your knowledge. The community won't dumb itself down nor should they for newcomers (that's not to say we won't help you, it's just to say that I don't believe that we'll hold your hand as you explore the Haloverse and that you should take some initiative with Google). Lastly, for those who complain about the BR in Halo 2, do what all the capable players did; convert (as I had to), practice and own with the BR. and stop whining; it's so childish.
