New Fable 2 feature to be revealed at GDC

GDC 07 (Game Developers Conference) is set to begin in March, and speakers are already being announced. Among these scheduled speakers is Peter Molyneux, the man behind Fable and its upcoming sequel, Fable 2. Molyneux will be at the conference to perform a lecture entitled, "Innovations in Fable 2." The lecture will discuss how elements from Fable have been changed and made better for Fable 2. Furthermore, Molyneux promises to reveal a new and "totally unexpected" feature in the game. What could it be? We have no idea, and after the amazing amount of hype built around the first Fable, perhaps its best if we don't get carried away.

Our readers (that's you), on the other hand, can get as carried away as they like. Do you have any ideas for a great new feature in Fable 2?

1. Please let it be a gun with a chainsaw on the end of it...

2. i second that motion..

was i the only person not impressed with fable 1 at all. i think i beat it in like 2.5 hours, any rpg that is shorter than GOW is pathetic

3. If you "beat" fable in 2.5 hours you wernt playing it.

I got caught up in the hype of fable and ended up kinda disappointed. It was still a great game. This time around though im going to be avoiding the hype as much as possible, maybe letting myself watch a trailer or two just before release but thats it.

4. Having what was promised in the original would be *great*
A really consistent world would be fantastic, for example, being able to buy stuff for your house etc., sometimes an item is in stock, sometimes it's not (it's not in stock after you've actually seen someone buy that item you're after) so you go and try and buy it from them (read: murder them in a dark alley when nothing but a chicken is watching...then you murder the chicken, needlessly). That, would be cool.

5. 1.Real time weather. Mainly day/night correspondance with your time zone. Obviously it can't be an exact match because it'd take you and your character x real years to level up.
2. Better aging. I bought Fable: Lost Chapters and my character became old way before I beat the game. Sacrificing to get 10 years off didn't help.
3. Live vision ala Rainbow Six. I can envision it now. A woman pirate with my scraggly goatee. Captain Jack Sparrow-head would be my second choice.
4. Ninjas. I know people are planning a pirate vs. ninja game with XNA but this would be side story more than the main design. I trust Mr. Molyneux will be able to tell me once and for all which is truly better.
5. A disembodied hand with which you can throw characters and NPCs around with. Grossly disproportionate pet optional.
6. Promote cannibalism. On a long journey in the desert with friends: The quest is complete if you're the last one standing.
7. Literally shredding people using the Guitar for Guitar Hero.
8. Use of the wheel to command pirate ships.
9. Yelling "yarr" into headset in a pirate's den results in a series of cascading yarrs from surrounding NPCs. Pirate songs enqueue drunken parades.
10. On Talk like a Pirate day, all in-game characters will use pirate-speak.
11. The re-introduction of bodily functions as a game mechanic. Molyneux could easily top MDK2 and Oddworld. If your character eats there has to be somewhere for it to go...
12. When you%27ve taken out all rival territory, someone will still manage to attack you trying to restore what's theirs. Ninjas never truly die though, so perhaps that's fitting.
13. The ability to have many generations continuing the legacy. If your character ages quickly at least you can have someone take his place. You could also cultivate an elite race of super ninjas using ancient modern DNA technology. Jurassic Park + 14th century Ninjas = Best game ever.

Regarding the shortness of Fable, I thought Lost Chapters to be pretty satisfying. It was roughly 20 hours and I did take my time. 40+ is ideal in an RPG with little to no replay value. I'm not expecting Oblivion size but I'd gladly take it.

6. I imagine either a touchscreen, 8GB of storage, Cingular EDGE compatibility, Wi-Fi, bluetooth, or a 2 megapixel camera...

7. I'm hoping for online co-op, seeing as the original was supposed to have it....i would take peters' apology better if he skipped split screen multi-player and went straight for online co-op. I think that should be added whether or not it's what they plan to reveal is a completely other story however.

8. Here's my great idea for Fable 2 -- finish and publish BC, dammit. BC was one of the games I bought the original XBox for, and then it just...vanished.

Damn you Peter Molyneux, I want to let the dinosaurs eat the oldlings in my tribe.

9. I've actually been discussing this a lot with friends lately. I've read information about how Peter Molyneux was discussing the idea of having children, and allowing them to take over for you when your character dies... but, they didn't know how to make it work.

What if you have children, or perhaps limit it to one child, and while raising the child, you could "play" with him and pass on your skills, magic, and exp to him through repeated play and training. That way, depending on how much you play and train with the child, when your character passes, you can start where you left off with your very young, yet equally strong child.

Also, the option to make differences in the world. Being able to build specific items, like bridges and buildings for cities that have been ransacked. Or, the ability to ransack the towns yourself, burning buildings and leaving ash.

I only played the original for about 3 hours... because i was disappointed with the lack of promised features. So, seeing more of the originally promised ones showing up would be good.

And, why, when you decide to live the evil side of the life, do you still have to fight the "enemies"? Shouldn't they be praising you or something? Or at least fighting alongside you, opposed to against you? I dunno... that always bothered me.

10. I'm betting it'll be face-mapping ability like RS: Vegas. What's better than creating an RPG character with nearly full customization than actually slapping your own mug on your avatar's digital melon?

11. LOL!!!! That might be the only way Fable 2 might work. But now, promise of new "totally unexpected" "innovations" just sounds like a story not founded on fact. ;-)

12. I can't wait for this game to come out, there are quite a few games that i am planning on buying. this is one of them.
I think that it might be an update on the fighting system...
