Watch Blue Dragon's opening sequence
We missed the Blue Dragon update last week, so this week we have two new videos for you. The first -- embedded above -- is Blue Dragon's playable opening sequence. It's very serene and poetic in that Howl's Moving Castle sort of way, though we're not sure how much we like the robotic voice that announces what you're doing. Hearing the digital female voice say "item" as you pick something up sort of pulls you out of the narrative. Still, the game is gorgeous. The second video -- embedded after the break -- showcases a shooting sequence, which takes place in (what else?) an airship. The shooting sequence is in real time, which might allay some of the fears of RPG fans that are more accustomed to KOTOR. Watch both videos and tell us what you think . (As always, high definition versions are available at the official Blue Dragon site.)
The Japanese release of Blue Dragon is only two days away. Any brave, Japanese reading souls planning on importing it?

Looks neat. I must admit, I have seen nothing of Blue Dragon before this, I'm impressed. I may have to actually play this when it comes state-side.

Looking very nice. I especially like the playable intro. I've been umming and ahhing about this for a while but will most probaly get it.
One thing, if this is the Japanese version why is the female voice in English?
One more thing, how do I comment without having to confirm them via email? I get a code (in the confirmation email) to use to bypass the confirmation in future but don't see anywhere to enter it in the comments section.

I am very pleased to see the action shots, I was under the impression that Blue Dragon was going to be more turn based. The opening video looks great. I will be curious to see the reviews in Japan.

I WANT THIS GAME! I haven't played a good RPG since "Skies of Arcadia" which Blue Dragon kinda looks like.

#2, the passcode you get can only be used on Engadget sites (Engadget, Engadget HD, Engadget Mobile), so far. I suppose Joystiq and family will have to upgrade the sites to support it. Still a pretty stupid system IMO, they should just have one central login for all Weblogs Inc. sites.

I so hope I get the time to play and complete this game... :)

Ahhh, I've been eyeing this game since it was announced. A J-RPG for the 360 that looks to set the bar high? Definitely a different path for this round of Microsoft's console.
The graphics, the gameplay, it all just seems like it's been implemented flawlessly, I especially love how battles aren't entirely random, they're predictable in that you can see an enemy on screen and avoid the battle in various ways. Sometimes I just don't WANT do deal with the Level-Grind, I just want to run and get X item that I forgot I got after my last save.
I'm an FPS fan at heart, but a good RPG always gets my blood a-flowin'.
