$100 Xbox 360 sold out in seconds

As part of Amazon's Customers Vote internet deals, the Xbox 360 Core package won the people's vote and the right to go on sale. So, this morning you could buy a core system for only $100! The big news is that once the time came to purchase a 360 for such a low, low price at Amazon.com, customers came away empty handed as this deal ended within' seconds! Only 1,000 Xbox 360 Core systems were available for this offer, so it's not all that surprising that a sellout occured, but fanboys have been reporting that 2-3 seconds after the offer became available they couldn't complete an order because the deal was already sold out. If you were lucky enough to get a Xbox 360 Core system for $100 then you get a gold star for today buddy ... if not, at least you tried and didn't have to stand outside for 6+ hours in the cold only to be disappointed.

[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

Haha, so I guess when I casually strolled over to the site at 3:45 p.m. EST I didn't have a bloody chance in hell ;)

i waited online about a half an hour before they went on sale. Right at 11 (2pm eastern), they were already sold out. A lot of people are crying foul, but I was just trying to get one to replace my broken one, not sell it on ebay. Oh well, I guess its back to the corner with me.

...Or... maybe it was going slow because there were probably 50,000-100,000 PEOPLE TRYING TO LOAD THE SAME PAGE AS YOU, all at the same time?

Just a thought.

i tried to get one but it took about 5 minutes for the screeen to refresh. But ended up getting the bike for $60. Not a bad deal. As a web developer i can understand how their web servers were overwhelmed.

Yet another Amazon cluster****. They are kind of making up for it with that $40 camera bundle, though. Too bad I already bought mine for $68... For me, personally, it locked 3 mins before and came up 7 mins after. Gee, I could have gotten the f'ing bike or a barbie doll...

You know, last week some pretty big marketing budgets were getting reported. Seem to remember the figured for the Xbox 360 being $944.9 Million. While I can see how commercials, kiosks, and even sponsored events might do some good, I have to ask how many Xbox 360 Cores they could have given away.

$944.9M divided by $300 is about 3.1 million consoles. And why wouldn't they do something like just give away a million Core systems? Because the retailers would be upset. Being they are publically traded companies, that would steal from their sales figures bigtime.

But, I would imagine that there is background monies changing hands for these kind of micro promotions that go badly, or sadly. The $100 off a premium 360 system is a joke. They should have done $200 off.

if amazon could sell xboxes at 100 bucks each, i wonder if there will be a pricedrop soon. i almost think it may have backfired on amazon because i (like most people) was pretty upset when the page took ten minutes to load, and although thats not amazons fault, im sure theres pleny of customers that felt this was unfair. Sure, they had 1000 happy customers, but what about the rest?

OMG. If 10,000+ people are refreshing and hitting "add to cart" at the same time, of course its gonna freeze up. Amazon.com did exactly what it wanted to do...it got all the fanboys on the hype train.

I mean, did most of you really think you were gonna get one? It was like a scrach off lottery ticket..someones gotta win, but it probably wont be you:P

Um.....it took so long to load because there were probably TENS of thousands of people that all hit refresh on that page at the same time. I dont think any website could perform as normal under those conditions. Are you really saying you dont want them to do big sales like this because they are TOO good any it may be too popular? Thats just stupid. Dont be mad at amazon....they offered a great deal, you just didnt get one.

I got one, logged into my account at 12:45PM CST, hit refresh at 12:59 CST and at 1PM CST it came right back up with the "get this deal" button and bam! grabbed it and relaxed for a couple of minutes. Paid for it and got the super savings discount and I was all set with a 360 core unit.

I just wanted one because I bought my parents a 1080p Samsung HDTV, their first, and wanted to give them the accompanying HDDVD drive so that they can watch movies in HD.
