DOOM is now available on Xbox Live Arcade ... well, go get it!
Update: Reader Dylan Copeland has brought to our attention that we promised to name drop whoever guessed the mystery XBLA game. Right you are, Dylan. Congrats to Ed for being the first to guess correctly that DOOM was the mystery game (and being the second comment on the post altogether). Honorable mention to Dylan Copeland for also guessing correctly and reminding us of our promise. And, by the way, the full game, as most of you know by now, is 800 points.

Playing it now. Looks and feels like the first Doom, just as it should. Nice that they mapped the mouselook to the right stick.
All we need is a sensitivity setting and we're all set.

Can someone confirm that there is 4-player co-op (not just deathmatch). Did I read that wrong?

My only complaint.
When this was first released, the WHOLE first episode was the free trial, not 1 level! I want more, and I've already paid for this!
Great port though, nice controls.
My wife is not happy though. First time round, I used to get so hyped-up playing it late at night that I used to thrash around in my sleep and smack her about!
BTW, someone said the graphics res had been up-graded. I see no evidence. Shame they didn't do something with the GL port.

Majikthise-
Are you playing on an SD or HD set that you see no graphical improvements?

@9
Got my 360 hooked up at 720p thru a projector.
Don't get me wrong, I love doom in all it's retro glory, I'd just heard it had been tweeked.
That said, it never ran this smooth on my old 486!

Majikthise, boot up a copy of the original flavor on your pc and compare, the graphics have been considerably upgraded. :) I mean it's still Doom, so we're still talking 2d sprites, simple lighting and simple level geometry, but the sprites are quite a bit sharper (the hand holding the gun is what I first really noticed)
And I completely agree, it is a great port... I was actually pretty impressed with how smooth the controls felt... I hate to say it, but I think I'll end up playing more Doom than for some time to come...

one can only hope for Mods.
My favorite was the barney mod back in the day. I would pay 50-100 MS points for that

imo It should be 400 points. Im a little disapointed with the graphics. They appear to me exactly the same. The should of spruced them up to be that of like doom 3d or jdoom quality.

Also, theres no free look with the right stick. In games like jdoom, they allow free look. I know theres the auto aim but with free look, it makes the game more fun because you can look around and it feels more natural.
Then again this game has some better points to it, like 4 player online co-op and deathmatch. Thats just damn cool as playing that sorta stuff on a pc is always causing issues and not as fun.
For now im not gonna buy it. If a friend decided he wants to buy it then I will too just to play co-op however.
They really should of made the price 1200 MS points and included doom 1 and doom 2. Then they should also release the .wad editor for 400 ms points on marketplace so we can make .wads and play on them via auto download when people join.
Also, is there anyway to use cheat codes? I can beat the game on nightmare I played doom so much (well who knows with the 360 controller), but I still love to turn cheats on from time to time in doom to mess around. I really like the no clipping one.

its not bad, but me and a guest cant play together on xbox live deathmatch like you can in halo. i think thats a necessary feature. cod2 didnt have it. but in graw you can play online with a guest and show them the game without being antisocial. anyone else feel this way? i feel like i wont play the doom game i bought on xbla as much because i cant play it online with a friend

I agree mdb... I really wish they'd let you do that in COD2, and I'm really hoping they've added the ability in COD3. But somehow I doubt they are. :(
