Ninety-Nine Nights not worth six night rental?

The Japanese import version of Ninety-Nine Nights gets a narcoleptic early review from Gamebrink. Could it be this long-awaited title is "broken" and "barely worth a rental"?:

Pros
  • Graphics are nice
  • Music is good
  • Crowd Control is mindless but fun if that’s your kind of thing
Cons
  • Boss fights are dreadful
  • Engine is broken when it comes to one on one fights
  • There is no gameplay balance
  • No checkpoints
  • No Story
  • No lip-synch in cutscenes and the animation is jerky for some reason
  • Fairly short game with limited amount of stages
Tons of enemies and frustrating  boss fights? Sounds like Dynasty Warriors meets Kameo. It sickens me to hear the word broken when describing any 360 game, especially one that has chance to win some Japanese fans.

[Thanks Sense]

1. Its a damn shame this bombed it would have been nice if it was very good. there isnt a game like this out for the 360 yet (thats any good)

2. Is the link for "early review" supposed to link to Gamespot's image page instead of the Gamebrink review? Because it does.

3. Guess we will continue waiting for Too Human then ;)

4. Damn that blows. I was really looking forward to that one. I suppose they could always fix it for the US release, but since that rarely ever actually happens, we're probably just as screwed. I wonder if they'll even still bother bringing it over... Too bad working designs is gone. One of the few companies to ever bother improving games for American releases.

5. Ditto on Working Designs. I spent a LOT of time playing through every campaign in Dragon Force.

Back on topic though, I was really bummed to hear N3 sucked. I was worried about it when I saw the gameplay trailers. Oh well. Is Too Human scheduled for this year? I haven't really been keeping up with it lately.

6. I'm really not sure what game he's playing but from what I have seen so far(And by the way it has been pretty extensive!) it looks great and rund fine. Sounds like mabye he has a little PS3 Fanboyism in him!!! Not to mention....what site do you write for!! Oh that's right I never heard of you or your site!!!

7. From all the gameplay screens and movies, the game seemed more of a button masher than anything deep. I'm not surprised about the short simplistic gameplay with a lack of a story. Collision detection looked non-existent as well. Could N3 be equivalent to Sony's PS3 ducky tech demo... "let see how many of these guys we can get onto the screen..."

8. Just chiming in again to say that Gamebrink is a pretty good site. If you like reading about Japanese games and imports, it's a good read. I've found lots of great info there. I've sent quite a bit of it to Joystiq and its sister sites, and they've ran with a lot of it.

Definitely worth checking out.

9.
This is what happens when you have two development teams who DONT SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE! One was Korean and the other Japanese.

I was also looking forward to this title. I was hoping it would be a next-gen version of Kingdom under Fire but it's looks like it's going to bomb.

If I was investors in this product I'd be pissed.. by the way that is Mircosoft.
