Top Spin 2 serves up demo date

Here's a racquet sport warm up while you're waiting to find out if Grand Theft Ping Pong is the real deal: According to 2K Sports Senior Producer Thorsten Moeckel, a Top Spin 2 demo will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace a "few days" before the game's April 7 release date.

How important have demos been to your gaming decisions so far? Is it pretty much a necessity for every Xbox 360 game? Have you decided not to purchase a game after being disappointed with the demo?

1. I hope this game turns out better then the first one! I will die if it's garbage. I love tennis!

2. demo's are one of my favorite aspects of the 360. I dont have a lot of money so the demos give me a chance to try out a game and thats how i choose to buy it or not. or, like with fight night, i just use that game, i dont need to buy the game if i have that.

3. I would have to say, most of the games I have played as demos on the 360 have made me not want to buy the full game. Except for games on the live arcade. Most of those demos do make me want to buy the games. Now why is that? Maybe because there kinda fun, kind of like the demos for 360 games, thre fun to play. But not fun enough for $59.99. Where as the games on live arcade at like $9.99. or around there are priced really good. So make the games cheaper and I will buy more of them. Like full auto. Its a fun game as a demo, but at $59.99, its really stupid.

4. Oh yeah. Played the demo for Full Auto, decided not to buy it. Didn't see anything there that made me think that game should be on a 360.

Looked like something from a PS/2.

5. Downloading demos on the 360 is one of my favorite features. It definitely gives me a sense of the of games I would never consider buying in the first place..

6. The Outfit sucks. Won't ever buy that game. You can barely used the rifle for any long distance.

7. I think downloading is the best feature they introduced....

this is a true next gen gaming. I downloaded marble blast the other day and it is such a fun game... probably one of the top 5 games of all the available 360 games.

I would love it if they could develop third party titles that were offered on PS one (Since sony doesnt own the games rights)

Also, I like more visual improvement. I think game play is important but it is the visual upgrades that differentiates them. Like CoD2 for xbox and PS2... if CoD2 for 360 had crappy graphics, there wouldnt have been any difference between the two versions....

Hope top spin lives upto my expectations!!!

thats my two cents..

8. Anyone notice that Roddick looks like an amputee on that cover?

9. After I played the NFSMW and Outfit demos, I wanted those games. But, the Full Auto demo turned me off. So in all, demos are good to have.

10. hmm. I have downloaded every game demo so far. I download demos to see if a game is worth a rent. If a game is enjoyable in the demo, I will rent it and give it some play. If I ever purchase a game, I know ahead of time I will purchase it. I never rent a game or play a demo and then purchase it. Thats just dumb. I know for sure im gonna buy Farcry when it comes out, I dont need a demo or rental to tell me that.

For Movie to game adaptions demos are real good. Cant wait to play a superman demo. If the superman demo makes the game seem like a fun game, ill spend the $8 or whatever and rent the game. I would never buy one of those superman or spiderman or movie games tho. They may be fun, but they never have replay value or extrodanary multiplayer.

so yeah, Demos have no effect whatsoever on my purchasing decision of a game.

11. Definately have an impact...I loved the Fight Night Demo...did not intend on purchasing before I played the demo...but I ended up even preordering.

Same with Need For Speed.
I also knew that I was not interested in Full Auto, PGR, The Outfit...etc after playing those Demos.

12. I think that one of the main selling points for the Live Arcade was the demos. I would of never buaght any Arcade games if it wasnt for the Demos. So i think that demo's are important but i dont think that i would pay full price for a game that had a fun demo...although i did do that for Kung Fu Chaos a while ago...

13. I decided not to buy Full Auto after playing the demo. It was way to choppy and the graphics were sub par for what I was expecting. Even if these problems were fixed for the retail versioin, I think that the developers need to make sure their demos are as good as possible b/c they are the new rental/try before you buy system.

14. Interestingly enough, I just finished writing about this very subject on my blog not too long ago.

I think game demos are a great tool to raise awareness for a game and can even convince someone to make a purchase.

I had no intention of buying Fight Night Round 3, but after playing the demo, I couldn't get enough and because of it, they got a sale.

Of course, it works both ways too. Companies have to be very careful. If the demo is from a very early build and is not representative of what the final game will be like, it is probably best not to release one at all. Or if the game is just plain bad, they should probably shy away from a demo.

But, I've bought many games which I would have never bought if not for their great demos.

15. Has anyone played top spin 2 yet for 360? I heard it came out 2 days ago and they have it in stock at my local gamespot here in Virginia.
