Video: Darksiders developer diary

An open world action-adventure game with some very nice looking graphics? How did we not see this before? Joystiq even wrote a preview, and yet somehow we missed it. Anywho, a new developer diary for DarkSiders has been released and the game is looking pretty nice. As stated above, it's an action adventure game with open areas, slick looking combat, puzzle solving and, of course, character upgrades. In short, it looks hot. The beginning of the video notes that the footage is taken from an E3 demo, so hopefully we'll be getting our hands on it when the show starts later this month.

Video: Saints Row 2 actually has a story

Even though Saints Row 2 and GTAIV are very different, Saints Row 2 isn't totally forgoing some sort of fleshed out storyline. Per the latest Saints Row teaser trailer, we're treated to a taste of what sort of story Saints Row 2 will follow, a glimpse at the characters involved and (of course) some in-game footage. It's a pretty interesting trailer at that. What's our favorite one liner you ask? "You definitely need a stripper pole in this b*tch" ... now that's classic Saints Row.

Supreme Surrender Episode 2

The second episode of Rooster Teeth's Supreme Surrender -- based on Supreme Commander, see what they did there? -- is now online. We think it's safe to say that this mini-series isn't as inspired as, say, Red vs Blue, but it's still worth a chuckle. This episode continues the saga of the first episode, as the incredibly large alien force continues to "surrender" to the much smaller force (much to their delighted surprise). The only problem is that surrendering appears to be worse than all out war. Enjoy.

Frontlines enables 50 players on all maps

With the release of the new (and free) multiplayer map "Boneyard", THQ flipped the magical Frontlines: Fuel of War multiplayer switch and enabled 50 player online multiplayer on all of the game's maps. A huge step up since launch, when only the map "Village" had 50 player versus enabled. Not only has multiplayer been opened up, but a patch has been released adding a "new spawn protection system, as well as expanded voice-over-IP communications, which includes squad to squad chat, proximity, and inter-vehicle communication." Enjoy your chaotic Frontlines gaming fun.

Grab your free Frontlines 'Bonyeard' DLC

If you are still playing Frontlines: Fuel of War's online multiplayer then we're going to have to label you as both "committed" and "obsessed". So, this post is for those fanboys, because they'll probably be the only ones using this nugget of DLC info to get their download on.

Available for FREE as a download off the XBLM is a new Frontlines Boneyard Map which is said to include "never before seen Automatic Shotgun, Rocket Jeep and Red Star Transport Helicopter" and "Shilnaya Balka missile silos" ... fun! This is the first of five (possibly free?) Frontlines multilpayer maps, so keep your eyes peeled for more DLC in the near future. That is if you're one of those "committed" or "obsessed" Frontlines fanboys.

THQ: Saints Row 2 and GTAIV are 'very different'

Saints Row 2 will be releasing on August 26th October 14th and THQ wants everyone to know that it isn't just a GTAIV clone, that Saints is its own creation and is an experience "totally different" than what Rockstar offers. Or so says THQ CEO Brian Farrell who, during a recent conference call, admitted that "we're always concerned about GTA as a competitor" but mentioned that with Saints Row 2 they "have a very differentiated product in this open-world genre" that has more "tongue-in-cheek ... silly, over-the-top gameplay." And we have no reason to doubt Mr. Farrell. We like Saints Row for what it is, not trying to be overly serious and focusing more on the gameplay shenanigans rather than a serious, deep storyline. Heck, with Gary Busey peddling your product, you have to have some amount of humor. Right?

New machinima miniseries: Supreme Surrender

In honor of the impending release of the RTS Supreme Commander for Xbox 360 (it comes out next week, available now on PC), Rooster Teeth -- the folks behind Red vs Blue, among other things -- has created a new miniseries called Supreme Surrender. As you may have guessed, the miniseries is filmed entirely within the Supreme Commander game engine. The first episode begins as two emissaries from warring factions await the arrival of a third emissary who wishes to surrender. Give it a watch and tell us what you think.

X3F TV -- XBLA in Brief: Elements of Destruction and Sea Life Safari

XBLA in Brief examines two unusual Xbox Live Arcade titles this week. First up is Elements of Destruction which has players essentially playing as nature itself, using tornadoes, earthquakes, and lightning to destroy everything in sight. Sea Life Safari on the other hand, is a game about taking pictures of fish. See? Kind of different for XBLA, isn't it? Watch the new episode and decide if either is worth your hardearned MS Points.

Joystiq: THQ Family Album

THQ has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons recently. But do we really know who THQ is? Really, have you ever sat in your bed, late at night and wondered to yourself, "who is THQ?" No? Well ... it doesn't matter because now it will never happen. Thanks to Joystiq's ongoing Family Album series you won't have to stay up kicking yourself for not knowing the development team behind the licensed Ratatouille game. You're welcome.

No Saints Row 2 for you until October 14th

We have sad, sad news for all fanboys who are lil' gang members in training. THQ just announced that Saints Row 2, which was originally set for release on August 26th, has been delayed until October. October 14th to be exact. THQ cited "marketing issues" and overall "product quality" as reasons for the delay, saying that Saints Row 2 "is done" and that now "it's about polish." Humph ...

Polish is always good and we'd rather take a two month delay then see a Saints Row sequel that plays like utter crud. But saying that that doesn't mean we have to be cheery about it. So, our official stance on the delay is anti-cheery acceptance.

XBLA Achievement Smorgasbord

After the XBLA drought last week, we're now getting hit by a relative flood of new things. First are a few new achievement lists, which include some games that have fallen off the radar a bit. Remember Aces of the Galaxy? We barely did either. The 3D space shooter was originally set to release last fall, and it looks as though Microsoft is finally readying it for release. How about Elements of Destruction? Remember that one? It gives you control over the forces of nature and allows you to use them to wreak havoc. Now Sealife Safari should be familiar enough to resonate, as we did a preview of the on-rails photography game recently. The full lists can be found after the break.

Marvel Super Hero Squad, it's kiddy, it's coming

What with super-hero movies going mainstream, it's going to be more and more common to see licenses such as those being used to appeal to the main stream in other entertainment industries. Like the games industry for instance...

Now we had never heard of Marvel's Super Hero Squad before this, but it is apparently a action figure line similar to Kubricks, and Marvel now has an animated series on the way, along with the THQ-published game. Not much is known about the game at the moment, but lets face it, it's a kid's game, based on a kid's line of cheap toys, based on comics. You don't need to know any more about it.

Gary Busey returns for more Saints Row 2 vids

You may recall Gary Busey's Saint's Row 2 videos from earlier this month. They are, to say the least, insane. That is to say that Gary Busey is insane, but that's okay. It works for him, makes him money. What we're getting at here is that Uncle Gary is back with more Saints Row 2 videos, and he's as crazy as ever. We know the purpose of these videos is to advertise Saints Row 2, but we just can't get over Gary. Frankly, "People don't like getting shot in the face" may be the best line we've ever heard. Find another video featuring Tulsa's insane favorite son after the break.

The tools of Saints Row 2 destruction

Thanks to Uncle Gary, we already have had a chance to preview some of Saints Row 2's arsenal of weapons, but nothing too in depth. Now, thanks to IGN, we have been graced with a rather extensive list of Saints Row 2 weaponry brought to you by helpful folks at ULTOR. You have your standard Annihilator rocket launcher, AS14 Hammer machine gun and stun gun, but also included in the mix are more interesting tools of destruction like a chainsaw and a (very hot) flamethrower. Make the jump to get all the deets and view a preview of the weapons and vehicles you'll encounter in the vid embedded after the break. Dual wielding shock paddles FTW!

Rocket Riot XBLA details, screens

We first caught wind of the XBLA rocket-pack-based shooter back in November, back when there was little to no information on the game. Now we have a few more details on the game, not much unfortunately, but enough to give us (and you) an insight into the final product. Rocket Riot sticks closely to the ideas evoked by its name, featuring a world rendered in stylized 8bit form that is entirely destructible with your tiny avatar's bazooka. The game will feature over 80 single player missions and multiplayer for up to eight players online (four local) with four different gametypes. The game's website has a bit more info, but it's not very concrete and is mainly teaser. Much of the game is still under wraps for now, but we do know that it will be releasing before year's end, and likely during the fall, as the game appears to still have a ways to go. Still, the screens look like something fresh, so we'll keep and eye on this one.
