Rumor: Voice of Splinter Cell axed due to ego and cash demands

In an update to their insider report about good old Michael Ironside being axed by Ubisoft as the voice actor of Sam Fisher for the upcoming Splinter Cell: Conviction, Sarcastic Gamer is reporting on the supposed reason for Ubisoft's axing ways.

According to Sarcastic Gamer's internal Conviction source, Ironside was let go because "he was getting to way too egotistical about the project and [was] extremely difficult to work with." The insider also mentioned that the other reason for the bad blood was because Ironside "was also asking for a sh*t load of money." Again, we aren't certain if these reasons are why Ironside was let go or even if Ironside has indeed been axed from Conviction seeing that Ubi hasn't said a word regarding the rumor. Lesson learned though, don't have a huge ego, don't demand lots of money and be a "yes man" and you'll get far in the voice acting business.

Rumor: Conviction loses voice of Sam Fisher

An interesting rumor coming from our chums over at Sarcastic Gamer tells us that, according to their "people", they've been informed that voice actor Michael Ironside (the iconic voice behind Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher) has been axed and will not voice Fisher in the upcoming release Conviction. Sarcastic Gamer's tipster didn't give any reason for Ironside's dismissal, but we have a feeling that, if this turns out to be true, the almighty dollar would be to blame. Let's just hope this rumor ends up being hogwash, because we think we can all agree that Sam Fisher isn't Sam Fisher without Ironside behind the mic. Ubisoft, with fury in our eyes and fists clenched, we're warning you. Don't you screw Conviction up like this.

Rumor: Splinter Cell Conviction delayed way back into 2009-2010

After a much too long hiatus, the rumor mill is back to its rumor mill ways and brings us word that Ubisoft's Splinter Cell Conviction has been delayed ... into 2009 ... or 2010 ... GASP!

According to CVG, the latest issue of Xbox World 360 reports that Ubisoft Montreal has gone "back to the drawing board" in regards to Conviction's development after realizing how outdated its gameplay mechanics really were in comparison to Ubisoft's own Assassin's Creed. But for now, the long, long, long delay is just a rumor. Though, with Ubisoft's refusal to comment on said rumor, we can't help but begin to come to the sad realization that our Conviction must wait a few more years. Depressing ...

Alan Wake, Fable 2 and others will release in 2008

Something we forgot to mention that was included in Dan Mattrick's ever enjoyable memo was the fact that, for the first time ever, a few Xbox 360 games have been confirmed for a 2008 release.

Nestled towards the bottom of Mattrick's memo he lists a few games that'll release in 2008 including the not so canceled Alan Wake and Fable 2 as well as Too Human, Halo Wars, Splinter Cell: Conviction and "several exciting yet-to-be-announced titles". Wait, did you get that? Alan Wake is no longer rumored, but is now confirmed for release this year! Double w00t, w00t to that! But don't get us wrong. We're totally happy to hear Fable 2, Too Human and the others are also confirmed for release this year, it's just that we've been in an Alan Wake drought as of late and hearing that it hasn't turned into vaporware makes us giddy. Anyhoo, it's nice to see some of the our 2008 game release predictions coming true and know that we won't be in a gaming slump after last year's amazing lineup. It's time to get your pre-orders lined up fanboys, because this year is going to be grreat!

Doh! Splinter Cell Conviction gets delayed

Yesterday, as part of Ubisoft's end of the quarter fiscal talk with their investors, they revealed that the 360 exclusive Splinter Cell Conviction is taking longer than expected to develop and has been delayed. Originally, Conviction was planned for release sometime between January and March 2008, but Ubisoft made it clear that the game wouldn't release in that time frame and is now targeted for sometime on or after April 2008. And we know, being the kind heart you are, that your instant reaction to the Conviction delay is to worry about Ubisoft's financials. But don't, because Ubisoft already planned for the delay and their earnings outlook is in check.
