Rumor: Achievements to rollover to Xbox 720

Rumor: 'Lips' isn't a game, it's a new accessory
The mystery of the "Lips" game (news that was leaked days early thanks to Microsoft's press site) is seeing another twist, with word that "Lips" really isn't a game. Instead, "Lips" is rumored to be the codename for a new Xbox 360 accessory.8Bit Joystick is reporting that months ago they got a hold of insider documents from the Xbox 360 engineering team and came across mention of a new 360 voice accessory code named "Lips". No more information was detailed in the supposed insider documents, but 8Bit Joystick speculates that these "Lips" will either be a new way to communicate or will add voice recognition to games. We aren't sure if that makes much sense seeing that we have a perfectly functioning headset that does voice recognition, but we'll go with it seeing that "Lips" speculation is more fun when thinking about new accessories. So ... is tomorrow's news here yet?
First Banjo-Kazooie 3 screens surface [update]

Hitting the internets today are two alleged leaked screenshots from Rare's upcoming Banjo-Kazooie 3 and, if legit, they'd be our first look at what we can expect from Rare's cartoon duo. Personally, the screenshots (viewable in the gallery below) look to be rather official and could be associated with some sort of press kit that's set to release as part of Microsoft's press event they're holding next week. For analysis' sake, let's say these are real Banjo-Kazooie 3 screens, what is your knee-jerk impression of Rare's handiwork?
Rumor: Rare game a sequel to a released 360 title
More rumors folks! This time it's in regards to that unannounced Rare game that's going to be hitting before year's end. According to a poster on NeoGAF who claims to be under NDA (a claim backed up by other posters' reactions to the info), the title is a sequel to a game of Rare's that has already been released on the 360. Logically, that narrows things down quite a bit. Is it Kameo? With Banjo Kazooie on the way? No. A Perfect Dark game? With Gears 2 on the way? No. Jetpac Re-Refueled? Hell No.
Given that this is a rumor, we could still be way off base, but we're gonna call this one as a Viva Pinata sequel. If it is, hopefully Microsoft will actually market it this time around, so people know about it and it actually sells.

Rumor: Rockstar to buy APB, release as GTA Online

Rumor has it that Realtime may have secured the APB license not only to distribute it as they wish, but possibly to re-package it and sell it to Rockstar as GTA Online. Thus far, Realtime has downplayed the whole idea of an APB re-sell, but did confirm that one reason for their recent APB acquisition was "to look for another partner; someone else who may well be interested and have the infrastructure [to support it]." Interesting stuff. Seeing that GTAIV is all the hawtness right now and from what we've seen of APB, a re-worked GTA Online MMO may not be all that bad of an idea. But only time will tell.
Rumor: Blu-ray equipped 360 ships Q3

According to the Chinese Economic Daily News, Pegatron Technology (an OEM subsidiary of Asustek Computer who deals with computer component manufacturing) has been selected by Microsoft to assemble Xbox 360 consoles with Blu-ray drives which will begin shipping Q3 2008. And, as Joystiq points out, the report's wording hints at the Blu-ray drive being internal rather than an external add-on. So, how long will it take for Microsoft to deny this latest Blu-ray gem? We give them until 4:00PM eastern.

Ubisoft trademarks Prince of Persia Prodigy

It's been rumored for a while, and even officially confirmed for fiscal year 2008, but we really don't know much about the next Prince of Persia game. The loose talk is that the next trilogy will be a form of prequel, and it looks as though the first game of said trilogy could be called Prodigy. Recently trademarked by Ubisoft, Prince of Persia Prodigy is an admittedly vague title and could possibly refer to another PoP product, but with a new official teaser site up and the game rumored to be hitting this fall, an official name hitting now feels about right.
Furthermore, other rumors say that the game will be shown at Ubidays (an editorial event) sometime in the near future and that the game's REAL title is in fact Prince of Persia Zero. We'll just have to wait for Ubidays for more concrete info, but those with time to kill can endlessly refresh the official page to attempt to quickly decipher the writing before it's covered.

Rumor: Netflix's new partnerships to include the 360

It has been no secret that Netflix has been kicking around the idea of using the Xbox 360 to grow its subscription service and their announcement of three new partnerships could ultimately lead to Microsoft being one. But, like we said, this is a huge stretch. Microsoft already has a lot invested in the current Video Marketplace setup and the addition of Netflix would throw a huge wrench into things. That is unless there's piles of cash to be made ... so, maybe?

Rumor: Happy Tree Friends: FA delayed yet again

Our confusion stems from a "Latest News" post over on the official website for Happy Tree Friends which mentions that "due to the expansion of the game launch to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea, the 'False Alarm' game will now push back to a later date." That's pretty cut and dry if it weren't for the fact that the the news post doesn't have a time stamp or any reference to when it was published. So, this delay news could be weeks old and refer back to the original delay from the second week of April to April 21st, or it's a brand new delay that pushes False Alarm back even further. Hence the mildly confusing "rumor" tag. Get it? Okay, good ...

Rumor: 60GB to replace 20GB HDD in 360 Pros
With rumors of European Xbox 360 price cuts flying around, we have yet another 360 hardware rumor making the internet rounds and it targets the 360's hard drive.According to TrustedReviews and their "rock solid source", they're claiming that Microsoft has plans to replace the Xbox 360 Pros' current 20GB HDD with a larger 60GB drive by this June. A move that isn't all that far fetched seeing that they probably want to to help accommodate all that HD content they want you to purchase off the Marketplace. TrustedReviews ratchets up the rumor mill even further by saying that their insider told them that Microsoft is bouncing around the idea of adding yet another SKU to the 360 lineup. A new console that would reap the fruits of the rumored Sony / Microsoft negotiations and feature a Blu-ray drive. So, is anyone willing to take a stab at what the rumored 60GB HDD or Blu-ray equipped models would be called? We'll be trail-blazers and go with "Xbox 360 Six Pack" for the 60GB model and "Xbox 360 HD DVD Died So Blu-ray It Is" for the Blu-ray version.

Rumor: XBLA gets Triggerheart Exelica this week [update]
Editor's update: It appears we've already covered this particular story. Xbox 360 Fanboy apologizes for the error and the writer responsible has been placed in a burlap sack and beaten with reeds.IGN noticed that Japanese developer Warashi is confirming that their baby Triggerheart Exelica will be releasing to the Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, February 27th. Their official website tells us that this 2D shooter will be 800 Microsoft points and should offer exactly what Triggerheart gave us on the Dreamcast. It also should make the Xbox 360 "dance beautifully" (inside Google translate joke). Again, Triggerheart Exelica isn't 100% confirmed for release this week as Microsoft will make that announcement in but a few hours. Though, we'd be willing to make $3 wager on this rumor being true ... we just have a feeling.

Rumor: Canada getting a $50 Xbox 360 price drop

The FutureShop employee got his hands on an upcoming sales ad that lists all Xbox 360 models at $50 cheaper than normal retail. So, that puts the Pro system at $349 and the Elite at $449. Now the only question is whether or not this $50 Canadian discount is a one week, FutureShop only sale or a Microsoft backed price cut for all of Canada. Maybe announced today at GDC? And a country wide price cut wouldn't be all that crazy, seeing that the U.S. dollar and Canadian dollar are nearly equal and a $50 price drop would make the console's price the same. If you're a Canadian in the market for an Xbox 360, you should definitely hold off until Friday. Hopefully we'll know more by then as a $50 savings is nothing to take lightly.
Rumor: New Xbox Live service is in the works
Microsoft's careers websites just created (not on purpose, of course) a brand new and very exciting Xbox Live rumor that may tell us where the Live platform is headed. According to the first draft of Microsoft's Program Manager job listing (which has since been reworded), the job description reads out like the second coming of "Want to be involved in the next release of Xbox? Join the server-backed games team, part of the Xbox Live team that's responsible for creating a completely new way for mainstream audiences to enjoy the Xbox and Live. We're building the games, the console interface and logic, and the server support for a totally new Live experience. Both the games and the dashboard experience will be deeply paired with dynamic server support to create a compelling, fresh scenario each time."
Ooo, fresh scenarios! But what exactly does that mean? We really aren't sure, but it could mean big changes for Xbox Live and big changes for how subscribers use the service in the future. Now that we think about it, we're putting our Vegas money on Xbox Live becoming a virtual reality contrived, Rock Band listening, chatpad enhanced, open Marketplace, ninja-like service with free soda refills. And yes, we have had way too much caffeine this morning.

New KOTOR rumor just that

The rumor mill was spinning at a manic pace yesterday thanks to a little analyst report from one of the biggest companies in the business, EA. The KOTOR listing after BioWare's name in the slide from John Riccitello's presentation told many of us that our prayers had been answered, and that the series had returned from whence it had come. Yet fate said that this was not to be. For you see, being less romantic about the subject than us, an EA PR representative told the press that the slide did not in fact refer to games in development, but rather "it addresses future and past titles" and that it's more of a company's pedigree than it's work order. As horrible as this news is there is actually a silver lining, that MMO they're still developing could still be Star Wars themed, and so (as niche as that corner of the universe is) there's still hope for a KOTOR MMO.
As a side note, this effectively kills the speculation over the continuation of the White Council project, as well as the rumored Black sequel and any other craziness that may have come out of the analyst meeting. Though there is always the possibility that it's all true and that the EA PR department exploded yesterday and went into damage control mode, with this being the result. PR departments have done crazier things.
