X3F TV -- XBLA in Brief: Aces of the Galaxy and Roogoo

It's another double dose of games this week for XBLA in Brief. This time, we examine Aces of the Galaxy and Roogoo. Aces of the Galaxy is an on-rails space shooter, whereas Roogoo is a puzzle game. What are the odds that both of them are actually pretty good? Frankly, we think those odds are fairly slim, but we're happy to say that both games manage to impress in their own way. Watch the latest episode and find out if either game is right for you.

Roogoo and Aces of the Galaxy to XBLA this week

This week we're in for yet another Xbox Live Arcade twofer (it's starting to become a welcome trend) as both Spidermonk Entertainment's cute puzzler Roogoo and Artech Studios' Aces of the Galaxy make their XBLA debut this Wednesday, June 4th.

Roogoo, the too cute puzzle game will be available for 800 Microsoft points and feature 45 levels, multiplayer over Live and locally as well as plenty of evil Meemoos. The other half of this week's twofer, Aces of the Galaxy will also be available for 800 MS points and is an old-school space shooter featuring online and local co-op play as well as visuals that can be best described as "pretty pretty". Screenshots are below for your viewing enjoyment.

Video: Roogoo has shapes, puzzles and monkeys

The crew over at Xbox360Achievements posted an exclusive trailer for upcoming XBLA puzzle game Roogoo. And after giving it a good watch, we came to the conclusion that the land of Roogoo is full of lots and lots shapes. Shapes that, when aligned correctly, help save countless lives and worlds. Thanks to the video, we also learn some Roogoo specifics including mention that the game will feature 45 different levels of puzzle fun and co-op play as well. On second watch, we think we spotted a crowned monkey patiently sitting in a UFO. How fun.

[Thanks, Chris]

German Ratings Board reveals a slew of XBLA titles

Having revealed games before, the German games rating board the USK is at it again, exposing previously unknown XBLA games. Shown over at xblah.net there are a myriad of titles across several genres, but the most stand out title would have to be a virtual version of the classic board-game Ticket To Ride in which players compete to build railroads across the countryside. From the sound of things it'll be similar to the conversion from the board game version of The Settlers of Catan and the XBLA version, Catan.

The other titles rated by the USK include the Penny Arcade XBLA game, the puzzler RooGoo, and a golf game entitled Golf: Tee it Up! Not only that, but there were also a few more games revealed by the American ratings board, the ESRB. Those two games were the ancient computer game Lode Runner, and the card game simulator Gin Rummy. None of these titles are official of course, but as with all games revealed in this fashion we must remember that rating's boards are not in the business of making of games, nor is having a game rated at all cheap. This is great news though, and should portend the approaching release of said titles. With such an ever expanding library of titles it seems XBLA is really coming into it's own, catering to a variety of demographics and hopefully with something for everyone.

Bring on the Roogoo and bring on the XBLA happy!

SouthPeak Games just revealed that they will be taking their first adventure into the murky development bogs of the Xbox Live Arcade with the announcement of Roogoo.

We'd love to kick off the Roogoo talk with us gushing about the game's art style, but we guess we should explain what exactly Roogoo is. Simply put, it's a puzzle game where players try to help settle the battle over planet "Roo" by rotating floating discs (which look a lot like those rolling shape baby toys) so that the falling shapes can land on the planet below. Simple enough. Now, since that's out of the way, allow us to gush over the game's art style. It's delicious! So friendly, so welcoming, so ... overly fun! We dare say yum'alicious times four! SouthPeak also mentioned that a Roogoo XBLA release will be happening sometime this April when they promise to bring the colorful falling shapes and the happy too.
