Live top ten: Sin City descends

Last week, Crackdown came on strong with bronze position on the Live top ten. Now it's swapped spots with Rainbow Six: Vegas as Call of Duty 3 continues to be just shy of the podium. GRAW 2's mulitplayer demo makes a return to take the Crackdown demo's position, which moved to 7th. Madden refuses to budge at sixth while Lost Planet and Oblivion get nudged to eighth and ninth, respectively. GRAW rounds out the bottom of the list while last, and obviously not least, Gears of War retains its top spot over all of Xbox Live-dom. Do you feel slightly confused? If so, our simple, yet eloquent list awaits your review after the break, complete with last weeks standings in parentheses.

$10 off GRAW 2 this week only

If you've been in search for one of the best GRAW 2 deals this week, it looks like Circuit City is the winner. For this week's release of GRAW 2 Circuit City will be discounting the game by $10 and will retail for $49.99. It's not an amazing offer, but it sure beats paying the full $59.99 price tag. And, as an added bonus, if the game isn't in store by 2PM on Wednesday they'll give you a $20 gift card. So, save yourself $10 on the (very similar to GRAW) sequel and hope the UPS guy gets lost in the massive urban sprawl.

UK GRAW 2 preorders getting exclusive weapon [update 1]

Our UK friends who preordered Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 at their local GAME store will be receiving a special treat. Xboxic discovered that preorders will be emailed a code that will allow them to download a new gun called the Famas. Of course this begs the question whether or not it is really fair for certain players to have weapons that others either can't get or would have to pay for. We don't agree with messing up the "balance" of GRAW 2's multiplayer weapons system (if there is balance) by allowing exclusive weapons and not having a level playing field. What do you think, should developers offer rare or purchasable weapons in FPS or do you think it just isn't fair?

Update 1: Chris stopped by the forums to set things straight. This free code is for the Famas gun in the single player campaign and not multiplayer. Everyone will have the gun in multiplayer. You can now rest, everything is zen-like in the world.

GRAW 2 MP Demo Impressions

After having had a few days to delve deep into the demo for GRAW 2's multiplayer, we don't feel that it has made the same steps forward as the single player has. We're still stuck with no cover system, but we do get the new full screen cross-com by holding down the right bumper. The Co-Op missions are a lot of fun, and the ability to invite friends to games in a demo is really nice, but the user interface is more or less identical to the previous version. Sure, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, but GRAW's UI wasn't exactly perfect. The graphics in multiplayer did however look closer to the caliber of the single player, but their still is a noticeable difference between the two. With the game having gone gold recently, it looks like we won't have long to find out how the retail version is. What did you think of the demo? Does it make you want to buy GRAW 2, or do you pretty much have to because "everyone else" is?

GRAW 2 is gold, new feature revealed

Tom Clancy fans eager to get their hands on GRAW 2 will be happy to learn that the game has officially gone gold. TeamXbox reports that Ubisoft made the announcement today, stating that the game should be available on store shelves by Thursday, March 8th (just in time for our heads to asplode from covering GDC). In celebration of this momentous occasion, Ubisoft also revealed the entire list of achievements for the game. Achievements are more or less evenly spread among campaign, co-op, and adversarial modes. The adversarial achievements all require that at least 5 gamertags be in the session, presumably to prevent boosting. So, the game has gone gold and the achievements have been uncovered, but that's not the best part. No, Ubisoft had one more surprise for us. GRAW 2 will feature an in game achievement tracker. The achievement tracker, surprisingly, keeps track of your achievement progress. In other words, if you're wondering how many more sniper kills you have to make to acquire the "100 sniper kills" achievement, all you have to do is pull up the tracker and check. We're going to go on record and say that this feature should be in every game. You listening Microsoft?

Now that we've all had a chance to try both campaign and multiplayer demos, what do you think? Is a GRAW 2 purchase inevitable?

GRAW 2 MP demo assaults Xbox Live

The GRAW 2 multiplayer demo that was promised last week is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Clocking in at around 300 MB, the demo allows up to 16 players on one map called Outpost. It's arguable that this demo is more important than the recently released campaign demo, as players will be spending most of their time in multiplayer. The demo is currently only available to gold members.

In a surprise twist, a much larger MLB 2K7 demo is available as well. Go forth, download, and enjoy.

GRAW 2 Multi demo coming Monday

Today, Ubisoft confirmed that there will be a GRAW 2 multiplayer demo available next Monday, which is February 26th for those not keeping score. On the map that is playable, you will be able to participate in both co-op and adversarial matches with up to 15 other gamers. The thing gamers are most curious to find out is what new gameplay mechanics from the single player experience will make the jump over to multiplayer. Which features do you want to make the cut, aside from a cover system?

Live top ten: Revenge of the Demos

For two weeks in a row now, we've had demos creeping into the Xbox Live activity charts. This week is no different, bringing a forth into the fold, ironically taking the forth spot. Of course, we're talking about the Def Jam: Icon demo. Gears of War and Rainbow Six: Vegas continue to dominate and hold onto their stranglehold for the top spots. COD3 moved into bronze position, pushing Crackdown to fifth behind the aforementioned new demo. Madden, Lost Planet, NBA Street and Oblivion stay put, and GRAW 2's demo replaces its predecessor in tenth place. Take a gander at our handy dandy list after the break.

Rumor: GRAW 2 multiplayer demo coming soon

Over at Hexus Gaming they are reporting that they received some insider information on the status of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2's multiplayer demo. After attending a Ubisoft hosted GRAW 2 event, Hexus Gaming says they confirmed with a Ubisoft representative that the GRAW 2 multiplayer demo will be available on the XBLM this coming week. The idea of a multiplayer demo isn't all that far fetched, but being released this week might be stretching it, knowing Microsoft's certification process. We hope we can get more hands on time with GRAW 2 before we commit to a purchase, because the single player demo just wasn't long enough to get a good enough feel for the game.

Four new GRAW 2 videos on Marketplace

Major Nelson just posted an Xbox Live Marketplace update about four new gameplay videos for Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2 on Marketplace. The flavors to choose from feature the new sniper rifle, air strike command, squad tactics and gatling gun mounted on the helicopter. They are available in 480p and 720p, and average about 30 MB and 160 MB, respectively. The sniper trailer appears to be the shortest, as its size is 9 MB and 40 MB. In any case, these videos should help shed some light on features you couldn't pick up from the demo.

It's alive! GRAW 2 official site is up

Fanboys, just a heads up that the official website for Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is up and running. At the site you'll have access to all kinds of GRAW 2 media, screenshots, news, and the official forums to troll around. Oh yeah! There are also a few GRAW 2 wallpapers to make your desktop all spiffy n' stuff. As everyone knows, Ubisoft's announcement of the official website is just one more step towards the March release date and we wonder how much hype there is surrounding this sequel. Are you GRAW fans even more excited for the sequel or will you be saving your pennies for this year's other blockbuster titles?

GRAW 2 multiplayer: no cover in sight

GameTrailers has posted this lengthy preview of GRAW 2 multiplayer (also available in HD). The preview highlights most of the game's multiplayer features including controllable recon drones. Like many, we watched the video waiting to hear only one thing: is there a cover system in multiplayer? Unfortunately, if there is a cover system in multiplayer, the GameTrailers preview makes no mention of it. This leads us to believe that is has been excised from multiplayer as it was in the original GRAW. There are some notable new features though, including the ability to see through a teammate's eyes using the cross com. All in all, it looks like fun, though Tom Clancy fans are likely to be disappointed by the lack of a cover system.

GRAW 2 demo: a little too short, but sweet

We just got finished playing the GRAW 2 demo, and so far we like what we see. The demo is very short, lasting maybe 20 minutes or so depending on how you play. The demo gives you a chance to eliminate a few enemies with a variety of weapons. You'll get some basic assault rifles and a spiffy sniper rifle for some shoot-through-walls action. One of the coolest new features in GRAW 2 is the ability to directly interface with any of your units. This includes your teammates, the recon drone, or the new MULE. The MULE acts as a mobile ammo dump where you can pick up new weapons and supplies. The MULE is also handy in that it's just the right size to provide necessary cover. Directly controlling the recon drone to spot enemies is a nice addition as well. The direct control also makes it easier to issue target commands to your squad.

The beginning of the demo has you going solo, but you'll pick up your three teammates near the end. Unfortunately, the demo ends soon after you join up with the rest of your squad, so you won't get to test the team dynamics too much. Still, the demo gives you pretty much what you'd expect from GRAW 2, a nice update to an already good game. Whether or not that's enough for a sequel is up to you. Go give the demo a try and tell us what you think.

GRAW 2 demo assaults Xbox Live

It was rumored to hit by the end of January, and the GRAW 2 demo just barely made it. Released today on Xbox Live Marketplace, the demo clocks in at over 600 megs, so you'd best find something to occupy your time while it downloads. We suggest Heavy Weapon. You could also digest all of our previous GRAW 2 coverage. We've started our download and will give your our impressions later today. Anyone manage to snag this massive download already? How is it so far? GRAW-tastic? Oh, and the Fuzion Frenzy 2 demo has been re-released as well, so party fans may want to check it out.

[Thanks, everyone]

GRAW II more than annual rehash

Yesterday, we showed you a video demonstration of GRAW II's single player experience. Today we're going a little more in depth. IGN Australia was given the opportunity to have a gander at Ubisoft's sequel, and put together what they thought were the top improvements over last years installment. Things definitely look promising, and Ubisoft is making sure that we're not just getting a GRAW 1.5 one year later. Details on what's been given a face lift after the break.
