Geometry Wars Galaxies coming to 360?

Gamespot has a video hands on demo of Wii/DS title, Geometry Wars Galaxies, and while it is for a competing platform, there is one thing worth bringing to your attention. During the gameplay demo, whenever the Bizarre Creations developer pauses the game, the word "Achievements" is clearly shown in the pause menu. Also worth noting is that the selection is skipped over whenever scrolling down to "Exit Game". So, the tradition may be kept alive with a new Geometry Wars game released alongside PGR4. Either that, or else the Wii version will have in-game Achievements, which may or may not be "allowed". Either way, very interesting stuff.

Bizarre wanted Geometry Wars to be free

In an interview with IGN about their upcoming game Boom Boom Rocket, Bizarre Creations' own Ben Ward revealed the true ambitions behind that uber hit Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. When asked about their experience with the XBLA and comparing the risks involved between Boom Boom and Geo Wars, Ward said that,

"Geometry Wars was really intended as a gift to hardcore gamers and we initially wanted to give the game away for free. When it became evident that we couldn't do this, we said to Microsoft "what's the absolute bare minimum we can charge". They said 400 points, so we went with that."

We have yet to find someone who has complained about paying 400 Microsoft Points for Geometry Wars, because the game is good enough to charge 1200. But how cool would it have been to get it for free? We always knew that the guys at Bizarre were good folks which makes us want Boom Boom Rocket all the more. Speaking of Boom Boom, make the jump for the complete interview where Ward discusses everything Boom Boom related. And feel free to express your disgust with Microsoft for not allowing Geometry Wars to be a free download ... long live the free content!

512MB memory card and exciting XBLA news

It looks like that silly rumor was true as Microsoft just announced a bigger memory card for the Xbox 360. The new 512MB Xbox 360 memory card will be available April 3rd, will retail for $49.99, and for a limited time will come pre-loaded with Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. Simultaneously, the ancient 64MB memory card will drop in price to $29.99 (be on the lookout for clearance prices). Also, with the announcement of the new 512MB card, the XBLA size limit will be raised from 50MB to 150MB allowing developers to run wild with their creativity. Microsoft also announced that they'll be showcasing XBLA titles Boom Boom Rocket, 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures, Eets: Chowdown, Jetpac Refuelled, and Pinball FX at GDC. Check out the full press release after the break.

So, after reading that informative spiel what is your gut reaction? We definitely agree with raising the XBLA size limit to 150MB and find the 512MB memory card to be a much better deal than the old 64MB version. And for curiosity's sake, is there anyone out there who just purchased a 64MB memory card and is kicking themselves?

It's a masterpiece! Geometry Wars inspired art

Joystiq's own Vladimir Cole jumped on the chance to purchase the above art from a charity auction held at the University of Pennsylvania. Yes, it is Geometry Wars inspired artwork and yes it is quite the beautiful piece. It seems so perfect that a game such as Geometry Wars would move an artist in such a way to create art from what essentially is video game art. We're thinking it was the trippy colors and pretty "grid effects". Good job Vlad, not only on that uber cool purchase, but for donating your hard earned blogging cash to a charitable cause. So, who's up for buying some Cloning Clyde inspired toothpick art that we created? The bidding starts at a reasonable $3,000 and all proceeds will go into our empty pockets.

Conversation with Bizarre Creations

Mike from the Xbox Domain, re-visits Geometry Wars with Bizarre Creations Community and Web Lead Ben Ward. Included in the conservation: Hints that a GW dash theme could be on the way and an unconvincing refusal to confirm the possibility of a sequel.

Geometry War without end

As we prepare to do a little -- ok, alot of street fighting this Wednesday, let's not forget the game that put Xbox Live Arcade on the map. Here's an interview with elite Geometry Warrior Trey Landry, aka BigDaddy21, currently #1 on the leaderboard with a score of 125, 261, 170. Not bad, but like Bruce Lee said, geometrical shapes don't hit back.

[Thanks Mark]

Design the next XBLA hit yourself

Have you ever played Geometry Wars and thought to yourself, "This game is a steaming pile of manure. I could design something better than this!" If so, then Microsoft wants you, Uncle Sam style (no, not your creepy uncle Sam, this Uncle Sam). Xbox Live Arcade's unprecedented success has been something of a surprise, even to Peter Moore:

"I didn't expect Live Arcade to be for gamers, I thought maybe for their girlfriends, mums and sisters -- but it's for everybody."

Games like Geometry Wars have convinced big time developers that XBLA equals easy money. Like Nintendo, it allows publishers to earn big money by selling consumers their collective childhood again. But that's not all it's good for, and Microsoft knows it. The next step for XBLA is to get some original independent content. Do you think you're up to snuff? If so, you can send your proposals to this address: arcade[AT]microsoft.com.

Finally, my game about Microsoft's evil robot minions will get some recognition.

Chileans get their 360 on

Still don't have an Xbox 360? Do you live in Chile? Then you're in luck my friend! The curvy white box hit store shelves in Chile last week, inspiring these ladies to impersonate protagonists from mediocre launch titles. Just for a moment, recall how disappointed you were when you played Perfect Dark Zero for the first time. Let that sink in for a second. That is what it's like to be a 360 fan in Chile right now. At least they have access to the best launch title, right?

Good lord, can you imagine having to wait 5 months for GRAW and Oblivion again?

Top 10 most popular XBLA titles

IGN managed to obtain the official top 10 list of most popular Xbox Live Arcade titles ranked by sales:

1. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
2. Gauntlet
3. Smash TV
4. Bejeweled II
5. Zuma
6. Bankshot Billiards
7. Outpost Kaloki
8. Mutant Storm Reloaded
9. Joust
10. Wik: Fable of Souls

We all could have guessed that Geometry Wars was going to be number one (it is their Halo after all) but it's surprising to see the relatively overpriced ($15 / 1200 Microsoft Points) Bankshot Billiards coming in as high as it does. Watch out for more $15 titles in the future; it's almost a guarantee that Street Fighter II Hyer Fighting will command a premium. How much are you willing to spend on an XBLA title?
