X3F TV -- Points>Life: Shedding Light on Secrets

Each week, X3F tips gamers to the tricks of the trade of Achievement hording in Points>Life. Every week a new achievement is unlocked to help you continue your unhealthy obsession with the Xbox 360 meta-game.

This week in Points>Life we tackle the return of Alone in the Dark. From developer Eden Games and publisher Atari, Alone in the Dark is a strange game to judge. What it does well, it does very well but major technical issues could halt your desire to progress through the survival-horror classic's revamp. Either way bad game design has never been an issue for achievement fiends and this week we uncover three secret achievements in the game.

Due to Canada Day celebrations Points>Life is hitting today rather than Tuesday. Expect Points>Life next week at its regular time.

Are you ready for some Madden 09 achievements?

Our buddies over at 360Sync have already gotten into their Fall football mindset, exclusively releasing a list of Madden NFL 09's achievements. The complete list can be viewed after the jump, but we came across a few achievement highlights including the "Steal Their Thunder" achievement for stealing your opponent's celebration (nice use of T.O.'s mug) and "Midway Monster" where you have to create a legendary player from the past. We're also mildly offended by the "Slam Dunk All-Star" where it awards 30 Gamerscore to those who "dunk the ball over the goalpost (or at least attempt to) after a touchdown." Attempt? Psht, when we go for the goalpost dunk we don't attempt, we execute with flair.

X3F TV -- Points>Life: It's About Timing

Each week, X3F tips gamers to the tricks of the trade of Achievement hording in Points>Life. Every week a new achievement is unlocked to help you continue your unhealthy obsession with the Xbox 360 meta-game.

This week in Points>Life we tackle the Matt Damon-less action shooter, The Bourne Conspiracy. Based on a modern interpretation of the books by Robert Ludlum (we think they mean the movies), you play as an amnesia struck Jason Bourne. This week's tip showcases an easy trick that utilizes a tutorial in the game to claim a cool, free, 25GP.

Impossibly new Final Fantasy achievements added

The guys over at Xbox360Achievements.org did some snooping around Xbox.com and discovered that Final Fantasy XI has received a Gamerscore boost. As if the game's achievements weren't already impossible enough to unlock (seriously, has anyone actually earned a 1000GS on this game?) Square Enix decided to add 25 more achievements, all secret because that's how they roll, totaling an additional 250 Gamerscore. The achievement additions are speculated to be due to FFXI's 2008 re-release. We feel for anyone who's actually going to white knuckle it through this game to earn these new secret achievements. We advise just staying away and saving yourself the pain and agony.

Schizoid's achievements are sploderific!

Waiting patiently for Torpex Games to announce a release date for upcoming XBLA game Schizoid has been no easy task. The game's release date is fast becoming the joke among the inner XBLA circle as we still have no clue when it'll release even though it was promised for 2007. But good news! Thanks to Achieve360Points, we have a complete list and artwork of Schizoid's achievements including the X3F named Sploderific achievement which we exclusively revealed the artwork for this past March. And, we must say, we're loving what Torpex did with the achievement art. It's visually delicious! But ... uhh, now that we have the achievements and all, uhh ... can we have Schizoid?

[Thanks, iHomer]

Bad Company achievements one-up kill count, again

When Bizarre Creations' third-person shooter The Club released its list of achievements, gamers laughed at the team's one-up of the Gears of War online kill count--months later it appears DICE wants in on the joke too. Peaking at the achievement list available at MyGamerCard, Battlefield: Bad Company includes one achievement, "Beans Bullets Bandages," that awards players 30 GS points for achieving 10,002 kills online.

While it was humorous the first time now we're just worried the achievement will become a trend.

The rest of the list includes your standard mission completition, difficulty setting points with half of the achievements dedicated to the Battlefield: Bad Company's online modes. One thing to note, for a title that was hailed as primarily a single-player focused experience, we wonder why nearly half of the achievements are multiplayer only. Battlefield: Bad Company is set to release on June 23.

TimeShift DLC adds more achievement love

Today, a second piece of downloadable content goodness has graced TimeShift, bringing with it an extra dose of achievement love as well.

Available for download for the gotta have it price of FREE are two TimeShift DLC packs called "Futures-Past" and the newly released "Urban ReDuel". And with the DLC release, TimShift received a Gamerscore bump up to 1250, adding an additional ten DLC based achievements each worth 25 Gamerscore. To recap. Free DLC, more achievements and a possible 250 Gamerscore increase. We can't complain too much.

X3F TV -- Points>Life: Fire It Up!

Each week, X3F tips gamers to the tricks of the trade of Achievement hording in Points>Life. Every week a new achievement is unlocked to help you continue your unhealthy obsession with the Xbox 360 meta-game.

This week in Points>Life my unhealthy obsession with CBS' The Unit continues as I picked up Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and was told of a glitch that made ranking up a lot easier. While a few videos have been released with this information, we've collected some of the best practices and uses for the trick in one video.

One thing we need to stress with this glitch is updating Rainbow Six Vegas 2 patches the exploit. There is a way around that, but we're not recommending that. That's what the comments are for!

Also, watch The Unit.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith achievement preview

Last night, our homies over at 360sync exclusively posted a preview of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith's achievement in all their achievement glory sans any achievement artwork though ... bummer. So far, they posted 42 of the 49 game achievements with the majority of them being pretty plain Jane, though a whopping 16 of them are secret, so there may be some originality with those. The other seven "mystery" achievements are a mystery for good reason, because they're part of 360sync's giveaway shenanigans. You see, 360sync is giving away a GH:Aero bundle and if you can guess one of the 7 mystery achievements, you'll get an extra entry into their random drawing giveaway. So, make the jump, look over the achievements, make a guess and win us yourself some Aero!

Epic to set limits on GoW2 achievement progress

During their interview with Cliffy B, the guys over at CVG learned an interesting Gears of War 2 achievement fact that will probably make "achievement whores" a bit furious. Scratch that, it will make achievement whores furious.

As it's currently planned, Epic will be "throttling" GoW2's achievements by limiting how much unlocking progress can be made per game or round. Cliffy gave an example of the unlocking system by saying that "if you're going for headshots, you get one headshot that counts and any other headshots won't count towards your Achievement" which is being done "so players don't just play to get headshots the entire round just to get Achievements." It's an interesting idea, but one we aren't sure we (or any achievement addicts for that matter) fully embrace.

X3F TV -- Points>Life: The Beginning and the End

Each week, X3F tips gamers to the tricks of the trade of Achievement hording in Points>Life. Every week a new achievement is unlocked to help you continue your unhealthy obsession with the Xbox 360 meta-game.

This week in Points>Life we're taking a stroll through memory lane and Team Rainbow's first vacation to Vegas. In Rainbow Six: Vegas there are two easy tips we can give you, the first is a simple reminder that some people may not realize and the second is a glitch in the end of the game that could save you a headache while trying to end the mission.

Both tips are classic, meaning they're old ones ... but somewhere someone is picking up this game for the first time and we're here to help!

Rumor: Achievements to rollover to Xbox 720

According to the fine folks over at CVG, the latest issue of Game Informer is reporting that the next Xbox console (which we enjoy calling the Xbox 720) will drop sometime in 2010 and bring with it a player's Xbox 360 achievements and Gamerscore. Of course, the Xbox 720 is a long, long while away and a lot can change, but word on the street is that all the hard work you're putting into achievements now won't go wasted once the 720 releases. And that should give you a warm fuzzy for the time being. Though, this shouldn't even be considered a rumor, it should be fact. We're looking you square in the eye Microsoft and demanding both achievement and Gamerscore rollovers come next, next gen. Otherwise, expect to feel the wraith of millions of angry fanboys ...
