SSFIITHDR sprite watch: Cammy & M. Bison

We always love checking out new sprites for the upcoming (deep breath) Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (whew!). Today we bring you two of the latest additions, M. Bison and Cammy. Now, we're not knocking scantily clad women in video games -- far from it -- but something about this Cammy sprite is just wrong. It's like a train wreck. We don't want to stare, but we can't look away. If you find yourself with a similar conundrum, you'd best make the jump and check out the new sprite of M. Bison.

X3F interview: SSFII Turbo HD Remix

With all the fuss surrounding Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, we decided to shoot a few questions over to the folks at Capcom Digital. Despite the gorgeous new look, there are a few concerns about the new iteration of the series. Hardcore fans are worried about how new sprites will affect years of heavy practice and study. Will the redesign render you years of hard earned skill moot? What kind of Live support will the game have? What about revisiting other franchises? We got the answers from SSFIITHDR's producer, Rey Jimenez.

Capcom community decides SSFIITHDR Achievements

Capcom Digital came forth with some very interesting news about the Achievements for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, as they are leaving the ideas up to the community. Suggestions posted in the comments section of Capcom Digital's (read: not X3F) post will be compiled, "weeded out internally," then their top ten will be posted in the forums for users to vote on. So, it sounds like there will only be one winner, though some of the common sense suggestions will possibly make it in anyway, as well as Capcom using this as feedback on general guidelines for SSFIITHDR's Achievement requirements. What are you waiting for? Go put in your two cents!

T. Hawk gets HD Remix'd, plus more remastering info

Just so you fanboys know, that shot of T. Hawk is full resolution, from Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, of course. Capcom Digital posted that image, complete with an analysis of how they remaster frames to incorporate the new artwork. They use Sagat's standing Roundhouse as an example. Rey then demonstrated how the art is broken up into tiles, and they use those as a guide for when they're redrawing the frame. This prevents a scenario causing a foot to go through an opponent's head due to a hit detection issues. A good read, and it also shows the comparison shot of T. Hawk, as well as the line art for Sagat. Go take a look!

HD Guile sprite is Super Street Fighter'tastic!

Behold, another sprite from Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix has been released all made over and it's Guile! Just look at the shading on his 100% steroid grown biceps and the subtle blending on his camo pants. Yes, the the SSFIITHDR artwork fever has touched us all as we fall in love with each HD'ified character. The only thing we question is whether the stance featured in the artwork above is humanly possible by a guy. Seriously, that's got to hurt Guile, that is unless you want to share with us your dirty little secret. More HD Guile artwork available after the jump.

How to make a hi-def SFII sprite

By now you probably know that we're pretty excited about Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. We've pored over every morsel that Capcom has doled out and we're always ready for more. Well, today is no different. The Capcom Digital blog has uploaded more images of the upcoming game (in addition to confirming that Puzzle Fighter is coming next month). The new images detail the steps that go into recreating each original sprite in high definition. Illustrated in the image above, we can see each step. Starting on the left and moving to the right, artists first take the original sprite for reference, then block out the basic shapes in the darkest colors. Next, they add details and some shading. Finally, they add the final details and BAM! you've got an HD sprite. Check out the gallery below for high resolution images of all 4 steps.

More SFII HD Remix sprite goodness: Akuma

The new Capcom Digital blog -- which exclusively covers Capcom's downloadable titles -- is open for business, and they've added yet another HD sprite from Super Street Fighter II HD Remix for Xbox Live Arcade. This time we get a look at Akuma (last week we got a peek at Ken). As an added bonus, they've included his original sprite for reference. The blog contains a brief article about the genesis of SSFIITHDR, which notes that the game's name is intentionally long and intended as a joke for long time Street Fighter fans. You can read the article by clicking the "read" link. See more images of HD Akuma after the break.

Super SFII Turbo HD: what big sprites you have!

It was recently announced by Capcom that they would be releasing a new version of Street Fighter II on Xbox Live arcade. Not only is Capcom bringing Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix to XBLA, but it is also giving the entire game an HD makeover (hence the "HD Remix" in the title). Racket Boy has gone into great detail analyzing a slide that came from the Capcom press conference discussing the game. In the image above you can see several iterations of Street Fighter sprites. On the left is the original Ryu sprite from SFII. Next to that is a sprite from Guilty Gear, the current standard bearer for high resolution 2D fighters. Next to that is a Ryu sprite from Street Fighter III, the highest resolution entry in the series. Now, you've seen what was, so what is Capcom doing for the remake?
