Molyneux okay with Fable 2 defining his legacy

After Fable 2 went gold and having some time to reflect, Lionhead's Peter Molyneux is so happy with the final product, that he's comfortable with having Fable 2 being the game that defines his "position in the industry."

"At the end of the day you can stand up in front of people and wave your arms, but unless you actually create a product, you don't deserve that attention," Molyneux told GamesIndustry.biz saying that Fable 2 "should define my position in the industry, and if it's not good, that says something about me. And if it is good, that also says something about me. I'm incredibly proud of Fable and with what the team has managed to do with it."

Awww shucks, Mr. Molyneux is not only happy with the final product Fable 2 has turned out to be, but he also isn't giving us any excuses to why it wasn't his ideal vision. We can't wait to give it a go and make our determination of Molyneux's worth. How exciting!

Molyneux: Next project is 'very different' and 'ridiculously ambitious'

With Fable 2 officially going gold a few days ago, we figured Peter Molyneux and the Lionhead crew would need to find a new project to work on. Surprisingly though, they are already working on a new project, they have been for a while now and according to Molyneux, it's going to be "ridiculously ambitious."

This new Lionhead project information comes way of GamesIndustry.biz who had a chance to chat with Molyneux to discuss what's next for his team. "We've actually been working on another project now for a while, and obviously it's ridiculously ambitious, but it's ridiculously ambitious in a very simple way," Molyneux revealed admitting that it's "different to what you might think Lionhead would do." How intriguing, no?

Just don't get too excited yet, because Molyneux made it known that he hasn't talked about the new project to anyone (how very un-Molyneux) and that the earliest we'd hear a peep out of the Lionhead pack would be sometime next year.

Molyneux makes it official, Fable 2 has gone gold!

Lionhead's Peter Molyneux just confirmed with videogamer.com that Fable 2 is officially finished, has gone gold and is ready to be pressed to disc. Congrats to all!

"We are now officially gold. It's released to manufacturing. Fable is absolutely finished and done and dusted" said Molyneux, who admitted that he and his team were all headed to the pub to celebrate their accomplishment. Again, congratulations to the Lionhead team for getting Fable 2 out the door in time for its October 21st release. We think we're going to celebrate by playing some Pub Games and hoping that Lionhead delivers with their latest Fable installment. Fingers crossed!

Fable 2 Pub Games patched, exploit fixed

Taking a bit longer than expected, Lionhead Studios recently released a patch for the Fable 2 Pub Games that not only reset the Fortunes Tower leaderboards but also FIXED the gold exploit. Yes sir, a new patch to fix what Peter Molyneux told us was an "intentional" bug that allowed players to rack up millions in gold. Eh?

So, this patch release leads us to one of two conclusions. Either Molyneux told the truth, the glitch was intentional and players will somehow be affected when playing Fable 2 OR we've been lied to, the exploit was completely unintentional and Molynuex was covering up the fact. No matter what conclusion you end up on, we won't know the truth until October.

Official Fable 2 achievements now with added 'see and unlock'!

The official list of Fable 2 achievements has just trickled its way online and if you think you're experiencing some déjà vu, you're somewhat correct.

See, back in August we posted a list of "unofficial" Fable 2 achievements that leaked their way online. Now these new achievements, they're official with official artwork AND we noticed a few differences. Don't worry though, from what we can tell no actual achievements have been added or removed since the August leak. Instead, a few descriptions have changed including our favorite of the bunch, "The Swingers", which now reads "take part in a debauched bedroom party with several participants." Nice!

The other major difference between the unofficial and official Fable 2 achievements is the added ability to unlock some achievements not by doing the action, but rather seeing someone else perform the act. Meaning that Gamerscore can be earned simply by watching a friend ("Hero") complete the task. Think of it as an achievement tag team effort.

Molyneux: Fable 2 Pub Game exploit was intentional

Fable 2 Pub Games cheaters, exploiters and evil doers, we have a special announcement for you. You've been tricked! Yup, tricked and by Lionhead themselves.

How so? Well, according to IGN and their discussion with Peter Molyneux during a recent Fable 2 hands on event, Molyneux made it clear that the Pub Games exploit was intentionally added. GASP! Molyneux goes on to warn those who cheated that they'll be in for a surprise when launching Fable 2. What sort of surprise? We dunno, but we're thinking it may have to do with that whole "good vs. evil" thing. Maybe cheaters will be jailed, lashed with a leather whip and forced to eat cabbage for seven days and seven nights. Oh we can't WAIT to see what's in store for cheaters!

Intimidating Fable II hobbe wallpapers

To celebrate your love of everything Fable 2 - especially those evil and too cute hobbes characters - it's time for a desktop wallpaper refresh. Trust us, your current wallpaper is getting old, making us want to scream "ewww!" everytime we look at it. The new Fable 2 hobbes wallpapers come courtesy of the fine folks over at Lionhead who only want to help in your wallpaper refreshing efforts and force your subconscious to be reminded that Fable 2 will be releasing this October everytime you turn on your computer. Give in already ... you know you love those hobbes.

Joystiq interviews Peter Molyneux on Fable II

Using their incredible powers of persuasion, the crafty kids at Joystiq have landed an interview with Peter Molyneux. They have also, somehow, managed to play Fable II. And now, they want to talk about it. Molyneux is happy to oblige, talking about the game's moral choices and cooperative gameplay. Molyneux also talks about Fable II's combat system and how it promotes a sense of community. The interview covers a few other topics, including Molyneux's opinion of Too Human ("Dennis Dyack is going to come and kill me now.") -- and the original Fable -- "For me, going back to Fable is a terrible experience." Head over to Joystiq for the full interview.

A rogues gallery of Fable II heroes

Lionhead has released a new batch of screenshots from the upcoming Fable II. The six screenshots serve to highlight the variety of possible heroes available to gamers in Peter Molyneux's latest opus. All told we have an evil Slash wannabe, a pirate, a gun-toting gentleman wearing a Mardi Gras mask, a pale, white-haired vixen, a sideburns-sporting, purple-coated hero and ... a man in a dress. Yes, there's quite a bit of variety possible thanks to the many clothing and style options, not to mention the many moral and social choices that alter a characters appearance. And now, thanks to Fable II's Live co-op, you can actually show off your unique hero to your friends.

Check out a hi-res versions of these images in the gallery below.

Molyneux answers gamers' questions

A while ago we tipped our readers (that's you!) about GameDaily looking for questions to ask Fable II maestro Peter Molyneux. Well kids, the time has come. The 10 Questions feature with Peter Molyneux is now online and ready to read. Molyneux fields questions about the size of the game world (about 12 times bigger), whether or not players can choose their breed of dog (nope) and whether or not he dreams about Fable II (yup). We should probably warn big Fable II fans that the piece contains no major revelations about the game, but then there really isn't much left to reveal. For example, Molyneux does not confirm any player-vs-player support in Fable II, though he does admit "It would be cool to fight against other heroes, as everyone's hero will be unique."

Yes, it would be cool, wouldn't it? Head over to GameDaily for the full feature.

Amazon lists Fable II LE for $13 less than retail

It looks like Amazon is looking to grab the attention of 360 RPG gamers, because the company is currently listing the Fable II Limited Collector's Edition for $66.99, a full $13.00 off the retail price. Our instinct is to believe it must be an incorrect listing, but the page makes it quite clear that the listed price is 16% off retail and it includes the correct October 21 release date. So, if you're looking for some Fable goodness on the cheap (don't forget that pre-ordering at Amazon also nabs you the Fable II Pub Games for free), head over to Amazon and snatch one of these babies up. If you do so successfully, be sure to mention it in the comments!

Lionhead working on patch for Pub Games exploit

Along with a few gold earning tips and tricks, Lionhead Studios has informed us (via their lovely Fable 2 development blog) that they plan on releasing a Fable 2 Pub Games patch in the near future to fix the recently discovered gold exploit. Bummer! No word on a specific release date for the game patch, so continue to exploit until your greedy heart is content. Hurry though, time is tick-tock ticking ...

Fable II Tales of Albion updated: Fall of the Heroes

The Tales of Albion, a website designed to fill gamers in on the back story of Fable II, has been updated with a new section. Entitled "Fall of the Heroes," it chronicles the journey of one young hero who has just graduated from the Heroes Guild. As the name implies, this particular section of the Tales of Albion deals with civil unrest caused by heroes after the events of the first Fable. Let's just say that the adventure embarked upon by the young hero is not a happy one. One interesting note, this section of the Tales of Albion includes screenshots of locations from the original Fable in each chapter. Here's hoping the final section, "Travels in Today's Albion," will show us how these locations have changed over the years between Fable and Fable II.

Get your new Fable II wallpaper

It may not be as exciting as, say, the actual release of Fable II, but we are required by gaming law to inform you that Lionhead has posted new Fable II wallpaper. There are four such wallpapers, three of which feature the citizens of Bowerstone or Bloodstone. Bloodstone, by the looks of it, is full of some less than savory characters, including a man sporting what appear to be rouged knees and a sign that reads "Call me Doris." Whatever you say, Doris.

Major Nelson warns: Be careful with Fable II Pub Games

By now, everyone knows that the Xbox Live Arcade title Fable II Pub Games can earn you gold in Fable II. Major Nelson has posted a warning that not only can gamers earn or lose gold with Pub Games, but that privilege is also extended to anyone within grabbing distance of your Xbox. It seems Major came home yesterday to find his wife playing some Keystone ... and over 3000 gold in debt. Currently 3650 gold in the hole, Major reminds us all to sign out of our Gamertags after Fable II gambling sessions.

We will Major, we will.
