Alright kiddies time for some sleuthing courtesy of the Gears of War Official Forums. The Gears site has a new splash page up (above) and in Marcus' hand are some Dog (Cog?) Tags. Immediately upon discovery, there was the speculation that this meant death and loss would play some larger part in the game's story. But then someone decided to take a closer look at the number sequence visible on the tag: 033-116-117-126-071.

Seemingly random right? Nope. Match those numbers with one of these ASCII tables, and you'll get yourself the following letter string: "ESC N O V 9". We'd love to beleive that this was simply thrown in there to mess with the community, but it seems to be too much of a coincidence to be something wholly meaningless. Is this an early "word" on the release date? We sure hope so.

Hit the break for a closer look at the tags.

[Thanks Laron Alexander]
Continue reading Rumor: Gears page hints GOW2 release as Nov 9

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: Leaked MS email confirms 60GB SKU, more

Well as E3 approaches, it looks Microsoft just can't keep a lid on their announcements. The lowered price on the 20GB unit has been rumored for a while now, and the idea has even been bandied about that its purpose was to clear the shelves to make room for a 60GB unit. While this of course is still waiting on some sort of official word (likely coming around or at MS's E3 press conference), a leaked email supposedly sent out to GameStop and Blockbuster company buyers seems to confirm both the new 60GB SKU as well as a "Live Starter Pack" for Arcade owners, which consists of a 60GB HDD, 3 Months of Live, a Headset, and an ethernet cable, all for $99.99.

Additionally, the email states the 20GB HDD is being phased out altogether and that the 120GB stand alone drive will receive a price cut to $149.99 (HA!). Word is that the 60GB Pro Unit will hit before the month is out and the Live Starter Pack will hit late October or early November. Whether or not the new 60GB SKU will be subject to the new price drop is unknown, but doubtful. Likely the 20GBs at $299.99 are a fire sale, and the 60GBs will still be $349.99.

The full text of the email can be found after the break.
Continue reading Rumor: Leaked MS email confirms 60GB SKU, more

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: Countdown site for next Bungie announcement

With E3 looming (looming, we say!), it's time for the rumors to start flying. Of course, we already have a fair idea of what Microsoft will announce, but what about it's biggest partner in crime, Bungie? Bungie's own Brian Jarrard and Luke Smith hinted in the most recent Bungie podcast that an announcement is forthcoming during Microsoft's Press Briefing on Monday, but the denizens of the internet may have stumbled upon something else as well. That something is 1019foxfm.net.

The website features the text "Out of the Ashes.. Soon!" along with the text seen above and a countdown that ends on July 17, the last day of E3. Bungie fans will note that all the Ts on the website have been replaced with 7s. A quick WHOIS of the website information reveals that the website is registered to FOX FM in Burlington, North Carolina (which is on the opposite coast of Bungie's headquarters in Washington). After a bit of searching, FOX FM appears to be a defunct internet radio station. And that's exactly what we're prepared to call it. Unless the folks at Bungie (or their advertising partners) were crafty enough to register with a fake name and create an internet trail of very convincing evidence (we found several MySpace pages and a broken radio stream), we're calling this coincidence.

If there is a Bungie announcement (and there is a very real chance there will be), it will be during Microsoft's Press Briefing on Monday.

[Thanks, jmurzzy911. This Halo E3 rumor mongering comes in the wake of Sarcastic Gamer's recent report, that their inside sources have also confirmed that a new Halo game will be announced at E3. Interesting stuff. Though, if a new Halo game is announced, we have a feeling it may have to do with Jackson's episodic Halo: Chronicles which hasn't received a formal on stage announcement yet. But if a totally new Halo game is announced ... that's cool too

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: Rock Band 2 setlist leak, part two

While we were already impressed by the originally leaked list of Rock Band 2 tracks, the latest leak has blown our collective minds. A thread on the Score Hero forums -- which has been locked and wiped by moderators for apparent NDA violations -- listed a new set of tracks for Rock Band 2. The listing comes from a user who claimed to have taken part in a play test of the game. It is plausable that the listing is legit due to the NDA violation discussion and subsequent moderation as well as the fact that the game is expected to be front and center at E3.

As for the list? It includes such heavy hitters as "Testify" by Rage Against the Machine, "Peace Sells" by Megadeth, "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett and so much more. Jump in for the full listing, but make sure you're sitting down ... this one could knock you off your feet!
Continue reading Rumor: Rock Band 2 setlist leak, part two

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: NG2 gets worthwhile DLC July 25?

Filed under: News, Downloads, Xbox Live Marketplace, Rumors

Thank you sharp-eyed forum posters, you may have spotted something that could mean Ninja Gaiden 2 will actually get some content worth paying for. Mentioned over at NeoGAF, and spotted somewhere on the XBL Marketplace, was the mention that NG2 will get a downloadable mission mode on the 25th of this month.

The mission mode that was in the original iteration was incredibly popular among the franchise faithful for its focus on the game's main strength: pure combat. There are of course no details on how the implementation will work, but as long as it isn't just more of the Tests of Valor (we're really tired of that environment) we'll be ready to shell out the points if this hits on the 25th. Anyone else out there spot this on the Marketplace yet?

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: Rock Band 2 setlist partially leaked

If a segment on X-Play is to be believed a partial list of Rock Band 2 tracks have been revealed. One tipster snapped a photo from the popular G4TV show that listed several tracks, identified as Rock Band 2 songs by a small "2" icon to the left of the track listing. The rumored tracks for Rock Band 2 include:

"Panic Attack" - Dream Theater (or Finger Eleven)

"Chop Suey" - System of a Down

"Give It Away" - Red Hot Chili Peppers

"Everlong" - Foo Fighters

"Kids in America" - Kim Wilde

"Ace of Spades" - Motorhead

"Hello There" - Cheap Trick

"Anyway You Want It" - Journey

"Pinball Wizard" - The Who

It's notable that "More Than a Feeling" from Boston and "All the Small Things" from Blink 182 are listed and appear to have a different identifying icon. Considering both were downloadable Rock Band content the icon could signify DLC or an originally released track. Well, the rumor mill keeps on a churning as two more sources are reporting that the price cut and 60GB 360 rumors are indeed true.

Ars technica is claiming that, according to their super secret source, Microsoft will only be cutting the 20GB Xbox 360's price to $299 because it'll be discontinued and replaced with the newer 60GB HDD model. They also claim that the new 60GB 360 will roll out to retailers sometime in July, refuting the August release claims that were previously rumored. Finally, Hollywood Reporter is jumping into the Xbox 360 rumor pit, with claims that their sources tell them that the Xbox 360 Pro price cut will in fact happen prior to E3, but no information regarding the Elite or Arcade is available.

This is how we see this playing out: The first week of July, Microsoft will announce that the Xbox 360 Pro and only the Pro will see a price cut to $299. Then, the second week of July during their E3 press conference, MS will announce a new 60GB HDD Xbox 360 console priced at $349 to replace the old 20GB model. Simple.

Source - ars technica
Source - Hollywood Reporter

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: Samsung releasing Xbox 360 TV this Fall

You remember the rumor that hit the interwebs yesterday regarding Microsoft allowing third party manufacturers to incorporate the Xbox 360 in other products? Well, today we bring you yet another rumor that piggybacks the third party manufacturer rumor which ultimately makes it a rumor based on a rumor that can't be confirmed. Confusion aside and simply put, Samsung is rumored to be releasing an Xbox 360 integrated television this Fall.

Coming from the guys over at MAXCONSOLE comes word that Samsung is developing an Xbox 360 built into a LCD television called the X-Series and will feature 4 USB ports, 512MB HDD and is set to release this November in both the US and Europe. Interesting, no? Our official take on this Xbox 360 TV rumor is that it's a quick photoshop job and is complete bologna. Especially the fact that it'll only use a 512MB HDD, because we don't think they even manufacture 512MB hard drives anymore. Pessimism is all the rage.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: 20GB 360 dropping to $299 July 6

A High-Def Digest forum member by the mysterious name of Master X has captured images that appear to reveal an upcoming price drop for the 20GB Xbox 360 Pro console. The images reportedly come from a Kmart flier for the week of July 6. According to the image, the price of the Pro will be reduced to $299, knocking the price down by a hefty $50. There is no word on how this will affect the prices of the Xbox 360 Arcade and Elite models, which currently sit at $280 and $450 respectively. The price cut makes the difference between the Pro and the Arcade (which contains no hard drive at all) a mere $20 though, so we imagine price cuts are forthcoming for all models.

Expect updates when we have more information.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in. Update: Joystiq received an official statement regarding this rumor, "Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation." Meanwhile at 4chan, posters are claiming the images were created as an intentional joke. While verification is difficult because of the Anonymous posting method of the site we're going to have to reiterate our feeling that My GamerPad looks too fake (and crappy) to be legit. Photoshopped image looks photoshopped.

A rumor that began on the 4chan message boards is lighting up the internet this evening. The rumor is fueled by two images of what is supposedly the Xbox 360's answer to the PS3 Home service. Utilizing the already rumored Avatars, My GamerPad appears to be a virtual home for the cartoon-like characters. While in a perfect world we'd like to think every rumor is true, this one seems a little too out of left field. Firstly, and let's be honest, it looks terrible. Secondly, Home has yet to release -- let alone establish itself as a viable online service. Why copy a concept that has seen more delays than Duke Nukem Forever (of course we're kidding)? If it happens to be true, and we assume it's a gag from the Photoshopping aficionados from 4Chan, we're going to go ahead and Opt Out now. Check out the My GamerPad logo after the jump.

Note: Just so we're clear, 4chan is not a trustworthy source hence our apprehension to believe this rumor. Nevertheless, it's our job to report these rumors.

[Thanks, Newson]
Continue reading Rumor: Microsoft's answer to Home? According to Geekpulp, Microsoft's appointment list is headed up by two slots for "Surprise Games" and a third slot listed simply as "Surprise Thing." We have to admit, we're really not sure what these surprise games are. We'd like to thing one could be Alan Wake -- it certainly would be a surprise to see it come out of hiding -- but we get the feeling they will be unannounced titles (Lips perhaps?). As for the surprise thing, that could be Avatars, Microsoft's answer to Nintendo's Miis.

The article also mentions an EGM rumor that Microsoft will soon begin allowing third parties to manufacture 360 hardware. In other words, companies other than Microsoft could cram 360 hardware into their products. Similar rumors were swirling around late last year, saying that a new "standard chassis system" had been created that would allow 360 hardware to be added to HDTVs. Could Microsoft be shooting for the Trojan Horse strategy of the PS3, getting consumers to buy their game console because it's built into another piece of desirable hardware (in the PS3's case, a Blu-Ray player)? Gasp! is that where the Blu-Ray 360 rumors keep coming from, a Blu-Ray player that just happens to play 360 games, too? The head reels at all the possibilities. Whatever Microsoft's new "thing" is, we're definitely intrigued.

Source - Geekpulp: Two New Microsoft Titles (and more) to be Announced at E3
Source - 1UP: Will Microsoft allow other companies to make 360s?

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: Forza 3 'core game' fits on one disc

According to the ANGRY pixel and their "inside-man", Forza Motorsport 3's rumored multiple discs are true, but that the "core game" will fit on one disc. Whatever that means ...

We're told that Indian asset developer Dhruva Interactive has been commissioned to create 3D assets for Forza 3 (they've previously worked on both Forza titles as well as PGR3 and PGR4), mentioning that they are hard at work churning out some 400 pretty racecar models. Using his insider Dhruva knowledge, the "inside-man" commented saying that "one way or the other, the core game will be shipped on a single disc. Content won't be sacrificed... fans will be pleasantly surprised for what's in store." So, we're even more confused to how many discs Forza 3 will be spread across and what content will be on each. Hopefully we won't have to disc swap mid race.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

The Beatles in licensing talks with MTV & Activision

Rumors about a possible licensing agreement that would see The Beatles join the music game revolution have been swirling and according to the Financial Times, MTV and Activision are in talks to bring the fab-four to their respective music platforms.

Citing a source familiar with the ongoing talks with representatives from The Beatles, the two rival publishers are currently attempting to woo the classic back catalog into their respective music games; Rock Band or Guitar Hero. A final deal could be "reached in a matter of weeks," believes the Financial Times. The deal, expectedly worth millions, is complicated by the fact that two different organizations own stock in The Beatles-- record label EMI owns the master recordings while Apple Corps supervises the band's business interests.

If the report is accurate, we may learn more information regarding possible Beatles music around the time E3 goes live this July.

[via GameSpot]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: COD6 goes sci-fi?

To be honest, we almost feel a bit dirty posting this rumor. The game that for all intents and purposes, is COD5, is currently still being teased, and there's already rumors about the next game? Indeed there is, thus the faintly dirty feeling. Apparently an Infinity Ward team member spoke to someone from TalkPlaystation.com and told them that the company is at work on a new sci-fi title that may or may not see reveal at E3.

With Call of Duty: World at War returning to the familiar territory of WWII, and the series' current hit staking the claim of Modern Warfare it would seem to make sense that Infinity Ward would want to jump things into the future. If this ends up being accurate (heck, they could be working on a non-COD sci-fi game too) let's hope Infinity Ward can do better than some other popular franchises that have used a futuristic setting. We can't help but get flashbacks of the ill-fated Battlefield: 2142 ...

[Via Joystiq]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: Rock Band to get Rush's 'Moving Pictures'

According to the music group Rush fansite Rush Blog, the latest issue of Game Informer mentions under its Loose Talk section that Rush and their Moving Pictures album will be seeing a Rock Band downloadable content release in the near future. And as a complete album download no less! Then again, there are only seven songs on the album, two of which ("Tom Sawyer" and "Limelight") are already available on disc or as DLC. Another interesting thing to ponder is whether or not the new (and so far rumored) Rush DLC will feature master recordings. Because, to date, all three Rush Rock Band tracks have been icky, icky covers.

[Thanks, Crypto]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: Voice of Splinter Cell axed due to ego and cash demands

In an update to their insider report about good old Michael Ironside being axed by Ubisoft as the voice actor of Sam Fisher for the upcoming Splinter Cell: Conviction, Sarcastic Gamer is reporting on the supposed reason for Ubisoft's axing ways.

According to Sarcastic Gamer's internal Conviction source, Ironside was let go because "he was getting to way too egotistical about the project and [was] extremely difficult to work with." The insider also mentioned that the other reason for the bad blood was because Ironside "was also asking for a sh*t load of money." Again, we aren't certain if these reasons are why Ironside was let go or even if Ironside has indeed been axed from Conviction seeing that Ubi hasn't said a word regarding the rumor. Lesson learned though, don't have a huge ego, don't demand lots of money and be a "yes man" and you'll get far in the voice acting business.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor: 60GB 360 coming alongside E3 price cut

Remember the rumor that a 360 price cut was imminent and that a new 360 SKU was headed our way? Trusted Reviews has taken it upon itself to speculate on exactly what the supposed new SKU will be (and this rumor didn't even come from a survey!). Specifically, Trusted Reviews believes it will be a new 360 model that includes a 60GB hard drive. Obviously, 60 gigabytes is less than the 120 gigabyte hard drive that comes with the Xbox 360 Elite, meaning that the supposed 60GB 360 would likely replace the current 20GB 360 Pro. Supposedly, the announcement is set for E3 with an actual release in early August (before August 10 according to Trusted Reviews).

The question that remains is whether the Xbox 360 Arcade would then be bundled with the 20GB hard drive or if it will remain without a hard drive. Also still up in the air is how the 60GB model would affect the possibility of a price cut. Is it possible that Microsoft will release a new SKU and offer it for a lower price than the current model? Oh, we hope so. Let's throw in cuts for the Arcade and Elite while we're at it.

[Via Joystiq]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Intellisponse Survey Rumor Roundup

'OMG Megaton' is a phrase often uttered by fanboys everywhere. Rarely, however, is it done with any sort of sincerity. After yesterday's massive leak of Intellisponse Survey info, we think it's safe to use the phrase with complete and utter confidence: OMG MEGATON!!!!111LOLZ1! Seriously, there is so much information being disseminated that people are actually starting to mock up fake survey pages in an attempt to grab the spotlight. Here we have gathered up all the rumors -- they are just that, by the way: rumors -- that we've posted so far as well as some that Joystiq posted while we foolishly slept.

Of particular interest, note the video above, which reportedly comes from an as yet unreleased Silicon Knights game entitled Crucible: The Evil Within. Looks like Too Human set in a more traditional fantasy realm, which is an idea we fully support.
While the "Lips" rumor has been circulating the tubes for some time now it was never really known exactly what the thing was. A game? A peripheral? A female fashion accessory? We just weren't sure. To go with the pair of mics that are included in the default package, the game itself will have 30 songs right out of the box and features the ability to import music from a CD or Ipod to sing along with. To help with that, the game somehow reduces the vocals of the imported songs, and includes a way to place the lyrics of the songs on-screen a la "normal" karaoke.

This is MS we're talking about here, so there is of course a healthy DLC component to the thing too. Lips is also going to have "hundreds of music videos" available for download to ensure that MS sees its fair share of continuing profits. However the likelihood of people paying for them, given the ability to import their own songs, is rather doubtful.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
