So, no Xbox Live demo experience. Most interesting though is the fact that the FaceBreaker demo will include EA's Game Face tech allowing players to Vision camera their face into the game. And already, we're jealous we can't attend.

Microsoft will have a booth setup on the floor where everyone can get a chance to play Too Human and Ninja Gaiden II, where also on Saturday, July 26th from 2:00-2:45PM the Cliff Bleszinski and GoW2 lead writer Joshua Ortega will be signing Gears posters. Later on Saturday, from 3:30-4:30PM, team Epic will be holding a "Gears of War" Showcase Panel where Bleszinski, Ortega and Karen Traviss will discuss all things Gears and give an exclusive preview of the vehicles and weapons that'll grace Gears 2 come this Fall. NECA will also be on hand selling an exclusive Carmine figure, previewing the General RAAM figure and there will be other Gears comic and novel goodness all over.

2008 is the year Gears of War 2 takes over Comic-Con and, depressingly, we can't attend. Though, MS does promise to "Bring it Home" via Xbox Live, so that should help our Gears 2 needs. "I feel sorry for Denis Dyack because you know, I think a few things were said wrong, there was that really unfortunate showing at E3 a few years ago" Molyneux continued, saying that "everyone got on the bandwagon of saying things about Too Human." Peter then threw his support behind Too Human saying that "it's a good game" admitting that "it doesn't deserve a lot of that harsh criticism."

A perfect example of how developers have to stick together if they want to survive in the industry. Let's go off-topic for a moment. Watchmen is probably one of the greatest graphic novels ever created and the film looks totally rad. From director Zack Snyder, the guy who directed the film adaptation of Frank Miller's 300, and partially penned by David Hayter, of Metal Gear fame, it looks like it's going to be one helluva flick.

The problem with creating a great movie is that, inevitably, someone will want to create a game based on it. Variety is reporting that Watchmen is no exception to this rule but the game based on the film (based on the graphic novel) is taking a different approach. Warner Bros. has announced it will release two downloadable episodic games on Xbox Live, PC and PSN to coincide with the theatrical and DVD releases of the film.

Developed by Deadline Games, which is currently working on Faith and a .45, we don't know much about the content of the games but we hope a smaller game will work out better than licensed titles of the past. We also hope for world peace and an end to fanboy flame wars -- guess how that's going so far?

[via Joystiq]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Games for Windows Live goes free

This topic sure to be a hotbed of commenting action. Yesterday Microsoft announced that Games for Windows Live, the PC-based equivalent of the Xbox Live service, has changed to a completely free business model. After a lukewarm launch against PC service powerhouse Steam the Games for Live service has ended the Gold/Silver distinction for PC gamers that Xbox Live subscribers are subjected to. Changing to a free model means gamers can compete in cross-platform gaming (where applicable) at no additional charge. The question now remains, does this move signify a a change that must be made to the Xbox Live structure or are the services two completely different beasts. Consider, only a handful of games and features exist on the PC side of Live and with strong competition from other free services it's a move Microsoft had no choice but to make to survive. So, what are your thoughts on Games for Windows Live going free?

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in. Welcome to yet another Wednesday XBLA update. This week the Arcade gets Go! Go! Break Steady and the revamped classic 1942: Joint Strike. Each clocking in at 800MS points both are now available for download from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Go! Go! Break Steady is a rhythm title that sports 30 levels of break dancing action alone or with up to one other player over Xbox Live. 1942: Joint Strike brings the classic shooter into a 3D environment as you maneuver WWII-era aircrafts and take on huge waves of incoming enemy fire which can be played cooperatively over Xbox Live. Check them out today!

Raise your hands, don't be shy. Hmmm, more than we would've thought. Those familiar with the tale should remember the island of Lilliput (and its rival) which was the home of, well, tiny people. A Kingdom for Keflings is rather similar in concept: you're a giant among insects (so to speak). From there the game concept adds in some dashes of SimCity and Black & White, as the goal is simply to build a city and castle as well as attract more Keflings.

While coming to us from the same devs who did Band of Bugs, A Kingdom for Keflings looks like it's doing things that we've all seen before. Hopefully Ninja Bee will find the sweet spot of city-building, avatar control, and simply watching the simulation play itself out, so that the game doesn't simply tread old ground.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Footage of Shred Nebula

So after some delays to the project's release, Shred Nebula is finally getting some of its marketing going. With so many twin stick shooters out these days most gamers (understandably) have some reservations about playing more games like them. While it isn't exactly the same as playing the game, videos of gameplay definitely give a much better idea of what the game is really about than just descriptions and screen shots. So for those out there who are looking for something a little more than just words and static images, check the video. To our eyes it looks like s more substantial and traditional take on Geometry Wars and Phoenix. Microsoft has revealed the marketing and pricing plans for its Xbox Live Community Games program, which is expected to launch in some public form this holiday season in North America and select European markets.

Microsoft has set three tiers of pricing for XNA developed titles, games may cost 200MS points ($2.50) for titles 50MB or less and 400 ($5) or 800MS points ($10) for titles that weigh in at a maximum of 150MB.

Microsoft is set to share up to 70% of profits from any XNA developed title. Microsoft has also revealed plans to help promote the more successful titles on the service. "If we help you sell an absolute ton of these, it's going to be up towards 30% [more of your total revenue]," Microsoft chief technology officer Chris Satchell told MTV Multiplayer. "If it's not doing so well, down towards 10%."

As Shacknews described, developers who choose to distribute titles via the Xbox Live Marketplace will not be able to opt out of royalty-cutting promotions. Creators must first agree to a common set of terms when adding a game to the service and, According to Microsoft, "the majority of sales and revenue a creator earns will be generated by our promotions."

Unfortunately, XNA Community Games will not include achievements and the service is structured so no game may be released for free, but we assume we'll see demos for each title.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Too secret Too Human achievements

Today, in achievement news, the fellas over at 360Sync were able to score a list of all 50 Too Human achievements including descriptions, Gamerscore values and achievements artwork. But now, thanks to UK retailer Play.com's £30.00 Xbox 360 20GB price cut, rumors are swirling that Microsoft will be making the same price cut and 60GB Xbox 360 announcements for European territories. An announcement that is speculated to happen during the Leipzig Game Convention this August.

Even though MS has already addressed this European price cut rumor saying that the Play.com's pricing has "nothing to do with us," we're optimistic our European fanboys will join in on the North American console restructuring. Because receiving cheaper 20GB HDD models and some newer 60GB HDD Xbox 360s is way, way cool.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Remedy: Alan Wake NOT confirmed for TGS

Last week, news surfaced surrounding a MSN Games sponsored promotion from 2007 that promised one lucky winner their digital likeness in an Alan Wake demo that was set to premier during the 2008 Tokyo Game Show. This of course nearly confirmed that a new Alan Wake trailer or demo would be shown at this year's TGS ... or so we thought.

The Remedy development team just confirmed via the official Alan Wake forums that the "promotion referring to TGS took place in 2007, and is old news" meaning that the MSN Games promotion "was not an announcement that Wake would be shown at TGS 2008." A statement that isn't a flat out denial that the game will make an appearance at TGS, but it's far from confirmation that we'll see anything Alan Wake later this year. And we were starting to actually buy into the idea that Alan Wake wasn't total vaporware. Humph.

[Via CVG]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

NIN and Shinedown become Rock Band DLC

Filed under: News, Xbox Live Marketplace
Just as promised, brand new Rock Band downloadable content has just arrived on the XBLM this morning, adding five new tracks to the ever expanding library of DLC downloads. But, since then, we've been informed by the Capcom peeps that a beta patch wouldn't be released due to various time and money constraints. The no-patch announcement made us uncontrollably cry for a few days, but we had not choice but to accept Capcom's decision. Well fanboys, now it sounds like the Capcom crew is changing their minds once again, because yesterday producer Jimenez confirmed via the Capcom Blog that they are indeed working on a beta patch that promises the "overall experience in the beta will be vastly improved". Patch specifics including its release will be coming soon and we hope soon means relatively soon. Because August 20th and the beta's end is quickly approaching.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Confirmed! See you at Gamestop!

Both Gamernode (with their insider's email) and The Wire are reporting that this Friday, July 25th after closing, Gamestop stores nationwide will be hosting Gears of War 2 "After Dark" events. At the events - which are said to be similar to the original GoW After Dark events held back in October 2006 - they will be airing an exclusive video clip where Cliff Bleszinski introduces some never before seen Gears of War 2 footage. We're also hearing that following the exclusive video, each store will be holding a quick 1v1 Gears of War tournament where winners will be awarded Microsoft points for their fragging efforts.

Sadly, we have yet to find mention of the rumored Friday After Dark events on Gamestop.com so, for the time being, we'll plop a fat rumor tag on this news and patiently await word from Gamestop regarding the rumor. Our fingers are double crossed in hopes that we have a Gears 2 event to attend later this week.

Source - GoW2 After Dark event email
Source - GoW2 After Dark event details

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

XBLA DLC this Wednesday: N+ and Puzzle Quest

Filed under: News, Xbox Live Arcade

They've both been quite some time in coming, and this Wednesday will see the release of new downloadable content for games that are themselves downloadable. N+ will be getting a new level pack which contains 150 single player levels, and 50 co-op levels, all for 200pts (which, as the devs point out, equates to a point per level). As for Puzzle Quest, its player named DLC, Revenge of the Plague Lord, will contain 4 new classes, a new map area, 25 new quests, 40 more items and a raise of the level cap. The Puzzle Quest expansion will be priced at 700pts.

[Source N+]
[Source Puzzle Quest]

Permalink | Email this | Comments
