Talking with Videogamer, Microsoft head of the UK gaming and entertainment division Stephen McGill made it clear that the Xbox 360 will not be seeing a hardware price cut for years and years to come.
"I'm not going to speculate where [the price] might go in five or ten years time" said McGill, adding that "I'm not dropping the price for many, many years in the future." His pricing comment comes after the 360 has received quite the significant price cut in most every region. And at $199 for an Xbox 360 Arcade in the U.S., we'd say we a price cut isn't all that necessary. Though, we wouldn't complain if Microsoft wanted to go down to $149 or $99.

I'm sure this is just a move to make people buy once this Christmas instead of waiting for another price cut. It seems like the second a system comes out half the people out there are waiting for one.

Isn't $199 the magic number of mass adaptation?
The holiday sales shall tell.

The arcade is cheap enough, but the add-ons . . . Way to expensive. So expense that I won't buy any MS add-ons for many, many years to come.

I really want a 60/120GB HDD... But don't want to pay about £80 for 120.

Which is why $199 really isn't the real # for real gamers IMO....it's much much more....but it will help them in the general scheme of things (mass market appeal)

Well, 199$ for the Arcade and even 299$ for the Pro are really good prices for this gen consoles. However, you have to think about the Wireless dongle at 99$ if your house isn't wired, you still have just a DVD player in there (quite noisy too) and the Arcade has no Hard drive.
I think they should either give the Wireless dongle with the Pro or integrate it. That extra 99$ should not be there but for wireless capability.

"It's like, how much more inexpensive could this be? and the answer is none. None more inexpensive."
With apologies to Nigel Tufnel.
