In an interview with gamesindustry.biz, Bungie's Brian Jarrard made it known that once
Halo 3: Recon is complete, the team creating it is moving on to new projects that are
not related to
Halo. Jarrard stated that there are some map packs on the way, including the
Halo 3 Mythic map pack as well as maps associated with
Halo 3: Recon, but that the team will move on once the project is complete. According to Jarrard, part of the
Recon team will move on to new projects, while others will be moved onto projects already in the works.
Of course, we don't know what any of those secret projects are, so we can't rule
Halo out entirely, though Jarrard's words seem to imply that they aren't related to
Halo. We'll just have to wait and see. The full interview also includes tidbits on Bungie's community building philosophy, the studio's independence, and how the company feels about the
NXE. Hit the source link to check it out.

Indeed. I'm positive they said the exact same thing after Halo3.
Personally, I don't care what their next project is as long as it's good.

In case people don't understand this, Bungie is saying that no one on the small team working on Halo 3: Recon will work on a new Halo game. He is not saying Bungie will not make a new Halo game, he is simply saying that the people currently working on Halo 3: Recon will not be part of its development.

Surely, someone at Bungie has to continue to work on some Halo stuff...they can't leave us hanging with the Legendary ending of Halo3!!!...UNLESS there is some sort of tie in to Recon. Wait, that's a bit of a stretch, isn't it?

I have a feeling that Bungie will never continue the Halo story past Halo 3's Legendary ending. :( It's up to MS and it's developers like Gearbox to do it now.

I just want Halo 1 & 2 redone, improve the level designs & story telling.. throw in co op over Live.. Halo Legacy.. call it that? 2 discs, 1000pts available in each in the campaigns.. I'll buy them.. Leave all the competitive for Halo 3,
there's always prequels with the other spartans.. and other gameplay styles to fill out the universe.. stealth, rainbow 6 style, gears style.. crossing paths with a young John 117..
