Earlier in the week, rumor spread quickly across the internets regarding Microsoft's supposed plans to hold a five hour long New Xbox Experience relaunch event aired on G4 TV. An event that would celebrate the rollout of the Fall update, usher in free games, new game announcements and excitement galore. Well, that was total balderdash. Fake, fake, fake!
G4's own Adam Sessler confirmed the fact that the network and Microsoft have no plans for an event later this month, going as far as to dedicate his latest episode of "Sessler's Soapbox" to the topic specifically (vid after the break). Sessler not only denies the baseless (but totally awesome) rumor, but goes on to discuss politics and how irresponsible the media can be by not investigating or looking for answers. Damn the media. We always disliked those media folks.

I had a feeling it was way too good to be true. Maybe MS should look into at least some of what got everyone excited by this Hoax. Namely Conker.

Leftist politics? Please point out where...he mentioned rumors about both candidates, not just one. But then again, some people only hear what they want to hear...

Jedimonkey,
There's a slight difference between the way he address the rumors. He characterized the Obama rumor as just not true (because he is not a Muslim), but Sessler didn't go into anything about the Africa-first black church that Obama belongs to.
With Palin, he mentioned the rumor that she had a specific list of books to ban, and then pointed out that the rumor was false because she had no specific banned list, just a general desire to remove books from the library.
While it may be true the Palin generally inquired about removing books from the library, it also may be true that Obama belongs to a radical church bent on the destruction of American democracy. Mentioning one but not the other. That's the lefty politics.

There's alot worse thing he could have said about Palin...
1.) Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.
2.) She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.
3.) Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.
4.) She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.
5.) She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as a threatened species-she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.
So him mentioning that she INQUIRED about how to get books banned, is not the same thing as Obama belonging to a church as you put it "bent on the destruction of democracy". For starters, the Palin book-banning inquiry happened. Have you been to the church that Obama attended? I know I haven't so I'm not goingto say what goes on behind those doors. I have however seen the emails where ignorant Republicans claim that he is Muslim because of his name. Which has been stated time and time again, even by Fox News (fair and balanced because we tell you it is), which would tell me some folks are scared of a little change.
In conclusion...you're never going to find a journalist that does not reference POLITICS (notice I didn't specify which side) at all, especially this close to an election. If you're that afraid of seeing another sides view, well my friend, you need to get out more.

Jedi,
First, he is a Muslim, technically. His father was one, so he was one. And, according to the faith, you cannot renounce being a Muslim. So, it's accurate to call him a Muslim (although he does not practice any Muslim beliefs).
Second, Palin never tried to get books banned. She may have asked about removing them from the public library. There is a difference between removing them from the library and banning them. Borders can still sell them, and people can still own them.
Third, I like how you state that you weren't at his church, so you won't comment on what went on there. But you are fine commenting on what went on at the City Council meeting where Palin allegedly tried to ban the books, even though you weren't there, either.
Thanks.

Captain Obvious,
Just because his father was Muslim doesn't mean he is as well. I'm Muslim so I know what my faith is about.
As for what the Islam faith says, let me give you an example to help understand: My uncle is a Muslim that married a Christian. They had a daughter and divorced and now have joined custody. Even though he is Muslim, he told his daughter that she can choose the faith she wants.
So for the freaking last time, Obama is not Muslim! Even if he was Muslim, if that's the reason why you are not supporting him then that hurts me personally. Not just because I'm a Muslim, but also because I don't judge people by their faith but by their character. Its sad to think that in 2009 we still have people thinking like this. *sigh*

So G4 has no plans, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to the rumors. Microsoft gave a "no comment" instead of a denial.

Microsoft doesn't comment on rumours and speculation.
Sessler says as much in the video.
It's been their practice for a while. I believe Major Nelson has gone into the specifics of why they don't.
I believe a summary of why they don't would be, "Because then they'd get nothing done because they'd be spending all their time denying idiotic rumours all day."
Regardless, given that one of the main premises of this rumour was that it was going to be on G4, the fact that G4 have flat out denied it ought to tell you something very important about this rumour... If you still believe then there's no hope for you.

First of all, it's "balderdash", not "boulderdash".
Also, there's a word or two missing from the first line of the second paragraph. "... confirmed fact their network and Microsoft have ..." just doesn't make any sense.
Love your site and posts, but you guys REALLY need an editor!

i agree completely with the OP. grammar and spelling are crucial on the internets when involved in "journalism" which is what these guys rightfully claim they are.

Well no shit its fake. I can't believe everybody got so hyped up over a random post on a forum by some unknown random guy.
PS3 is re-launching: 200gb blue disc for every PS3 game in 2009, 12 new original PS1 classics remade for PS3, 3 PS1+3 PS2 games for free, a PS2 backwards compatibility update for non BC PS3's, and a partnership with itunes.
You see how easy it is to make up such bullshit?
I never got hyped being a former PS3 only owner, i've learned to over hype nothing until I play it or its 100% confirmed.

I wasn't buying it when a release of a fall Xbox related update was to happen before the middle of November.
My gut keeps telling me the first week of December but would LOVE to be wrong. I look forward to the change as my dashboard has been really slow lately.
