Gamasutra reports that Microsoft has generated $240 million in XBLM revenue since 2005 with $180 million of that revenue being made in the last 12 months. It was also revealed that games with DLC that releases within a 30 day "sweet spot" see an additional $21 million in retail revenue. Feel the cash generating power of the XBLM and Xbox Live subscribers' drunken Microsoft points spending rituals. Drunken MS point spending that accounts for an estimated 40% of all XBLM purchases*.
*Drunken XBLM purchase statistics are totally made up, but are based on personal and witnessed experiences.

Wow, I figured that DLC was probably a good overall profit for Microsoft but $240 Million? Holy crap! I've contributed about....50 bucks. Hooray!

Ah, I have to read it more carefully. Revenue, not profit. While profit is still high, those figures are not factoring in cost of development. That probably brings the profit levels back into the realm of "wow" instead of "holy crap".

I have about 33 or 34 XBLA games, so I know I've added to that. I know a huge portion of that $180 million has got to be from Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

I know that I've contributed at least a couple hundred dollars already in movies and games. It's so easy to spend it when it's converted to MS points.

I for one have made a few Point purchases/downloads while intoxicated. Its interesting the next day when I wonder when I downloaded that episode of Firefly. I wish there was a way to lock out purchases during certain hours on certain days. That would save me some coin...

OK, here's how it works. Unless you are ineligible to win any of those Play&Win sweeps that Microsoft runs, mail in as many entries as you can afford. I've gotten 17,000 points so far this year from one big win last year and another one that just arrived. Due to being picky (and I don't drink) I've still got 13,000 points or so to go through...

Just for comparison, The Dark Knight has already made $400 Million.
So Microsoft pay attention: Batman + Joker + Two Face = $$$

That seems like a lot until you realize that Halo 3 by itself made that same amount of revenue in a few days...
XBLA gets overlooked way too often. There are a bunch of great games that are also very cheap. Yet the retail games still bring in 100 times the revenue. There are probably 20 retail games that have sold over a million on 360, but only a couple that have done the same on XBLA. Aegis Wing should be the #1 selling xbox 360 game since it's free.
Maybe the new Xbox experience will encourage more people to get into the whole digital content thing.

Yup, I second that. And now they're ramping the prices up even more...
Puzzle Quest DLC: 750 MSP
Ticket To Ride DLC: 600 MSP
Braid: 1200 MSP
I can stand only so much blatant greed a month, and MS has just hit that quota with me. Maybe, just maybe I'll get Bionic Commando, but that's it. I fear Castle Crashers will be 1800 (as rumored) and that's WAYYYYYYYY too much for just a couple handful bits'n'bytes.
