Over at the Evil Avatar forums, the news was posted that David "Solid Snake" Hayter is currently in talks with Warner Bros. to write a movie based on, of all things, Lost Planet. While we shouldn't forget that Hayter does have writing expierience, (X-Men 1 & 2) we just can't imagine that there's enough meat on a Capcpm third-person-shooter's bones to actually flesh things out into a feature film. Plus, if this ends up getting off the ground, what kind of significance will the IP have by the time the movie is actually released? Oh well, in Solid Snake we trust.

The Lost Planet story is plenty good enough for a movie. It was in my top 5 for 2007.

They already did a Lost Planet movie, it was the basically the first part of Empire Strikes Back.
I keed.
It could be good, it's just that unless there is a sequel or something to keep the IP in the public mindset over the next 18+ months, it could lose some relevance.

Good marketing, no argument there...
But I have to wonder, if the product (in this case a film based on a video game/series) would be better served without such strong attachments to a well established license, rather actually do the work for what would be the next game in the series. Then, letting the series pick up from there, with the film taking on the full weight of the normal timed cash-in products that accompany most higher profile media releases on it's own. Of course, ample development time and funds would be a necessity...
Not that I don't want Lost Planet 2. Of course I do, Colonies just isn't enough to sate my desires for what could and should be the best game on Xbox LIVE!

They already have an actor for the main character as well:

Lost Planet definitely has a good backstory, could turn out cool if true.
