Late last month, Bungie announced that Ranked Big Team Battle was on its last legs in Halo 3. It was then revealed that Bungie would be removing restrictions and doubling EXP for the playlist for the entire month of June. If the performance -- i.e. the number of regular players -- doesn't increase, the playlist could be removed altogether in July. Good news, Big Team fans, so far it looks like the EXP boost and restriction lift are working. Bungie's Luke Smith announced on the new Bungie Blog that there has been steady growth in the playlist's population. The post doesn't come out and say that the playlist has been saved, but things are definitely looking up.

I'd play it more if it was reliable... lag wise...

Thirded...not to mention the often unbearable wait times to get a full playlist

yeah i am only a level 22 in ranked big team and i get matched against generals. it really seems like the higher ranks of my opponents, the worse the lag for everyone.....

Probably because the only people that can get Generals are those that are on the cheapest broadband available. ;)
On a side note, does the leveling system seem weird to anyone else? Playing in a party of friends (probably played us, we all go around with pokeballs :P) all around the same level it takes 4 or 6 games to go up just one level for some of us despite us winning 8 out of 10 games and most of going positive K/D spread and scoring flags and what not.

actually, things like +K/D ratio, headshots, flags, etc. have no effect on the leveling system. it's all about wins and the rank of your opponents. basically, if you win against opponents ranked higher than you, you'll move up quicker. lose to opponents ranked lower than you'll, and you'll go down quicker.
the same applies if higher or lower ranked players are on your team. that would be why you come across a 48 partnered with a 7 in team doubles sometimes...the 48 is boosting him up.
it's actually much more complicated than that, but someone correct me if i'm way off base here...there is a pretty detailed explanation here though if you're interested: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=14414600

It would help if they fixed not only the lag but the annoying inconsistencies as seen in the WTF . Plasma grenades just disappearing after sticking to people, sniper rounds going straight through peoples heads but not killing them.

You know, if they hadn't had push to talk in Big Team Battle and had it on the ranked playlist at launch my buddies and I may have played it for longer than one week (which was more than enough time to leisurely grab all the achievements).

The big problem is the ranking system. Players with a "Highest Rank Achieved" above forty overpopulate the lower ranks of Ranked Big Team. The odds of a fair game are just better in Big Team Social. I think Bungie should assign a higher rank to really great players for all ranked play lists.
