WRUP: Ninja glory edition

Let's take a moment to be personal. We've made no secret of the fact that we're
Ninja Gaiden fanboys (this blogger in particular), so when we ask you what you will be playing this weekend, we hope your answer is
Ninja Gaiden II. Five levels into the game thus far, it hasn't disappointed. We totally understand if
Ninja Gaiden isn't your thing (we hear
GRID is supposed to be pretty good), but action fans really should look into it.
So, what
will you be playing this weekend?

GTA IV and Rock Band. You know, the usuals. Gotta finish up GTA before MGS drops next week!
Probably some House of the Dead for Wii too, now that I finally scored a couple of those sweet ass Perfect Shot guns.

Yup, ninja glory edition indeed. I've only had time to play the first two chapters so far. Awesome action, amazing and insane moves list for each weapon, and lots of fun.
That being said, I do have one complaint. There are so many enemies at once that one hardly has the time to execute most of the great moves that are available. It seems to me the gameplay has been reduced to slash a bit 'til you chop something off, obliterate, rinse and repeat. Don't get me wrong, the new elements are awesome. But given the number of enemies and cheap shots (flaming arrows from nowhere anyone?) I feel I can't get the most out of it.
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to try harder =)

I especially hate the bats either in chapter 3 or 4, Oh, and those damn dogs with swords... SO annoying.

Right, those damn dogs. I couldn't believe how easily they handed my ass to me the first few times.

Ninja Gaiden 2 has the same unfortunate issues that Halo 3 had when it went next-gen - the ridiculous increase in the number of enemies in each battle completely destroyed the perfect mechanics from the previous game. Instead of careful timing and detailed battle plans, Ninja Gaiden 2 degenerated down to rampant UT spams, dial-a-combos, and mashing Y over and over to obliterate everything. It's tedious, repetitive, and no fun... just like Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword.
At least Halo 3 had a decent multiplayer mode to make up for the ruined campaign. I'm tempted to sell Ninja Gaiden 2 right now and go back to playing the more cerebral (and highly superior) Ninja Gaiden Black.

Except for the lack of blind-fire and the unskippable cut-scenes. That shit sucks.
The rest is pretty damn fun though.
