Okay, we've had some time to collect ourselves after watching the new
Gears of War 2 gameplay video (hyperventilation FTL) and decided to analyze the crap out of it. Posted after the break, we compiled a rather complete list of new
GoW2 facts, tidbits and information we discovered after giving the latest video a good watching analysis. And wouldn't you know, we actually learned a lot! Click
towards the break to view our list and feel free to comment telling us if we missed something. We have a feeling we're going to love chainsaw duels.
- Things Learned From Gears of War 2 Gameplay Trailer
- The Locust now have the ability to sink entire cities with giant emergence holes.
- To defend against the Locust onslaught, the COG transport vehicles called Derricks bring tunnel machines called Grind Lifts to Locust occupied areas. Underground combat ensues.
- Campaign level act one, chapter three is named "Assault".
- Reavers are back for GoW2 and they are trouble.
- Both the cover system and active reload look to stay true to their Gears roots.
- Overall combat is much more open and expansive, it truly looks like you're in the middle of a war.
- Brumaks are back and yes, you will be gunning them down. Take that Gears of War PC!
- The ability to generate hundreds of Locusts on screen looks (as we expected) to be used to set the mood of the battle and make it more frantic. Think of these hundreds of Locusts as interactive decoration.
- We're introduced to a new Lancer style weapon that shoots ammo in bursts.
- We're also introduced to a new pistol weapon that sort of looks like Halo 3's Brute Spiker.
- When a Locust falls to his knees you'll be able to use him as hostage cover.
- Locust neck snapping is now an option.
- They've added a new chainsaw animation that was seen in the teaser trailer. Basically, the chainsaw is flipped over, stuck into a Locust's back and is forced up vertically through the torso. Bloody disgusting.
- Chainsaw duels are real! The chainsaw victor is the one who can press "B" the fastest in the mini game.
- Assault Derricks pack a lot of firepower and do a pretty good job at running over Brumaks.
- Gears of War 2 is going to be incredible!

Awesome! I just hope there is more to the story and not as boring as the first game.
Another thing. For some reason I really want to know why Carmine is wearing a helmet. Is there anything special about that helmet?

I think the new rifle is actually a revamped Hammerburst from the first game and the pistol is the weapon mentioned in the Game Informer article. Gamevideos has their own analysis of the trailer as well: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/18777

The same shady grey type atmosphere, a poor evolving story and just some more misshaped uglies to shoot to at... yaay gow2, pfff, don't waste your money on mindless ish. The only thing going for the game is that is seemed to create a sense of panic/overwhelming moments. However that is one scene, it is likely it will return to the usually ugly new system of duck and shoot blindly, ugh garbage.

If you noticed to check his profile, he posts on the Wii site.
Your PS3 bashing is lame, your assumption of him being a PS3 fanboy is lame, and you're no better than he is. Therefore, you are lame.
But yes, Gears 2 looks like it'll sell real good. As for the actual game, can't judge that until it is released. Based on the video posted, it honestly doesn't look much different than the first Gears game.

Vair, exactly what I'm saying. Im not a fanboy of anything, I just like games, but I love games that have some substance rather than how much offensive stuff and blood can we cram into it. Who knows, perhaps later videos will shed some light and maybe there will be a story with good acting behind it, but I'm doubtful >.>

Aren't sequels great, you don't have to spend much time coding the engine and can focus totally on the story and missions... yeay for sequels.

Looks great, GoW is the only game that I would buy a 360 for.
Yes that does mean I have a PS3, but I've played GoW and I liked it. Who knows, maybe I'll snatch a 360 up for GoW 2.

Dustin said "We're introduced to a new Lancer style weapon that shoots ammo in bursts". It looked more like an automatic lancer shotgun to me.
