Okay, we've had some time to collect ourselves after watching the new
Gears of War 2 gameplay video (hyperventilation FTL) and decided to analyze the crap out of it. Posted after the break, we compiled a rather complete list of new
GoW2 facts, tidbits and information we discovered after giving the latest video a good watching analysis. And wouldn't you know, we actually learned a lot! Click
towards the break to view our list and feel free to comment telling us if we missed something. We have a feeling we're going to love chainsaw duels.
- Things Learned From Gears of War 2 Gameplay Trailer
- The Locust now have the ability to sink entire cities with giant emergence holes.
- To defend against the Locust onslaught, the COG transport vehicles called Derricks bring tunnel machines called Grind Lifts to Locust occupied areas. Underground combat ensues.
- Campaign level act one, chapter three is named "Assault".
- Reavers are back for GoW2 and they are trouble.
- Both the cover system and active reload look to stay true to their Gears roots.
- Overall combat is much more open and expansive, it truly looks like you're in the middle of a war.
- Brumaks are back and yes, you will be gunning them down. Take that Gears of War PC!
- The ability to generate hundreds of Locusts on screen looks (as we expected) to be used to set the mood of the battle and make it more frantic. Think of these hundreds of Locusts as interactive decoration.
- We're introduced to a new Lancer style weapon that shoots ammo in bursts.
- We're also introduced to a new pistol weapon that sort of looks like Halo 3's Brute Spiker.
- When a Locust falls to his knees you'll be able to use him as hostage cover.
- Locust neck snapping is now an option.
- They've added a new chainsaw animation that was seen in the teaser trailer. Basically, the chainsaw is flipped over, stuck into a Locust's back and is forced up vertically through the torso. Bloody disgusting.
- Chainsaw duels are real! The chainsaw victor is the one who can press "B" the fastest in the mini game.
- Assault Derricks pack a lot of firepower and do a pretty good job at running over Brumaks.
- Gears of War 2 is going to be incredible!

Yawnfest, does not look much different from the last Gears 1.
I'm looking forward to Resistance 2, the gameplay I say for that outclasses this 10fold.

Resistance 2 looks cool and I would certainly like to play it when it comes out, but honestly if this 3 minute trailer of one stage in GoW2 lets you decide on what the game has to offer in its entirety, then I don't know what Resistance 2 information you're getting. Apparently more than anyone else.
The same complaint could easily be put towards that game, aside from maybe the basic info of the "mini-battles" in the 60 man fights.
Either way, when you come to a 360 site, dis a game for it and then talk about how great a game that won't even be on the 360 is, it's extremely hard to take your comment at face value to begin with. So I'm not sure why I'm even bothering.

are you effin crazy, resistance 1 was shite.
no matter how many people can play at once it can't be much better. 60 people playing a poor game, is still a poor game.
insomniac should stick to platformers

i don't know if anyone noticed, but the neck snappin doesn't seem to be an action that you can do by pressing a button. looks like it's just an animation that you initiate by walking to that ledge (maybe its only in this level?)

I thoroughly enjoyed GOW as a casual fan of the franchise but I think this is going to be much better for both hardcore and "softcore" fans alike.

this looks the same as first one, which is fine by me because it pwned my balls and if it aint broke dont fix it. im interested in multiplayer. hopefully they throw in a party system. gears 1 was such a pain in the ass to play with friends. customizable soldiers would be nice.

It's funny how everyone is all goo goo over the trailer now. But my real concern are the following :
Is it it going to be the same as the original Gears? As in your pretty much invincible during th chainsaw animation? Will it still have the broken active reload. in which you blow something up into smitherings with the shot gun randomly? Will it have those random headshots in which someone aims at my stomach and my head blows up? Will it have a PARTY system like halo? (A party system is a must in Gears for ranked games) And most importantly, (and this is what's going to decide whether I buy the game or rent it) is it going to have host advantage. Because if it does, i will be renting it.
The only reason i didn't go through getting Seriously is because one day I was just going to throw my controller at the floor at at the amount of bullshit that was a happening. I played the crap out of the online mode in gears my gamertag is ElToRo15 if you want to check

yup... down pretty good, after a few weeks/months they always have some kinda deal on the big sellers. Not too worried, probably still be playing GTA anyhow.

Gears is getting a budget re-release this month, isn't it?
Over here in the UK though, I've noticed it's probably worth just buying games at launch. Big titles encourage a bit of price competition to begin with, and then when the rush is over stores move a little closer to RRP. I remember originally getting Gears for £35 on 'Emergence Day', and found a couple of weeks later it was in the same shop for £45! Only recently have I seen it come back down in price.

looks a bit better than gears 1..
damn im sad to say the 360 has reached its peak.
gears 1 used 95% power of 360
this probably uses 100%..
get ready for xbox 720 folks...

Thats the dumbest comment ever.Gow used about 60% of what the 360 could do and gow2 is about 85%.
Im in game development so i know what im talking about.
