Afro Samurai (possibly the most descriptive title ever devised) is looking good. GameSpot recently got to take an extended look at the game (based on the anime series of the same name) and came away impressed. The game is complete with all the things that fans of the show have come to expect, namely some of the bloodiest combat you're ever likely to see. The GameSpot preview makes particular note of Afro's ability to cut enemies in two from any point on their bodies. These bisecting maneuvers are dynamic by the way, and not just "canned animations." In other words, every hapless foe you decide to cut in half will will fall apart in a different way. Isn't it great what technology is capable of these days? Hit the "read" link for GameSpot's full preview. Check out the video after the break for an idea of what the TV series is all about (warning: extremely violent).
"Afro's health won't regenerate automatically; instead, the only way to build him back up to health will be by battling it out with enemies and helping Afro regain his focus."
I really like the sound of that. If the combat in this game turns out to be more skill based (ninja gaiden) and less cool looking button mashing (dmc) than I'll be picking it up for sure.
I recently picked up the afro samurai series (err.. well all 5 episodes of it) on DVD for the modest sum of £7 ($14) and enjoyed it, so I may have to give the game a look when it arrives. I've been waiting for a game to do the whole dynamic cutting in half of opponents, so that'll be fun.
Wow. After looking at the screen shots they put up all I can say is I hope they have a saved films feature ala skate.
I being completely serious.
Imagine the kind of "holy shit, did I just do that?" moments that could come from being able to cut of what ever body parts you want in middle of acrobatic combos, in an art style strip right out of an anime. And why shouldn't we be able to share said moments with loved ones?
This will be awesome I can tell. I have watched Afro Samurai the series like 4 times already and I love it. I hope that Samuel L. Jackson and Rob Perlman put thier voices into the video game. I hope to get in the world of Afro Samurai and wear the coveted #2 headband soon. (I also think it would be nice if we got to play as kid and teen Afro)

Last time I checked, black people never invaded, colonized and enslaved any Asian countries. History matters.
