According to the Latino Review, screenwriter Stuart Beattie (who penned the script for the upcoming G.I. Joe movie) took it upon himself to write a screenplay for the Halo movie, without Microsoft's knowledge and in his spare time because he's a huge fan of the franchise. The screenplay is said to be called Halo: The Fall of Reach and is based on Eric Nylund's novel of the same name. And unlike the official movie script that Microsoft had written with Master Chief playing a supporting role, Beattie's focuses on Master Chief's life and past. A script that only introduces the Covenant midway through, which would help cut down on the use of CGI and production costs thus making it more attractive to studios. If this turns out to be the real deal, hopefully Microsoft will at least take a look at the screenplay, maybe shop it around and make this darn Halo movie thing a reality. A more Master Chief focused movie that stays true to the novels and games is more up our alley anyway.
[Thanks, Dobbs]

The Fall of Reach was an amazing book. We need a movie based on that. Problem is, I don't know if they want to show John's face. @.@

The Halo movie could cost $1000000000000000 and it would still make a butt load of profit, if the only reason the film isn't being made is because of cost then somebody at Hollywood needs shooting. We all know that the real reason is the studios don't want to give MS the cut they demand, damn greedy movie studios.

Cuts both ways, what's a hundred percent of nothing? MS needs to get this done, make it a trilogy, they'll make their money.

Fall of Reach is EXACTLY what I wanted them to base the movie on from the very beginning. I think using that book for a script would result in a unexpectedly kick ass movie like how Batman Begins was. For those of you who've read the book, I'm sure you agree it was quite enticing and very suitable for a movie.

Fall of Reach was a great book and would make the perfect Halo first movie since it gives us what we want to see... the Master Chief... I guess maybe just microsoft just does not want to reveal to all the fans that the MC is a middle aged white guy that spent a good amount of time killing humans before the covonent ever showed their faces to humanity.

If the movie ever gets made there'll be twice as many snobs condemning it: those saying "well, the book was better" and those saying "well, the game was better".
Personally, I still can't get over the fact the main character doesn't have a face, and anyone who isn't already a huge Halo fan will have an equally hard time sitting through that. Translation: no mainstream appeal.

thats exactly why fall of reach would be a perfect story for the movie. It tells the story of how master chief became to be, starting from his childhood. Therefore, a good chunk of the movie would be "John 117" (master chief prior to being master chief). Read the book and you'd know exactly why it would be a perfect book to movie candidate.

They're finding out that there's NO FRICKING STORY here. It's a FPS. You run. You shoot. You run some more. You have a short conversation meant to tell you your next goal, then you run and shoot and drive and shoot and run and shoot until all the enemy is dead and you get to see the final dialogue exchange.
At no point in the Halo games is there anything that I would consider worth watching in a theater. There's very little in it that is unique; It's like a quality rip-off of a lot of other movie ideas, packed into a game.
Demolition Man + Aliens + Full Metal Jacket/Platoon = Halo
