The latest Xbox Live Arcade release is now available in the form of Triggerheart Exelica. We haven't performed a thorough search, but we're fairly certain that Triggerheart Exelica has the most nonsensical and least descriptive name on the download service. It may interest you to know that it's a vertically scrolling shooter of the old-school variety. It features little bitty anime characters blasting away at little bitty planes and tanks as well as humongous bosses. Also worth noting, the actual game only takes up about 1/3 of the screen. Our condolences to those with small televisions. The full version is available for 800 points.

It's a vertical arcade shooter, there's not much to do other than stretch it out and funkify the layout (which I hope is an option, but I don't know). People are excited about Ikaruga, but it's going to be very similar. It's made a hell of a lot more obvious in widescreen.

Welcome to the world of vertical shooters, where you can't do anything else about the screen because the arcade machines used 90-degree rotated screens for more space.
I suppose you could turn your screen sideways too, but I think complaining about the game not being drastically altered for your tastes is a bit crass.
Anyway, I love shmups, so I of course stayed up all night to buy and play it. It doesn't disappoint if you like (and actually understand!) shooters at all.

There is an option for turning your monitor sideways, by the way, though it's disabled in the trial version.
And I hope you weren't referring to me Takako. I wasn't complaining, just stating the fact.

I'm okay with the screen layout for this kind of game, though it is very frustrating in Contra.

Yeah for $10 I guess it's too much to ask for the game to make reasonable use of the screen. I'm not a huge shmup fan to begin with but that Omega 5 looks superior to this game.

I do want this game but have currently not purchased it due to a debate I am having with my self about it being worth 800 ms points. It has, well it dosn't have two player local or online, even though when you boot it up it gives you an online warning for some strange reason. The text in the game is microscopic. The graphics are a poor representation of the Naomi engine and what it can do and the game dosn't even use the full screen...Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that the other arcade games that cut the screen off like this are 400 point games right? Over all, Triggerheart is a game I could get down with but with other 800 ms points games of recent release like Metal Slug 3, Omega 5, N+ and Poker Smash this titlefails to impress me at this price range.

Oh I forgot to add Rez to that list. 08 has been a very good year for the Arcade spoiling us to death, with the exception of Boogie Bunnies and the very unwanted but free Undertow.

Debate is over, screw it I've got the points to blow, and swinging enemies around then throwing them at other bad guys is pretty funny. Mark me down for Triggerheart. #55
Still a far cry from Radiant Silvergun.
