Fresh from GDC, we have the game that the future of Denis Dyack's career rests on: Too Human! These new gameplay trailers actually show off rather a lot, with snippets of combat, displaying of armor and weapons, and some cut-scene bits. Now, when watching the gameplay portions of these it's important to remember that Too Human is not an action game in the vein of Ninja Gaiden, but rather an an action-RPG that is closer to Phantasy Star Online. With that in mind the game is looking rather good, though with a ten-year dev cycle and three changes of platform, people will always find something to complain about. Whether you love it or hate, the game is coming together and looks to be coming together well. All thats left at this point is to release it and see just how good it really is.
Are they still on the Unreal 3 engine? Every game on that damn engine suffers from framerate issues and some of the worst texture pop-in I've ever seen in my life. I can't imagine why developers use it for any reason aside from it being the only one around to use.
Finally something from GDC I can sink my teeth into. And can you seriously discern framerate from a streaming low-res video? Come on dude, and the folks over at Joystiq said there were no apparent framerate drops during the on-stage demo during the conference like at the E3 showing.
I'm pretty sure he wasn't 'hatin' on the framerate in the video or, rather, apprehensive as to whether or not the framerate will be consistent in the final build.
Personally, I don't think that's going to be much of a problem. What I'm having problems with right now is animations, did anyone else feel like some of the characters animations were a bit 'incomplete'? And in the first video, that ship-looking thing? It was traveling on a 'track' and it makes this really ugly turn. I don't know, it's little things, but they're little things that should be polished, especially considering how long this game has been in development.
I will admit, though, I'm a sucker for the underdogs, so I'd love to see this game produce on what it promises.
Yeah some of the animations did feel a bit forced or clunky. But honestly I'm always overly critical until I'm actually into the game and playing, and I can already tell this game is going to consume me and could possibly be a very memorable gaming experience that will stay with me for some time. I appreciate the objective and rational comment/responses. Those are hard to come by on the internet in general.
I'm supprised at how this type of "hate" builds up with certain games. I own most of the "big" or popular recent titles and within the first 5 minutes or so can find major glitches or gripes with the game that everyone blindly ignores because the company has created a game they liked before or they ignore because advertisment agencies and journalist build up false praise or distaste for a game that the sheople follow.
Also I suggest to everyone that they watch the second video if they can only watch one and to do it in HD with the volume all the way up and watch it til the end. This game looks amazing.
I've been saying that since I first saw the game, it sucks. Denis was complaining about people being hard on it, but they were hard on it because it sucks. There is no way this game will be good. It reminds me of Advent Rising, remember that? It was a planned trilogy but the first game flopped so the project was tanked. We'll just have to wait and see. Oh, and don't be dissin on my Mass Effect o_o.
You can not look at that and tell me it looks like a well polished game. The story could be good but the game play seems too clunky. Did you see when he was firing his guns that those projectiles and he was spazing all over the place, come on. And I grew up on games like Gauntlet which this seems clearly inspired by. I started gaming in the arcade for gods sake.
Age does not imply maturity. I never said I was more mature than anyone here, just implied there were many young gamers who didn't understand what this game is and thus cannot appreciate the game.
You never fail to show your true colors Etchasketchist.
Want to know the great thing about young gamers not appreciating it? Well when I log into live and my buddies aren't online to join me in a co-op game I can rest assured there will be less screeching children joining my public games. Not to imply any of you are said screeching children, just that if you can't appreciate it then I doubt some young whippersnappers would.
Oh trust me, I am FAR from mature. And as for beer, it tastes like baking soda mixed with water, at least the crappy kinds. If the game is good in anyway then I'll appreciate that aspect of it but as it stands I'm very iffy. If I want to play a good dungeon crawler loot fest then I will play Diablo 2...I just realized how good a XBLA game that would be.
All I can say is I hope it lives up to some of the talk about it, and
if it does and its fun, I'll be happy. The one big concern I have is
how am I gonna control all that? If the control system and camera
don't work well, the game won't either...
Did you see it back when it was first announced for 360? The camera was looking down on the player (forgot what the term for that is), they got rid of that in favor of a more cinematic camera for a more cinematic experience. Yeah, I'll play it if its good but I have some very low expectations for it.

Biggest problem I see right now is framerate. Can Dyack and his team keep the framerate up or will this be another Mass Effect?

Sorry fans. You waited for 3 years for Dynasty Warriors 38 with a graphical facelift.
This has been done to death.

Guess I'm one of the small minority who's a little bit excited for this game then.
For me, it has all the right ingredients to be a hit.
This & Mass Effect were the two games I was most looking forward to, and so far so good.
