Sure, HD DVD might be knocking on Death's door, but that won't stop us from posting a good deal. 1saleaday.com (we haven't heard of them) is currently offering the Xbox 360 HD DVD player for $89.99. Not only that, but the deal includes a free HD DVD copy of King Kong as well. Unfortunately, that's about all we know. No where on the site does it mention if the item is in new condition, for example. Still, it's a hell of deal, especially when you throw in the 5 free HD DVDs deal on top of the $90 price. If you're interested, you've got about ten hours to make the purchase as of this posting.
[Thanks, william buckley]

I know the future of HDDVD isn't good, but this player is excellent and for this price it's can't miss. There are some great movies availble on HD still.

Knowing this format is almost dead, I can't even imagine investing even $90 into it and then more money into HD-DVDs... I'd rather just put it toward a Blu-Ray player and be done with it.

Poor HD-DVD, nobody wants to play with you no more...
I hate Blu-Ray though, looks like I'll be sticking with plain ol' DVD for the time being.

i wouldn't want one if it were free even. still havta buy HD-DVDs to go with it. I'd rather start a blu-ray collection than a dying HD-DVD collection.
but i'm not starting either till DVD is abandoned. which won't be for a loooong time.

This is a great HD DVD player, and the format is far from dead.

Seriously, why would you take this deal? BRD will be that cheap soon enough and the HD unit will just be taking up space.

I can't believe HDDVD lost the format war. It depresses me that the logically named format lost, not to mention to superior format (at least early on). It just goes to show how far integration will get you, not to mention the smear campaigns that I heard about going on in your local Best Buy.

Just let it go. Monitoring the death spiral of HD-DVD is too depressing a topic for this site. If we need to talk about it, can we at least take it from a fanboy perspective and talk about what this means for PS3 sales (I'm thinking about it, I admit.) and the future of the format wars.

Well, after the Betamax debacle, I can't say I'm surprised that Sony won this format war. Although, given the increased manufacturing costs, I'm somewhat shocked that more studios didn't balk at blu. But it's moot now. Microsoft needs to begin working on a new blu-ray peripheral pronto.

Humourosly, this atl east finally gives Sony a win in terms of format wars. They're 1 out of 4 now.
Betamax, MiniDiscs and ATRAC were all formats they almost entirely controlled and never caught on. Frankly, I'm surprised Blu-Ray finally won out given the manufacturing costs too... but I guess the appeal of far more copyright protection was too much to ignore. I find it hard to believe most studios care they can fit more on a single disc.

@Tony
do you really think it is the first, don't you know about CD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Disc , and Blu'ray is not a Sony controlled format either "Blu-ray Disc was started by Hitachi, LG, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, and Thomson in February 19, 2002, with Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, and Philips as the back-bone of the foundation" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc

Got mine on ebay. Make a buck while I still can. Only ever watched like 3 HD titles on it. I don't buy movies and since netflix will soon no longer carry them why bother. Digital downloads are the future. Plus trusty ol bittorrent.

Get your Betamax NOW! before the prices plummet further!
I seriously wanted to see HD-DVD come out the winner, but it's pretty obvious what the outcome is, and this is clearly a chump buy.

if you're tired of the noisy regular drive for watching DVDs then I would suggest getting this as it's much quieter. It's also nice to have 2 drives so you can quickly switch between a movie and a game.

Even at this point, if you're serious about getting into HD DVD, this 360 add-on's value is negligible at best. It can't do half of what a standalone HD DVD player does at the same price point when they go on sale ...
... and yeah, I've never heard of this online company. Good luck not getting jipped in the pursuit of a deal. 'Hi, I'm Nigerian royalty and I need you to send me money.'
