A patch to add features to the most-played game on Live has been handed off to Microsoft by the folks at Infinity Ward, and as soon as Microsoft's quality assurance demons do their jobs, our 360's will be full of auto-updating joy. The patch info was given out by Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward Community Relations Manager, and from what he revealed we'll be enjoying a bunch of interesting new stuff.
The main features include the following: new kill cams allowing you to see that guy who destroyed you more often than before. Better host control, now the host will be able to leave the game without wrecking everything for everyone else who's left behind, the host will just change instead. Sniper scopes and ACOG scopes have been tweaked to have them to be easier to use, making them more fluid and natural. Last of the major additions, there will now be a quick mute option similar to Halo 3's, just select a player on the scoreboard screen or lobby, and you'll be able to mute them right then and there.
These changes all seem to be for the best (though we'll see how the sniper balance plays out) and we can't wait for the patch to go live, even if it does make us pine for another auto-update as well.

i'm lucky (and somewhat unlucky) to have everyone auto muted except my friends. but this is in every LIVE game, and yes i've checked my options and have switched out headsets and controllers.
anybody else have this or do i just have a glitched 360?

it will be interesting to see how the snipers work now, but is it just with the acog scope or the default rifle scope as well? either way i cant hit anything with the damn things, but i can kill from across the map with a red dot sight no problem. go figure.

yeah, i guess my 360 came with it turned on. it's weird, i've never heard anyone over LiVe but my friends. I can hear my friends get pissed at them tho!
but yeah, i never use the scope add on. it zooms too close and when i fire, the bullets go everywhere but my target! argh! and yeah red dots are my pref too.

I always found the ACOG scope a hell of a lot better than the red dot sight, but the way it wobbles was annoying, I'm interested to see how it has been adjusted.

I'm posting because I had trouble finding the answer to this - and I felt silly when I understood my mistake :-)
In your xbox live profile, go to Voice and Text under Privacy Settings. I had Friends Only set which meant that I couldn't hear anyone in CoD4 and the other players all had red 'muted' icons next to them in the score card. Once I set this to Everyone all was OK and I could chat away and mute individual players if necessary.

It means you'll see the Killcam more often, sometime you won't get it. It also means, if they did implement what they had talked about doing before, you'll see the Killcam from C4, Claymores and Airstrikes. I guess it'll probably show you when the person planted it, set it off, or launched it, or maybe they'll show that player snickering like the dog from Duck Hunt, who knows how it'll work. I don't really care, I'm just glad for the fixes and for the Sniper update, well, hopefully. I really want the sniper to be a bit more usable. At the moment it's basically only good for taking out other snipers or, if you're better at it like me, you can pick off some pretty good shots on some maps.
Oh well, here's hoping this means we'll also see the new maps soon, too.

Maybe they mean since they've added kill cams to everything now, you can see the guy who kills you more often.. Normally kill cams are only a few things.. so now when that dude carpet bombs you or tags you with C4 there will be a kill cam to go with it.. like it will show the bombs view from being dropped from the air plane, etc.

Ryan that definitely sounds like the option you can enable/disable. It's a parental control I think? I know i've heard about being able to do it, I've even considered it since there are so many annoying people in the games.

Ok, the patch seems cool... but I really would've liked I.W. to include into the patch an option that gives the players the ability to change the rate of fire on certain weapons, like how Rainbow Six Vegas has. Where you can take an Assault Rifle and change from 3 round bursts to full auto or even single shot. These should've been included in the patch, the scopes on the sniper rifles seem just fine to me.

the only useful part of this patch will be the host fix issue so the whole game isn't shut down when the host leaves.

more accurate sniper shooting? GREAT! I get killed enough by those cheap fuckers as it is. Lets make it easier for them.
How about they fix the fact that I have all 30 peices of intel but didnt get the achievement for it. Now thats a SERIOUS issue.
