Earlier this morning, Activision stood high atop their gold pedestal and gloated to the media masses (via the use of a handy press release) that its money making, cash cow Call of Duty 4 was the most purchased video game in 2007. According to Acti and all the sales numbers, CoD4 has sold in excess of seven million copies across all platforms worldwide since its November release. And we believe it. Infinity Ward definitely hit a home run with CoD4 and should be living the good life with all the positive CoD4 news making the media rounds. If we were them, we'd hold out our hands and demand a raise or, at the very least, an in-studio roller coaster.

Wait a minute. How can Activision have two number one games of 2007? Three days ago they said that Guitar Hero III was the number one game of 2007, even saying that it was the "#1 best-selling video game of all time in a single calendar year."

I love the game although I was kinda hoping it wouldn't do well because of the inability to have a local guest when playing xbox live. I guess we'll likely never see that feature again in a COD game.
I mean, why change back if people will buy it anyway.

It's sad that the franchise takes several steps forward with COD4, but will take several steps back for COD5 when Activision farms out development.
I for one, have no interested in a non-IW developed COD game. I will enjoy COD4 and look forward to part 6.

Sooo, yeah, i really disagree with this. CoD4 is awesome and i play it more than any game. But the fact is, CoD4 only sold 7 million copys "Cross Platform." Thats including Xbox 360 And PS3. Halo 3 did 8.1 million with just the 360 alone...im pretty sure Halo 3 won this battle either way you want to argue with it by a Long shot.

What if you break the Halo 3 sales figures out? I'm guessing CoD4 360, PC, PS3, DS combined probably sold more the Halo 3 Legendary Edition. They can only make cat helmets so fast.

The legendary is the same thing as the regular except it comes with a cat helmet and some bonus stuff. it still counts as 1 item. Now, if we're talking about Halo 3 making this much money, yeah, you would be right. This topic is talking about copies sold. not how much one game got. Even though i like CoD4 better, Halo 3 is on top of some or even most category's except for XBL king. CoD4 just took that away.

I love how people say "CoD4 dethroned Halo 3 as the #1 Xbox Live game", yet it only happened 1 month. If it goes 3+ months, we'll see. 1 month isn't enough to say "It's #1, and it completely dominated Halo 3" Both are great games, and it's obvious people love both games.
Also, I love how people consider being #2 on the world's largest online service "a failure".

You would think they would have the money to demand all COD games only be made by them. Cause treyarch is sure working hard at tarnishing the COD name... The average consumer isn't going to know 3 and 5 are made by a different company than 2 and 4...
