We were all hit pretty hard by the delay of Grand Theft Auto IV earlier this year. Since the delay was announced back in August, hardly a word has been written about the game (aside from a tongue-in-cheek video from Kane & Lynch). Originally delayed until 2nd Quarter 2008 (between February and April), Take Two now has a different tone on the matter. GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that Take Two chairman Strauss Zelnick has said the company will not announce a release date until the company is "utterly convinced" that Grand Theft Auto IV will be ready. It's not uncommon for games as big as GTAIV to receive the "it's done when it's done" treatment, but that didn't make it easier for industry folk to see the game miss the 2007 holiday season. On this subject, Zelnick says that missing the holiday season is no longer a concern. From his point of view, the holiday console sales will increase the number of consumers that will buy the "must have" title that is GTAIV.
So, GTAIV just got a little more nebulous. How does that make you feel? And remember, this is for posterity, so be honest.

Because we're delaying it until Christmas 2008!

i think it's better that gta4 missed the holiday window. not only will the holidays increase the number of people who have a onsole but how great will it be when it's april or may or even june 2008 and we get a great game like gta4. during the holiday season there are way too many games to buy and play. it will be great to get a game when there are less titles being released.

Since EA seems to have no intrest in trying to make a game like GTA, It makes me wonder when exactly are they planning on buying Rockstar.

i think that if the delay is worth it then im happy to wait, there are plenty of decent games out atm to keep me occupied - i mean if we found out the delay was to include full online support then i would be happy to wait!

I remember the last time someone said "When it's done": 3D Realms about Duke Nukem Forever.

I don't even care about this game anymore. I'm getting so sick of companies doing this. I was pumped about htis game back in August, now with all this news I don't think I want to get it. Does anyone else get like that when companies pull this shit, or am I being a little unreasonable?

@10:
You're not being unreasonable. I am infinitely less excited about GTAIV in comparison to the day before it was delayed.

Yeah give me Crackdown 2. And Saint's Row 2 come to think of it. At last they've both delivered on a next gen platform. Good games too.
I've lost almost all enthusiasm for GTAIV now.
...But no doubt it'll pick up a little once release day looms ;o)

Take Two has a funky fiscal year that ends in October, so the 2nd quarter being Feb-Apr is correct

I think Saints Row was much better than any GTA out of the box, however GTA: SA on the PC was so awesome due to the fact i can take a car out of ANY game on the PC and put it into San andreas and make bodykits and paintjobs for that car.
That said since i own a 360 also - i think GTA 4 will be awesome when it arrives and everyone will buy it regardless. the risk however is that GTA 4 arrives post Saints Row 2 and doesnt live up to the hype - lets be honest not being able to edit your character appearence ala Mass Effect, San andreas and Saints row 1 and 2 sucks big style

Well, I already feel GTAIV looks a little dated graphically when compared to benchmark games today like Bioshock, Mass Effect, COD4, etc. Imagine how dated it's going to look next year when it finally ships.

that said - the GTA III VC and SA games are all in the top 10 for the best selling video games of all time, R* has always done a better job with every iteration of its franchise and whilst i agree the graphics may not be Bioshock or Mass Effect std when it arrives, i believe R* will surprise us all with what they have in store.
off topic but the feature they need to add would be real life cars - that will never happen though - imagine BMW saying yes to a game that would allow you to steal a Z4 - never happen
