We're receiving reports that many of the Big Daddy figurines included with the limited edition of BioShock are broken. X3F reader SirUrza noted that he turned away 3 copies at his local GameStop, noticing that the tip of the Big Daddy's drill was broken. SirUrza also notes that the copies with broken figurines were put right back on the shelf, so be mindful when picking up your own copy. Luckily for those that have already purchased a copy with a broken figurine, 2K is aware of the problem and is planning to replace all broken figurines. As a consolation until the new figurines are manufactured, 2K is also doling out special printed copies of "Breaking the Mold," the BioShock art book, to affected customers.
If you are one of the unlucky gamers affected by this, keep your eye on the official 2K page for updates on the replacement program.

i pre-ordered the limited edition and was fortunate to receive an intact big daddy. allow me to say that 2K has impressed me, for $10 more i was a little cautious as to the "stability" of the figurine, however this fear was put to rest by the fact of it being a heavy duty (cast iron?) material. in addition 2K had already acknowledged the issue yesterday prior to any midnight releases and are compensating any consumers who might encounter this issue (not to mention paying full shipping and handling costs for the returns.)

It seams that 2K is really screwing up this launch. First its street date is broken, then they are making Widescreen not really widescreen, now they are shipping broken figures.

Mine is just fine. Although the number of broken figurines could be somewhat important, I'm pretty sure it is a minority. This is really a great figurine, I'm impressed by 2K and Irrational Games!

With the promise to replace the figures and toss in the art book to boot, wouldn't some people WANT the broken figures to score free goods?

Wow. My Big Daddies drill was broken. I noticed it sitting at the stoplight after I made the purchase. I went back to GameStop and they tried to tell me that there was no guarantee and that I would have to call this phone number. I said "no way, give me one of the other ones" and the girl wanted to argue, but gave up and gave me a new one. I thought I was the only one.

wouldn't the easiest solution be super glue?

While mine was intact I was really surprised it wasn't made out of plastic. This is the first time I spent extra money to get a Limited Edition and I think its a damn good deal in this case.

Awesome! If my pre-ordered copy is broken, I get a replacement AND the free art book. I'm kind of hoping it's broken now.
@2: It sounds more like you want to believe 2k is "screwing up this launch." For one, 2k has nothing to do with Toys 'R Us breaking the street date. #2, 2k (the publisher) obviously has nothing to do with the widescreen problems, and such problems are not serious anyways. #3... well, that's debatable. It certainly sounds like they should have made sure they wouldn't break, but they're not sending them broken, they're presumably breaking on the way.

The guy at my Gamestop actually noticed the rattling in my LE box and went to go get me a different one. I told him that I preferred to have a broken one such that I could get the bound art book. Though it was nice of him to want to change it out without any interaction from me first.

Well, if I can get a free artbook with it (I have the high-res version on my computer already and would LOVE a printed version), and get it replaced for free....then...
I kind of hope my figurine is broken. While it would suck that I woudl'nt be able to enjoy it in it's full glory right away, I'll get some free stuff which is always cool.

just got my LE Bioshock and my Big Daddy Dril is Brocken at the wrist. i asked the Gamestop employee to exchange it but he said it was the last one. i totally doubt i picked up the last one seeing as its only 1pm. He also seemed like the worlds worst liar but whatever. i'll be getting the free "special printed edition of the BioShock art book".
i wonder what "special printed edition" means? isnt everything printed?

Who says you guys are going to get it free?
What if to get the new big daddy and the art book you have to send in the broken Big Daddy... it'd make sense wouldn't it?
I mean after all, anyone, even people that didn't buy the game, or people that bought it and want the book or another figure could just say it was broken.
The figure is like 5 lbs... maybe more, that's anywhere from $5-10 in shipping. No longer a bargain to get the broken one.

@17 5 lbs?! This thing doesn't weight 5lbs.
Anyways, if I have to send it in to replace the broken one now placed on my desk then so be it.
