Coming off of a warm reception from those who played the demo,
BioShock seems to have enough goods to be attracting excellent reviews and praise from the game review gods. Over on metacritic, two more
BioShock reviews have been added from EuroGamer and Game Informer with both publications agreeing that
BioShock deserves a perfect 100 score. These two, on top of OXM UK's
perfect review, further push the
BioShock hype-o-meter into overdrive and proves to doubters that the game has the goods and actually lives up to what was promised from day one.
We'll keep an eye on these official reviews as they trickle in to see if this little masterpiece reaches the stratosphere of greatness. Or maybe you could
win (
win)
BioShock from X3F, play it tomorrow, and then give us your official review of the entire game. Because we all know a fanboy's opinion is one of the most sought after.

As one of the lucky Tuesday afternoon TRU shoppers, and about 3 hours into the game, it matches my first Half Life experience. Anyone who has a 360 should give the full game a shot. My one gripe is it makes my 32" 720p LCD at 10' away look small. As the game will play in 1080p, some of the text and UI elements look like they lean towards having a larger screen then I do.
The sound however is amazing. I've got a higher end 5.1 system with a top of the line subwoofer, and it is as immersing then any game or HD-DVD I've played through the system yet.

Am I the only one who didn't like the demo. The only interesting part of the gameplay is how you can combine plasmids like setting someone on fire so they run in water and then electrocuting that, other that that everything else seems average except for the graphics. I rather get Stranglehold, that game has some intense action and the destructible environments is what every nest gen shooter should have. How can a game without multi player get a perfect score.

Bioshock has no multiplayer component...
Therefore...it shouldn't receive any scores better than 7.0
Shadowrun got shit on due to no single player.
Come on , let's be fair here.

Played the games for about 6 or 7 hours and have to say it is nothing short of a masterpiece. It's not just on par with Half-Life 2 or System Shock 2, it succeeds them in every possible way. This is by far the best FPS I have played in my 15 years of gaming.

Single player is a staple for any game which is why shadowrun got such a poor score. Not to mention that there were limited maps and match types. It was only part a game. Are you stating that Zelda, or Final Fantasy should automatically get a 7.0 because there is no multiplayer? If the multiplayer of Shadowrun had more immersive gameplay more than a couple maps and one game type then it would have gotten a good score.

12 maps , 3 game types, 4 races , hundreds of different ways to spec your character.
thousands of ways to approach any given situation.
it's pretty immersive.
let's admit what's really going on here, 2k has contributed a lot of advertising dollars to these publications, whereas FASA studio did not.
shameful.

Xenocidic, it is expected that games USUALLY have single player and multiplayer is a maybe.
Bioshock is on a roll...I might even beat GoW with its current scores. I just needs one more review before it it gets an official metacritic score.

Personally, I wouldn't put it as a 10/10. If there was some form of MP, and it was done just as well, THEN I would give it a 10/10. However, lack of MP is a little upsetting. Hell, I would even take a simple deathmatch game, like Half-Life: Deathmatch.

Don't get me wrong - Bioshock looks pretty damn cool and I was impressed by the demo. I just don't like double-standards.
Xbox 360 and Xbox Live are built for multiplayer. Games without it should not get perfect scores.
Similarly, Shadowrun should not have gotten such terrible scores just because it doesn't have single player.

Its not that it was multiplayer only. It was because it was multiplayer only and it didn't have anything or at least not much more than your average multiplayer in any other game.

Y'know.. not every game made in the first person has to have multiplayer to make it good.
I'm just saying. There's nothing wrong with having a single player experience.

I give this game props, the graphics are nice, gameplay is fun, and the story-line/world is imaginative.

Sorry Xeno, i dont think you're gonna win this argument. Quake 3 Arena had a Singleplayer game even though it was geared 100% towards Online Mulitplay. 12 Maps isnt enough for a Multiplayer only game. Simply put its just sub par.
Just by playing the demo you can tell which IP was looked after closely and which was not looked over closely enough.

i played half life death match and it quite frankly in my opinion, sucks. i thought the single player was good but knew that they had thrown together the multiplayer and we all know that regardless of how good a game is, if it's multipayer sucks then that could be the end. plus, bioshock doesn't feel right to have multiplayer.

I did play shadowrun and I did like it. It just didn't nearly warrant the price tag. Bioshock on the other hand is going to be completly worth the price tag.

What about games like Mass Effect, if it lives up to our expectations, then I can see that game getting a perfect score...even though there is no multiplayer.

xenocidic,
I'll admit that you are way off base with your guess about what is going on.
Shadowrun is limited. Graphics, no single player, lack of a real storyline...stair animation. All with a price point of $59.99 which was about $30 more than most people were willing to pay for it.
You can say what you want about how great the game is, but I don't see it even listed as a Top 10 Live Titles in the past month.
You may not have agreed with the reviews but clearly the general public did.
