All the fanboy
speculation about leaked ads and rumors of an Xbox 360 price cut can finally be put to rest, because Microsoft has officially come clean. Today, Microsoft announced that this Wednesday (August 8th) all Xbox 360 console versions will be getting a little cheaper in the United States. Tomorrow, the Core system will retail for $279 (a $20 price cut), the Premium will retail for $349 (a $50 price cut), and the Elite system will be available for $449 (a $30 price cut). Again, the new prices will go into effect this Wednesday and are only planned for the US, but we expect price cuts to spread worldwide soonish. And we know there are a few fanboys out there who've been waiting (nearly two years) for this to happen, so go fanboys go and get your cheaper Xbox 360 this Wednesday. You have our blessing.

3: YOU'RE RETARDED. Its for people who haven't bought one yet, and were waiting for a lower price. Its not at all supposed to help those who have already paid for one.

Zeus, it actually can. The core is $20 cheaper so when the main 360 dies you can have a core as a backup for Halo 3. :P
In all seriousness, I'm glad for this. Most of the hardcores have their console, but for the Madden/ GTA player, this is very good. :)

My PREMIUM 360 broke down on me... Sent it in to Circuit City [because I bought a 3 year warranty], they sent me a gift card with 430.99 [tax...] But I did not include the hard drive in, as I stated... I also bought an extra wireless controller... So tomorrow Im going to buy the Core, and the external HD-DVD drive as well...

There probably won't be another drop in price until Holiday 2009 or later.

Why not $50 across the board? Maybe they don't want to seem as "cheap" as the Wii, but it's not like M$ is known for its high quality. I don't get it, they always seem to have the right idea, and then somewhere along the lines they try to see how they could fuck it up. IMHO
Elite-399
Premium-349.99
Core-247.98
BAM!! Good to go...

I don't understand the pricing structure on the Elite. It was previously an $80 value over the Premium, and now we are to believe it is an $100 value over the Premium. That's just stupid. If the hardware value has decreased $50, then it should decrease that much over the spectrum.

a $20 price drop on the core?
thats still too high of a price point.... if it's not going to compete directly with the wii, whats the point.
If they're only going to drop it $20, they might as well discontinue it.
while the elite price makes it a little more round, i'm sure they could have afforded to knock off more than $30. to get HDMI and a bigger HDD is now $100 more, instead of just $80, expect to see elite sales drop.

Get rid of the core already it cost more to upgrade the hard drive $280 plus another $100 to get a hard drive if you want one or drop the hard drive price by $30 or $50. This kind of stuff M$ does gets me pissed off at them.
It makes a lot more sense to drop all 3 of the systems $50
