As the promises of loads of downloadable content echo through the empty halls of memory, Red Octane has let out a squeak, nay, the smallest chirp of information regarding the next batch of downloadable songs for Guitar Hero II. According to a forum post by a Red Octane admin by the name of rodth, new downloadable content for Guitar Hero II should drop sometime in July. Specifically, rodth noted, "While nothing's been formally announced, look for something to come down the pipeline around the July timeframe ...."If you've been keeping track, this would be the second batch of DLC we've seen since April. We're not experts, but we're not sure that qualifies as the most DLC for any 360 game evar.

Is it new or still rehashing GH1 tracks? I personally would have bought new tracks at the higher price. But they led us to belive that GH1 would basically be doled out in pieces for the 360. There was no was I was paying more than $100 for GH1, as a dl without the guitar.
Im all for content, and I dont mind paying for it. But ripoffs are unnaceptable.

Seeing that they got absolutely *roasted* (and still are) over the pricing of their previous DLC, I'm not suprised they went back to the drawing board.
Let's see what their plan B is in July.

IT'S ABOUT TIME!
Curiously, another new GH game will be landing in July... Guitar Hero 80s for PS2 of course! Anyone else think that's a possibility?
It would be awesome if they offered up every single GH 80s song for $40. Or maybe they'll offer one set at a time, at $5-8 a pop. That wouldn't be so bad. I just hope it's some new songs we haven't seen before

I am reminded of a time when packs of content were promised for lumines. That never really happened. There are still a number of GH1 songs that need to come out, and with the 80's stuff coming out in Julyish, there is far more content that 'could' come, but after all the negative press over the cost, I wonder if they are willing to release it all.
NOTE: there was also a great deal of hate towards the price of lumines.

Here's hoping that the content is the 80's stuff. That would rule.

They need a few more GH1 song packs with a price low enough to balance the first set out to a decent price point.

Yeah, seriously. I'm willing to bet that they had a lot of shit planned and lined up before all of that happened. Even considering that, they still sold relatively well.
I'm actually kind of surprised they didn't just go "screw you guys" and make every one wait for GHIII when they can just release these content packs for all the systems at once.

Keep in mind kids it's not Microsoft that set these prices for downloads. That's left completely up to the content publisher. So when you're roasting someone for 'pricey' DLC, and Microsoft *isn't* the publisher, be sure to keep that in mind

if its not ms, then explain the gears maps that you have to pay for because they forced epic to put a cost on them. there were a few other reports about the same thing, but i cant remember the games off the top of my head

MS published Gears. Epic just worked on it.

U mean Epic just made it right? Not just worked on it.
On topic, If the songs are over priced they can go fuck themselves and so can any1 that buys them.

I think what they meant was:
"most ludicrously priced DLC for any 360 game evar".
They won't have the most DLC honors until they start releasing the video strategy guides for each individual track. That comes in August...
Price? 100 msp per song.

I think paying for a "video strategy guide" for guitar hero is worse than paying for the current DLC. No video strategy guide is going to show you how to nail a solo or a tough verse or chorus. It's all practice. The more time you put in, the better you play. It's that simple

There seems to be some interesting tidbits coming from RO about this whole thing on those forums. It seems that since they are using the code from Harmonix (as RO has to make GH3 from the code up), it makes sense that Harmonix would have at least a little input into things on the DLC, perhaps.

Regarding Lumines content, they never claimed to make content in a specific month, correct?
Furthermore, RedOctane/Harmonix is a legit company. Who makes Lumines again?

"Who makes Lumines again?"
Q Entertainment, who has also made Meteos, Gunpey, Every Extend Extra, Ninety-Nine Nights and three other Lumines titles.
They're hardly "illegitimate".
