PC WORLD has named their Top 20 Products of the Year and surprisingly, the Xbox 360 Elite made it on the list. And even though the Xbox community has mixed opinions about the black console, PC WORLD thinks that the Elite's huge HDD, HDMI connectivity, and Xbox Live functionality warranted a #18 place on the list. The Elite beat out two others including Paint.net (#19) and the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 (#20), but was left crying in the corner by Nintendo's Wii which came in at a very respectable #3. So fanboys, has your thoughts, impressions, or feelings about the Xbox 360 Elite changed since its release and would you be more or less likely to pick it up over a Premium?[Thanks, Serge]

I really, really want one. I bought one actually but left it unopened for a few days while I waited to see if I could find a buyer for my current 360. It's funny how tempted I was to open it even though there was nothing really new about it compared to the premium. I bought a PS3 at launch to sell on Ebay and can honestly say I had no urge whatsoever to open that. In the end I decided I'd wait until Halo 3 launches to see if they bundle it with the Elite, or if the Elite starts coming with the smaller processor. By the way, I never did find out if this thing is a limited run or not. They are gonna keep making them continuously, right?
On topic, I will admit I'm suprised that it made it onto the list. It's noticably pricey and doesn't offer much new functionality.

yeah when the 65nm version comes ill be buying. But right now the Elite's "upgrades" just arent worth a new purchase.
If they can quiet the drive along with the 65nm by holiday season-- ill be buying an elite and giving the white one i have to my kids.

im pretty sure they cant quiet the drive properly 2 lazy i bet
amirite in thinkin that most 18x or whatever are that loud when spinning at speed. it wouldnt be hard to add some noise dampener but they r lazy i bet (ill still get an elite when it launches in UK with 65nm chips and Halo 3)

I bought an Elite last week, after avoiding the 360 until now. I like it a lot. The matte near-black is far more attractive than the old white, and it looks great in my AV setup.
I've already DLed more than 20GB worth of trailers and demos, so I certainly like the bigger HDD. HDMI has made hookup a snap.
Is it a huge improvement over the Premium? Nah. But it's far more svelte. I certainly felt like it was worth the extra $80.

I purchased a premium 360 on launch day and I must say my 360 has grown on me more and more everyday. It is impressive to see Xbox live growing so dramatically.
I was gonna wait to get an elite till fall when it is rumored that they will be producing them with the smaller chip, but then...it happened. I got the ring of death (4 of them, no it is not the connection my system is screwed). Now I have the extended warranty and as I type this it is being repaired/replaced free of charge (I told them to make a note that I would refuse a refurbished system as I have spent probably over a grand or two on the marketplace). So I was forced to either buy an Elite or possibly miss the Halo 3 beta...naturally I bought an elite. I love it! My only real complaint since launch day has been the pitiful 20gb (13gb) hdd. I had it filled up in 2 days. Finally a bigger HDD....but now I have to deal with content that I purchased on my premium not playing on my Elite if I'm not signed into live, that is bullshit. I have friends who love the 360 but have no broadband and no 360, so I tend to take mine over there a lot. Now we can't play most of my arcade games or downloaded content/ WTF!!!! Fix this microsoft.
Sorry I had to vent people. Other then that I am 100% satisfied with my Elite purchase. I will probably buy another in the fall with the smaller chip and then sell my premium so I can still system link.

The quality of HD video downloads on the 360 tops that of all other options- now that it has the space to store those downloads (in addition of the best games/multiplayer) it's a natural.

Not sure of the context, but it is funny that the PS3 is not on this list. Still no love for the still born console. But just wait until all those great games come out on '08. Blah blah blah....

#15, Actually the PS3 was listed by PC World magazine, as #8 on the "Top 21 Tech Screwups of 2006!"
"Late, Expensive, and Incompatible" best describes it.
