The Gamestop Xbox 360 trade-in increase we talked about earlier in the week needs further clarification due to the evidence we just received. Kevin, a Gamestop assistant manager, sent us scans of the actual coupon flyers for the Elite trade-in promotion. All the Xbox 360 trade-in increases that what we reported on earlier ($250 Premium, $200 Core, $50 Xbox) are correct, but the promotional dates and how the program works is a little different than what we were told. In a memo to Gamestop managers, it clearly states that the Xbox 360 Elite trade-in coupon flyers must be held until April 29th (Elite launch day), when they'll be given out to all Elite purchasers. Then, before May 27th, you can bring in your special coupon from the flyer, old Xbox 360, and the receipt from your Elite purchase to get the increased trade-in values. This will allow you to buy an Elite, take it home, transfer all your data from your old 360, and then go back to Gamestop to trade it in for the increased value.
Sorry for the confusion everyone, but it sounds like the managers we talked to either don't read their memos or just don't care what corporate says. We can't argue with flyer scans from Kevin. Xbox 360 Elite flyer proof posted after the break.

So... if you do it this way, you pay full price for the Elite, bring in your 360 AFTERWARDS and then get MORE store credit? Thats a bunch of BS. What if I want to use the 360 trade in TOWARDS my elite purchase?

That is BS. I was planning on buying the Elite at Best Buy so that I could get their replacement plan (to avoid another out of warranty RRoD) GameStops warranty isn't any better than MS's, unless they've changed it since MS has changed their warranty.
If GameStop has as good a replacement plan as Best Buy, I'll go for it, if not, they can go . . .

That's the way I read it too but wouldn't that only apply to the Premium systems?
I'm trading in my O.G.Xbox so I'm hopeful that I can bring it in that day and get the credit towards my Elite. Any GameStop managers want to clarify?

Wow, talk about losing sales real quick. They need to offer in store data transfer or something.

Buy your Elite from Target. Extended service plan is $30. Best Buy is $50. Target seems to be much cheaper on extended service plans.
But you say you want Reward Zone points? You'll only get $10 in reward points for the Elite, making it still cheaper at Target. Only a Double points offer would make it worth it.
Then again, maybe you want 6 months to pay for it...

Yes, you *can* bring your trade on the day of purchase and apply it directly towards the Elite.
Also, just in general, get to know the manager of the location you visit. If he knows you and likes you, he would probably be willing to slightly circumvent policy. In other words, he might be willing to (a) sell you an Elite, (b) you bring your trade later, and (c) "return" the Elite and resell it to you with your trade credit applied at the time you bring your trade. Not saying that everyone will do it, but it's worth a shot.

it seems as though they would refund the trade-in value at a later date (within the return period). or they would get a rash of people with "returns" it would only save gamestop alot of headaches

I plan on buying an elite eventually but it's shit like this that shys me away from doing any business with Gamestop.
Now I know that there are some really cool mangers out there and not everyone that works at GS are evil but there are alot of dicks out there, and promotions out there that only give you store credit is just bogus...
Like Tim UF said I would rather have the cash back...

Wow you guys are idiots.
READ THE POST.
You buy an Elite from a Gamestop or EB. You go home, transfer your shit. Bring your Elite receipt and old 360 into the store.
Now pay attention, this is where it gets tricky..
They do a RETURN on your Elite
-You now have 500 something credit.
-You trade in your 360, you now have an additional 250 store credit.
-They charge you again for your Elite, you now have 250 some to be REFUNDED HOWEVER YOU PAID FOR YOUR ELITE.

$50 for an Xbox? The only thing I'd take into a Gamestop is a Molotov cocktail?

Read my comment #9 above. If you aren't trading in at the time of purchase of the Elite, it will be up to the store manager whether or not you can "return" and repurchase the Elite when you do bring your trade. Being as nice as possible to him or her can't hurt at all. If you *are* trading in at the time of your Elite purchase, then it will come straight off the Elite's purchase price, just like a regular trade.

This reads as though you go to the Gamestop store on 4/29, buy your new Elite for full price. Leave the store with the Elite and a coupon for your original Xbox360/Xbox. Go home and do whatever it is you need to do to transfer your data over from your original system to your Elite. Then before 5/27 come back to Gamestop with your original system and coupon, at which point they will then issue you a store credit for $50/$200/$250.
If I can't leave that store with anything less than the cash for my trade-in then they can shove this so-called "promotion" directly up their arses.
