The PS3 exclusivity rumor train is unstoppable these days. Just days ago it was revealed that both
Devil May Cry 4 and
Ace Combat 6 were going multiplatform, and now we hear, courtesy of GameSpot, that the one of the biggest exclusives of all may be spreading the console love as well. Yes, it appears that
Final Fantasy XIII -- you know, "that RPG" -- could be jumping the fence in search of greener pastures. In an interview with Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace, Georges Fornay, president of Sony Computer Entertainment France, hinted at the possibility. Fornay noted that development costs for games have skyrocketed, making it difficult for 3rd party developers to produce exclusive titles. Said Fornay, "As far as
Final Fantasy XIII goes, I can tell you that the exclusivity is in discussion." Square-Enix has yet to comment on Fornay's statement.
Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, recently
added fuel to this rumor, stating that the
FFXIII's White Engine is capable of multiplatform development, and that he believed making
FFXIII a multiplatform game would be a "wise" decision. Is the Xbox 360 about to pick up another of the PS3's heavy hitters? Only time will tell. If
Final Fantasy XIII were to come out on Xbox, would it sway your decision to get a PS3?

Us much as I love my 360, Final Fantasy belongs on a Playstation ... at least for me, so I'm still first in line tomorrow morning when Sony lunches here in Europe.

Many years ago I could have said that about Nintendo. I stopped pidgeonholing any 3rd party games to specific systems since then lol. A lot of people seem to forget that the first 6 games (and a spin-off) were Nintendo only at one point. As far as genuine sequels in the series goes, that's just as many as Sony got.
This would be nice. I'd be willing to give the game a try, despite the difference in team members since XII (which I liked a lot, FF has changed so much since FFIV that I'm not a big fan anymore).
The graphics engine it uses, the White Engine, is supposedly multiplatform in nature anyway. It shouldn't be a bitch to accomplish.

I've been swaying in my fanboyism lately. I like the PS3. It definitely has a very techno-savvy high end feel to it. It just has some major things holding it back (price, controller, no vibration, games currently available). But I think the Home idea is pretty interesting and the trailer for Little Big Planet were unreal.
I will probably, eventually pick a PS3 up. Especially once the price comes down and it is about 2-3 years old. There are going to be great games for it eventually, but not now. I can wait longer for the price drop if I'm playing games like Final Fantasy XIII on my 360.

This would be sweet.
I kinda figured eventually it would happen, because FF11 was on the 360 and PC. Plus its just smarter for a company to release on multiple consoles.
@1
Final Fantasy games have not been on just playstations. It started with nintendo.

I generally have one major console. I sold my PS2 to get an Xbox in the same way that I sold my N64 towards my purchase of the PS2.
This is actually the first generation where I have enough money to buy whatever I want, and now that it's here, the 360 seems like more than enough. Why buy a PS3 when I have so much fun playing online with my 360 owning friends? There'd be no time for the PS3. Until it catches up as far as online gaming (long way off) there's just no place for it.

Microsoft is trying their hardest to make us all broke. With all these great games coming out a 2nd job may be needed. If the FF series comes to the 360 then the only other franchise I'd like to have is Tekken. I'd love to have God of War too but that is produced by Sony so I doubt that'll come our way.

@ Tony and adam
I'm well aware of the fact that the Final Fantasy series was on another system before it was released on a Playstation. But before the Gamecube I never owned a Nintendo system myself and only played on them for hours on en over at a friends house. So for me FF is a "Playstation series" ... hence the "at least for me" part in my comment.

FFX was the reason I went PS last gen. I jumped the boat early this time and went with the 360 with the intent on getting a PS3 later just for this game. Now I might not have to. :)

Sony had better have some amazing NEW franchises of games coming out sooner than later for them..because the Reaper is definetely walking up the PS3 sidewalk right now.

Developers are finally all coming around and realizing how much more potential there is with the 360. The 360 is a all around better console with much more possibilities, and even ps3 exclusives are realizing that. Truly a great time to be a 360 owner as our big name games haven't even come out yet!

It's not a matter of "if" but "when".
Squeenix has got to be crazy not to take advantage of the potential cash flow from two consoles (rather than settling for the PS3's small, but growing install base).

Square Enix won't sell me FFXIII if it's on the PS3 but on the 360 it becomes much a much more likely sale.
But Devil May Cry 4 was the one I was really hoping for, so I'm good.

I am a 360 owner, and I really don;t understand this comment, "The 360 is a all around better console with much more possibilities, and even ps3 exclusives are realizing that." How does the 360 have more possibilities than the PS3? Have you read any reviews on Oblivion for PS# yet? The PS3 owns that game, whereas the 360 had a lot of troible even keeping up with it. I have played it both on my 360 and PC and then watched my friend play it on his PS3 the other day and it really is incredible. Also, the PS3 has only been out for a few months, give it time.

Nothing could ever sway me to buy a PS3, unless it was 50 bucks and didn't suck. Thank you.

@ 360OwnsAll
That's because the developers for Oblivion had almost an extra year development time on the PS3, than the 360. Of course it'll look better.

KA is right, more time=better game.
360Ownsall is correct as well, some people need to be patient with the PS3. Each console has it's strong point(s).
