Shortly after uncovering the official box art for the Halo 3 Legendary and Limited editions, Microsoft has sent official details of both special edition packages. First, the big shocker: the Halo 3 Legendary edition will cost $129.99. For the hefty price tag, Halo fanboys will receive the oft mentioned limited edition case featuring the Spartan helmet and two bonus DVDs. The first disc contains behind the scenes footage of Halo 3 including a high definition "Making of Halo 3" documentary. The disc also has a special audio/visual calibration tool designed by the Bungie graphics and sound team. The calibration tool is designed to get the most out of players' home theater setups.The second disc -- exclusive to the Legendary edition -- includes cinematic material from the first two Halo titles, including developer commentary. Also on the disc is special content from the makers of Red Vs. Blue and This Spartan Life. Finally, the Legendary edition will include exclusive storyboard art featuring important moments in the Halo storyline.
The Limited ediiton will cost $69.99 and comes in a spiffy metal case. It includes the same behind the scenes DVD as the Legendary edition and a Halo fiction and art book. The art book contains info on the various species in the Halo universe and reveals new info that expands on Halo's storyline. Just so Limited edition folks won't feel jilted -- and to give Legendary purchasers a reason to buy another edition -- the art book is exclusive to the Limited edition.
Finally, the plain ol' regular edition contains nothin' but Halo 3 for the price of $59.99.

I'm always interested in the CE sets, but when I really think about it I never use any of it and it takes up space. So, for me, just the plain version.

Yeah I got this call from Gamestop a few minutes ago; I've got my Legendary edition reserved. Most people already at least have $60 set aside for the game by now; another $60 shouldn't kill anyone and it's not hugely expensive for this game.
Now, with Alan Wake, Mass Effect, GTA4, Bioshock and Orange Box hitting this year along with XBLA and random other games I've been looking at..Microsoft will pretty much own my wallet! :)
I don't normally get really exclusive versions of games (I did with Gears though, and Metal Gear Solid 3 ), I don't mind the $129.99. I think this is a one-time thing; if other publishers try this price they'll get no responses, but Bungie and MS can here.

So I'm trying to not be upset that for $129.99 I don't get all the special extras. But then I really think about why I preordered the Legendary Edition in the first place...
The helmet...which I still get.
Then I think about how I looked at the special content that came with Gears of War and how I viewed the stuff once...and I start to feel a lot better about it.

None of the above. I decided that I would not buy games anymore. I just rent them online. For the same price I could either buy three games a year or have three games out at a time for a year. Since I want to play more than three games a year I choose to rent. But I have to admit that waiting a couple of weeks after a game comes out for it to come in the mail sucks.

Will not purchase any of the "special" editions. Will likely not purchase Halo 3 at all. Might get used on eBay for 20 bucks in a year or so though. If I'm really hard up for something to play.

The legendary edition isn't for casual players, it's for people truly love Halo. I do have to say though, I really hope the helmet is good quality, otherwise I might feel ripped off...haha

Its all fine and well that Bungie is being so kind to release the hefty price tag for these special editions, but Oden's Raven! WHY CANT THEY RELEASE MORE IMPORTANT INFO THAT IS ACTUALLY BENEFICIAL TO US?!?! Releasing information on how our pockets will get hammered for anything more than just the Halo 3 game should justify releasing information that will actually make Bungie/Halo fans happy. Maybe something to offset the fact that most people are going to be a little peeved and feeling negative about this new tidbit of info. I think its owed to us the Beta release date and even the actual game release date. Come the F on Bungie! Its easy for you to release information that basically says you are screwing us over, but you sure are stingy as hell when it comes to actually useful information that we actually are looking forward to. No one cares that much about how the water looks. No one cares about half of this information you give out in your ridiculous and sometimes pointless weekly updates. GIVE US SOMETHING THATS WORTH A CRAP NOT THIS BS BECAUSE YOU WANT TO BE ALL SUPER SECRET SQUIRREL ON US!!!!!
