Speaking to Eurogamer, Team17's Martyn Brown intimated that the certification process for Worms has taken much longer than originally anticipated. While this isn't exactly news to rabid Worms fans, Brown does shed a little more light on the issue. First of all, Brown notes that Worms is "richer" than many Live Arcade titles and thus has a lot of testing to undergo. He adds that Team17 had to resubmit many times after delivering what they considered final builds of the title. Finally, Brown says that Worms has nearly been released twice in its dev cycle, only to be pulled back into the black abyss that is Xbox Live Arcade certification. As such, Team17 is not keen to celebrate its imminent release in the coming weeks. We have to wonder, can anything be done to streamline the Dreaded Certification Process®? We know that MS has a stockpile of Arcade games. What is it that consistently prevents a timely release schedule?

"Dreaded Certification ProcessĀ®?" There are plenty of bugs in the games that have been released. I can only imagine what things would look like if Microsoft didn't test the heck out of them!
It may be a pain for impatient fans waiting for some games (Worms, Street Fighter II, etc.) but I think we're far better for having it. Patience is a virtue ... Or so they say.

Maybe the process is labeled as "dreadful" precisely /because/ games take so long to be certified only to be released with so many bugs and releated issues.
Team 17 better deliver on this one, or it'll find itself tasting shoe leather. My interpretation of Brown's tone in the interview was that he placed the blame for delays squarely on the bureaucracy of the cert. process.

I think someone at 360fanboy/joystiq needs to score an interview to ask a few questions about this certification process. Yeah, cool, it's great that they're supposedly out there stomping bugs, but why can't I shake the feeling that it is, for the most part, a big load of BS?
Oh, that's right, I get that feeling because despite this supposedly rigorous certification process, I've had a basically useless game sitting on my 360's drive for months now. Many, many people purchased Assault Heroes for the co-op that straight-up doesn't work. You're telling me that this "certification process" didn't turn up a bug that affects, oh, about everyone who wants to play the game?
I'm all for quality control, but don't talk quality control on one hand and then allow games to get released with absolutely critical flaws. It's not like that could have just "slipped through the cracks," especially in light of the Contra problems that occurred prior to the release of Assault Heroes.

There are some games that got rushed through the cert process. Assault Heroes was one, and I'm sure you can think of a few others. This is something Microsoft isn't taking chances with, seeing as there have been people talk of buying a '360 JUST for this game. If they don't get it right, there's going to be hell to pay. With Assault Heroes? Not so much, and they were flooded with submissions at the time.

I have played assualt heroes with friends in online co op many times without problems. what problems occured with it? As for the cert process. Thems be the breaks. If it doesn't pass, why blame the cert process when the guidelines are clearly laid out for devs. I am a huge 2D worms fan but if it doesn't pass, then it doesn't pass.
Maybe they should test their console refurbs this much cause i am now waiting on a repair for my replacement console that only lasted a week.

I'd have more faith in the "certification" process if things like Paperboy- and its 2 frames per second "live" play- weren't constantly getting through.

Part of the problem has to be that we all knew it was coming for so long now. I'd rather they relase it when it's done, but if it hadn't been leaked early, would we feel that it was overdue? Developers try to time product announcements and marketing pushes to coincide with a likley release date. Knowing about a game "too early" seems to only make the wait longer.

I'm so damn tired of all these excuses every week its some really lame excuse why one game hasn't arrived yet. There is no reason I shouldn't be playing ALien Hominid, Sonic, Worms, CastleCrashers or any other recently announced title.
I'm so let down by XBLA recently...

The Assault Heroes debacle has just taken an interesting turn, with Sierra posting on the forums that they were aware of the issue since day one. Here's an extract from my post in reply to that post. And by the way, despite what Sierra say on that forum, it is possible to get a refund for the title - I and several other folks managed to get your points back.
'What'd I'd like to hear is answers to the following questions:
1) Why was this game released with such a massive fault in the first place?
2) Why has it taken so long for Sierra to provide any kind of response? A response which is available in the forums and not mentioned on the main site.
3) Why has the main site always advertised this game as having online co-op functionality, even though you have known 'since day one' that this functionality does not work.
This seems like shoddy business practices at best and blatant false advertising at worst.'
