Good news for all the desk bound 360 fanboys out there, the newest version of XBList has just been
released. For those
unfamiliar with the program, XBList 3.0 puts your Xbox Live friends list right on your desktop in the style of an IM buddy list. It lets you check out what your friends are playing (with their gamer pictures intact), access your incoming messages, see incoming friend requests and game invites, and it will even take you directly to your messages or Live profile page. So, you may be stuck behind a desk all day, but at least you'll know what your buddies are up to. And with game invites intact, you'll never miss a match because you were checking your
porn email. As if all that wasn't enough, the program also supports quick links to Achievement comparisons, Friends' Live profiles, and
Halo 2 stats.
It really is a spiffy little application. We recommend you
check it out. Also, the app is supposedly Vista compliant. Anyone with Vista let us know if it works.

Kinda sucks owning a 360 when you use a mac for the majority of your computing.
Oh well, thats the profession I fell into.

I really miss Xbox Friends Widget. And if you have a mac I would definately recommend using that instead. This thing is buggy and why does everything have to be GIGANTIC! The notifications and the whole list in general is ugly. Is the author 1/2 blind? Definately needs a re-design, well unless you like things ugly.

Mac users may not get all those fancy 360 features, but we still have some alternatives.

I used the last few iterations for a good while.
Great app, but I found it to be a terrible memory whore. If they fixed that I'll use it again, for sure.

This is a great find! I'm glad that I subscribe to your RSS feed! I was always refreshing to see what my friends were doing; this eliminates that. Thanks!

mike,
are you logging in via Internet Explorer? If you can see your friends list on xbox.com in IE, you should be able to have it in XBList.

Please don't sweat the resource usage - that's normal for a .NET app, and it doesn't really consume all that memory. Check out this from the FAQ:
http://brh.numbera.com/software/xblist/troubleshooting/#memory
razer: I'm sorry you think it's ugly - I've got a lot planned for the future in the way of aesthetics. I assure you I'm not half-blind. What do you mean by GIGANTIC though? I mean, the gamer cards are the size of gamer cards, and the popup notifications (which you can disable if you like) are the size of your standard MSN/Outlook popups.

Nice work, Ben, I think it's a neat application that will hopefully improve with time.
I did notice I sometimes have problems viewing my friends' gamercards when hovering over their names, however -- it seems really hit and miss.
The design is also nice and simple, but it could use some work as razer said (although not quite to that extent). I like that it integrates with your Windows theme, too.
It'd be nice to have options to show your own account information without having to go to your profile in IE as well, but I suppose that's a constraint of .NET more than anything.

Runs on Vista for me, but doesn't seem to detect that I'm logged in (even when I re-login).
