Reports are flying, just flying across the internet about Dead Rising wrecking 360s. The symptoms are what we've come to expect: freezing, audio dropping out, graphical glitches, etc. Is it just us, or does this sound all too familiar? We're not saying it's all coincidence, but it seems like every time a popular game comes out, 360s just start breaking all over the place -- Perfect Dark, Oblivion, Chromehounds, Dead Rising, all of them seem like Xbox poison. We're willing to bet that this is more indicative of an overall flaw in our favorite console (or at least a certain portion of them.).
Then again, Microsoft and various game makers haven't really made much comment either way so, who knows. Anybody experiencing Dead Rising problems (other than tiny text)?
Update 1: Wow. Judging from the incredible amount of comments, this topic deserves some more discussion. Check back this weekend for more.

I was playing 20 minutes ago when the game stopped and 3 rred rings flashed on my console. luckily it still works once i reset it, but i had only been playing for ten minutes, there is no way it was overheated. So i go online and read this and now i'm scared to play the game again in fear that i will be 360-less for months if I do.

I was playing the Dead Rising demo and my 360 froze. This was after playing a few hours with no problems. After that it froze right before the dashboard loaded and then the ring of death. Not sure if Dead Rising did it or my 360 was just messed. Getting a new one today.

It might even be that when a new good game comes out, people start to play their 360's more, and then they discover the underlying problem with their defective-ass first run video cards.
My refurb 360 is supposed to come home today.
It died when I was trying to stream music, not because I played some new game.

After playing Dead Rising for 10 or more hours, I have yet to experience a freeze, glitch, or something similar.
My 360 is from December.

I had thought it was coincidence - my 360 started freezing several months ago and Microsoft replaced it via warranty service. The replacement console has been working for 6 months or so and on Sunday, 3 days after buying Dead Rising, it started freezing again.
Microsoft is replacing my console -yet again-.
So, there may be something to this after all.

My 360 had a few annoying "Disc is unreadable" errors, and it froze once, and I got the 3 rings once. Thankfully, the 3 rings were because I hadn't plugged my power cord in all the way on the back of my Intercooler, so when I jiggled it, the power died, giving me the 3 rings. And then I played for about 4 hours straight last night, and nothing happened.
I give up trying to figure out what's up with this thing...all I know is that my 360 is sitting almost in the middle of the room, so it can ventilate. If it dies, I'm going to knock Microsoft's door down and make them give me a new 360. I shouldn't have to buy a service agreement for a console that can't make it past 4 or 5 months anyway.

I bought the game and it was crashtastic so I exchanged it for a new copy. The new copy is also crashtacular so I went and bought a memory card ( I read somewhere that this was a harddrive issue and running the game without the HD would fix the problem..... no dice. Now I am just trying to decide if I should send my 360 in the be fixed or just buy a new one. I would hate to drop another hundred or so on refurb junk when it is just ultimately flawed launch hardware. ( this is what I get for lining up at launch )

Mine was from December and started freezing 2 weeks ago. By the end of the week, I couldn't even turn it on without getting 3 red lights. I haggled 25% off the normal $129 replacement fee, but was unable to get any lower than that. Thiefs! Hopefully I'll get my new box before Madden comes out!

Dead Rising generates a LOT of heat. I can play for roughly an hour and the back of the console is scortching and if I don't have a fan on it, I eventually get disc read errors. I pop out the CD which is usually hot itself (suggesting the DVD-ROM is constantly spinning) and let it cool off for a minute.
The same thing happened with Oblivion so I chalk it up to the DVD-ROM spinning like crazy and that very well could losen anything not soldered properly. I think if anything these games point to a symptom of some root cause that possibly may get handled eventually but most of the time it doesn't become a serious issue.

For those of you with 360 issues, are they older systems? Like from 2005? I got mine in June (no media remote in the box), so I'm kind of hoping it's from a different batch. I dread the red ring. I saw it once but it was because the power in my apartment dropped out for a second.

I had my first system randomly start to freeze a few months back, and now all it will do is flash the 3 red lights... What I can't believe is how horrible the warranty is for defective hardware. If I didn't do anything to cause the failure of the system than I don't see why I should have to pay $129 for a new one! I love the system when it works, but Microsoft needs to step up and acknowledge that there are way too many units failing to warrant such a steep replacement price.

picked up my 360 two months ago and have had no problems with any of the XBLA games or PDZ... Dead Rising has frozen on me several times with either the "disc is unreadable" message, a black screen between loads or just a frozen screen in the middle of gameplay.
fortunately there's been no red rings and it just takes a restart to get going again... hard to tell if its an xbox problem or a manufacturing defect in the game disc, either way it's annoying.

The way I see it, three things are happenning here.
1. The first few runs of a console has problems. This is unavoidable. PS2 had them, Xbox had them, SNES had them, and so on and so forth.
2. A very loud minority of people are complaining about their 360 freezing/overheating/breaking over and over again, so it seems a lot of people are havin problems. the 20 or so 360 owners in my area that I know personally all have first or second-run 360s, and none of them has had a problem yet.
3. Games are very demanding these days, if there is even the slightest flaw in a console, it would cause problems. Again, see number 1.
4. 360 haters who have nothing better to do are spreading rumors on the internet to make the 360 seem like a crappy console.
I bought 2 360s at launch, one Premium and one Core, both have never overheated, the Premium froze once while playing Oblivion, and I've never even seen a single graphical glitch. Go figure.

I picked up a 360 a few weeks ago and have not had any problems (yet?).
I have played Perfect Dark Zero and Dead Rising with no issues.
I think the first round of 360's definitily had some issues.
Some of these games are great but what a piece of crap the hardware is.

I'm on Xbox 360 number 7 (for those who say i'm lying,I know exactly what i've gone through so I don't want to hear your crap) and this game hasnt done anything to my Xbox yet.
Dead or Alive 4 is the culprit that always freezes my guide and system.
