Dead demo Rises on XBLM [update 1]

Hordes of zombies prevented me from posting this earlier today, but here it is: a Dead Rising demo is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Weighing in at 1014 megs, it's the heaviest demo in recent memory, if not ever. Go get it and enjoy. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go help Ken board up the doors and windows inside Fanboy headquarters.

[Thanks to the hordes of not-zombies that sent this in.]

Update 1: Fixed my grievous gigabyte error. Geez.

1. HELL YEA i went home on my lunchbreak from work and start3d to download the game..and now to play..ive been waiting for this game.

now the 1st imperssions pros.
~killing zombies with anything in the level always a plus
~its pretty fun for the 15 min you get.
~start slaying instantly
~game is similar to the form of every zombie movie to come out in the 80's
~15 min oh damn why not 20
~human AI imho is stupid, could have been better, hell the living dead seem to have more intelligence than the living.

i hope evryone enjoys the demo, because you might not want to get the game depending on your haterid for "dawn of the dead"

2. I'm still not sure if this game is worth buying. It is just so repetitive. It's just the same zombies over and over and over (and killing them is no challenge whatsoever).

I mean sure, hitting golfballs at zombies or stuffing their head into a novelty hat and other things like that are great fun, but I can see it getting old after awhile.

Kind of happy the demo came out. I was thinking of buying it but this demo convinced me not to. I'll rent it instead.

3. "~game is similar to the form of every zombie movie to come out in the 80's" a con because......??????

4. Think of the game as your very own Dawn of the Dead playset. Sure, killing zombies might be repetitive, but that's because you haven't done it with thrown CDs yet. Or ran through the mall with nothing but a water gun. Or attempted to fight your way up the stairs using only the plastic lightsaber.

Posted at 2:20PM on Aug 4th 2006 by Mark Felps 0 stars

5. ... or taken a shopping cart and mowing down a whole horse of zombies.

... or take an electric guitar and try to make a rhythm out of the sounds the guitar makes as you kill zombies with it.

... or throwing benches off the upper-levels of the mall and try to hit 3 zombies at a time below.

... or taking large lego heads and putting them on unsuspecting zombies and then killing them while they walk around unable to see you.

The list goes on and on. I can't wait for this game!!

7. "~game is similar to the form of every zombie movie to come out in the 80's"

God, I know what you mean. I get so sick of playing those 80's movies too, the controls always suck. Oh... wait... wtf dude? isn't that a BONUS?

10. "How did Joystiq beat you to this"

For reasons that shall remain undisclosed, my posting ability has been severely hampered lately. Let's just say that Xbox 360 Fanboy isn't my *only* job...yet.

11. Well it was a damn fun demo, but I'm not entirely convinced that this game would be any good if played in more than 15 minute increments.

On the plus side: the developers were good to their word, and they did get hordes of zombies in screen. Absolutely awesome. Also, the zombies were a lot more aggressive than say… the trailer… which at the time had me thinking that the zombies just stand there. Also, I feel it needs to be stated again: HOLY CRAP YOU HAVE A LOT OF WEAPONS!!! From the fifteen minutes I played, I got to use skateboards, axes, toy light sabers, guns, cash registers, plants, signs, scythes, switchblades, dishes, bags of diamonds, books, shopping carts, giant teddy bears, batons, other zombies, meat, water guns, and that’s just what I can think of off the top of my head.

However… the problem is that I was hoping for a game with a slightly more in depth combat system. I was kinda afraid that this game would basically be a ‘3 hit-combo’ deal, and this demo supports it. Maybe I didn’t play enough times, or maybe the demo didn’t feature enough, but I was hoping to pull some more wild stunts. I wanted to bash a cash register onto the head of a zombie, and then kick it back. I wanted to pistol whip. I wanted to hit enemies on the ground, or send a zombie flying with the sledge hammer, instead of just pounding it.

Like I said, I could be wrong… but again, I’m not entirely convinced this game has enough in it to warrant a purchase.

12. I had the demo downloaded before going to work, but didn't get to play it.

I also don't think this game will be worth a purchase. Killing zombies might be fun for an hour, or even 3-4 hours. I just don't see it being that much fun for 10 or 20 hours.

I'm 99% sure this game will be worth a rental, but not much more.

13. Awww this sucks my xbox 360 just broke yesterday when i was playing prey.

14. if u think this isnt worth a buy u're insane.. this is by far the most entertaining thing i've played in a very long time... and really gives the aspect of zombie fighting :)

And this is without the many subplots and missions that the full game will have to keep it moving along... and the fact its pretty open eneded and the demo alone has 2-3 ways (so far) to actually complete it . the final game could have... well alot... i mean a demo with 2-3 ways to end full with CG and everything thats just awesome.

17. Wow I played this like...12 times in a row and I love this game. So far I think the good old guitar shop is the best place for weapons. Is it just me or were you all looking the gun store too?

18. aragorn please read previews before critising a game you get to level up your character to give you more moves and do better tricks on the scateboard etc
