(Page 1)2. I think that I keep waiting for Microsoft to actually DO SOMETHING with xbox live arcade. The potental is there for amazing things.
They could easily do things like make a deal with Sega for a Genesis Emulator and offer the entire genesis back catalog of games (or any companies that are up for it, and who wouldn't be? It's bascially free money) no development even required.
The same could be done with Mame emulation and the classics.
Games like Duke Nukem Manhattan Project would make the coolest ports ever to the Live service.
The Live service should have had a few hundred titles in the year it has been out, not the paltry 20-30 that it currently has.
I thought perhaps Microsoft is trying to make sure that all of the Live arcade games have been reworked with multi-player code. But... being able to play SOME games NOW is better than not being able to play a cool game that might or might not exist one day with multi-player code, isn't it?
I keep waiting for Microsoft to take the gaming world by storm with some amazing partnership or catalog of emulated titles.
I keep waiting for them to get the leg up (that they really need to get up) on the competition before the competition does catch up (yeah, you know Wii is going to have the entire back catalog of old titles available for download...) but month after month goes by, while the true potential for the 360 is squandered.
Big DVD based game titles come out only every so often. The whole point of the live arcade is to give you something to mess with between those large releases.
But as things stand now. Those tiny arcade titles come out LESS frequently than the big ones... what gives?

3. was it not planned that there was a arcade game for every week?

Unfortunate, but true. It may be retro gaming for all you youngsters out there, but it's mostly nostalgia for some like myself. Mostly.

5. Yay a star!
no really, pimping these games could be as easy as highlighting them on the front page at xbox.com... or at least putting them on the "upcoming games" seciton

6. "The Aracde Wednesdays"
Richard, just wanted to point out the typo.
Anyway, I agree with Teddy. Huge potential; no signs of it being taken advantage of. It would really be okay to let some info out on what is going on. They could do what Nintendo does and release just enough information on Arcade titles to keep us interested until a release is possible.
but alas...

7. Not for nothing, but there are games on the old Xbox Live Arcarde that aren't on 360. What's up with THAT? I know it sounds anarchonistic, but my wife has recently discovered the solitaire on the old Xbox, and has gone crazy playing it, even after saying every night, "Disconnect it so I can ship it to my friend." There are about 5 or 6 old Xbox Live Arcade titles that should be out. There's even one or two that were specifically sold as being in 720P HD. Come on, that one shouldn't require too much recoding, and just add in some achievements.

8. I'm guessing the reason why Small Arms hasn't gotten big press is because it's still in development. It's not going to be released for quite sometime.

9. Uh, what #7 said!
It's not like the game is coming out in less than a month.
And what's with developing stories from someone's comment about an article?

10. "And what's with developing stories from someone's comment about an article?"
Because he made a good point. Small Arms may be a ways off, but we've barely heard anything about the Arcade games coming out in the next month either(apart from SFII).
Meanwhile, we hear about other "normal" games -- Gears of War, for example -- months or even years in advance with trailers, interviews, features, etc. My point is that Live Arcade is a big part of Microsoft's strategy but we really don't hear much about it.
We develop stories from user tips (or comments in this case) all the time. That's one of the things that make blogs unique. If you're looking for nothing but corporate fed game journalism, Joystiq (and X360F) is not the place for you.

11. All you have to do is ask! ;)
Aren't *you* supposed to be the press after all?
