In case you haven't noticed, new Oblivion content is available on Marketplace. Here's the description according to Major Nelson:
"The lost Ayleid City Varsa Baalim has been unearthed by a rogue Telvanni arch-mage, in pursuit of a fearsome Daedric Artifact, Mehrunes Razor, which he believes will give him the power he needs to topple the Imperial reign - but what horrors lie in wait beneath the Valus mountains; and can you overcome them to claim Mehrune's Razor as your own?"
You can grab Mehrune's Razor for 250 points. Personally, I'm waiting for the next expansion: Kerrek's Aftershave.

While I'm all for great new content for an already great game, all of this Oblivion content coming out so soon seems like it should have been on the disk. The trend of games being released early, for full price, and then premium content released soon after has got to stop. I would much rather wait a few more weeks to get more out of my $60 than buy half of a game for the same price, only to pay $20 more for the content.

Well if everybody keeps on buying this crap then this trend will continue.
This "nickel and dime to death" process has to stop. Unfortunately once MS sees dollar signs it's game over.
I would gladly pay for an add-on disc (like Bloodmoon) then have to always buy these little add-ons (and I'm in Canada so we really get ripped off on those online points. $20 buys me a 1250 card).
btw Major Nelson saved my 360. On my first return (I've had 4) they kept my 360 for 6 weeks and wouldn't tell me when I would get it back.
After sending out a dozen e-mails I received an email from him. He took my service ID and 5 days later I had my 360 (again because I'm in Canada I've been told there is no compensation for my troubles)
Seems like MS hates us Canadians, but still loves to use us for their sales figures.
Sorry for the rant folks...
Final word - add ons that probably were in the game = bad
major nelson = good

the last comment just made me think of something- can anyone prove that these are truly add ons or can someone prove that they are simply unlocking something?

I think it unlocks stuff. I just downloaded this, and went through it. It was enourmes (sp)... What made me wonder is that the file was only around 800 kb. No matter what it is impossibly to make such a big place without having it fill up more.
Sorry for spelling mistakes.

I loved oblivion. But I am not buying anymore content. Unless it is a big expansion, it doesnt seem worth it. Just look how much you are spending for all these small pieces all together. Imagine how much a big expansion would be. This one by one thing will definately eat away your money. Just wait.

that file was just a level map using textures already involved on the disc...I think these add-on's are great. If you don't want it, you don't HAVE to buy it, but after running through the Mehrune's Razor level last night, I loved it! Also, some of the add-ons are class-specific. The thieves den under Anvil is definitely not suited for a mage....it's for thieves!
Anyways, I think this is a good thing. It's only like $2.50, and you get a good four hours of exploration, and even more if you go back in.

To everyone who says "Why don't they just give us an expansion pack instead of bite-sized downloads?" I offer you a bit of comfort.
First off, these updates are a way of prolonging company profit and game popularity. They release the game, and once they know people are pretty much done doing what they want to do, they release a premium download for a couple bucks. Really and truly, this is like slowly downloading a full expansion pack in smaller downloads.
Secondly, these downloads for Oblivion don't only give you dungeons to explore, they add spells and equipment like an expansion CD does. That means your $2.50 is going farther than you think.
Thirdly, these downloads don't add up in the way everyone thinks. If you were to download every single piece of content, then you would end up with the price of a full expansion pack bought at a store.
Fourthly, noting all above points, be glad that these downloads come one at a time. Which would you rather have: a $40 expansion disc filled halfway with content you'll never use, or the ability to choose exactly what extra content you get for a smaller cost?
Personally, I like the choice and the option for a lower cost.

Hey, if anyone out there has obtained the Razor, what are it's exact stats? I'm curious as to how strong this "ultimate weapon" is, but I don't have enough money to spend on the download right now.

"nickel and dime to death"
BLAH BLAH BLAH ... enuf already
OMG there are poeple with lives and familys who are emoployed to spend their time to keep adding content to this and other games. you aren't being cheated. this is the new economy and its apparently working for them. you cannot seriously be so jaded that spending a couple of bucks on something that might be fun is beyond your comprehension?
also, if you cannot afford these micro transactions then maybe you should keep that your little secret.
get over it. there is more to life then complaining about something cool costing real money.

So no one is allowed to have an opinion?
Grow up already yourself.
"also, if you cannot afford these micro transactions then maybe you should keep that your little secret"
I can afford them, but I choose not to participate in this new marketing scheme.
It's funny how your comments are so important and
everyone else is just a complainer.
Guess the planets revolve around you, some day you'll grow up though.

Let's see, either we could have a full expansion pack for another $40 (e.g. the two that Morrowind had), or we could buy little extra quests one at a time for a couple bucks each. Personally, I'm happy with the latter option, and have dumped my change on everything except for the evil horse armor pack.

The only real scam is episodic games. 1/2 the cost for 1/5 the play time.
At least with these premium downloads they're offering reasonable prices.

BTW, the Mehrunes Razor has Daedric Banishment on it, which essentially kills anything...I'll get the rest of the stats and put it up later.

I'm a little surprised that people did not see this coming. Xbox Live Marketplace was set up for just this reason; to sell you more stuff. MS has stated their intentions a long time ago; online play was only one aspect. Downloadable content is what these companies want to do, make money. As for myself, I have bought all of the Oblivion downloads except for the horse armor. And I'm glad I did. I just finished Mehrune's Razor this morning and I got the blade to use, although I have a hard time putting down Umbra, I went around the countryside whacking whomever I came across with the Razor. I'm not sure which I like better yet.

Just FYI – the Oblivion team confirmed that they are working on a ‘full’ expansion, in addition to the small add-ons.
I love the add-ons, and I think the people moaning about them are being somewhat naive. No one that brought Oblivion can honestly claim that they were ripped off – there is so much in the game…. Honestly – have most people actually found and completed all the standard quests?
I am more worried about the ‘Five maps for 500 points’ that Perfect Dark is trying to pull off. And they are planning on three or four packs. THAT’S a rip off.
Compare and contrast: Five multiplayer only maps for 500pts vs 2-4 hour adventure (with new equipment) for 250pts.
Honestly – the Oblivion team deserve the extra money – I’ve always thought it ironic that a game like Perfect Dark sells for the same amount as Oblivion when Oblivion obviously has so much more to it.
